As a very disheartened Rangers fan, Chris Drury needs to be removed from his position immediately. I’ve never seen a more lackluster, boneheaded job of managing and leading from anyone in a front office position ever. It started in the summer with the offloading of Barclay Goodrow, a solidified team leader, for nothing. All while running your captain through the mud with (way too public) trade talks. But, we got off to a hot start, great. Then, the team has a bad week of hockey (as every team will throughout the course of a season) and he sends out a memo with the message to the players being “Play well or I’m going to trade you.” And then he ships off our captain by essentially blackmailing him into waiving his trade clause and accepting a trade. In all his infinite wisdom, he thinks that decision is going to somehow not hurt or fracture the locker room. Now it feels like we’re a rebuilding team, because we have an incompetent leader at the helm. This team won the Presidents Trophy last year. Went to the Eastern Conference Final two out of the last three years. A bad week of hockey and the “change of direction” Chris Drury wants is to ship off, or at least threaten to ship off, all the guys who created our consistent success over the past four years. I can’t, with a good conscience, hold the players responsible for how they’ve been playing the past month. It’s got to be difficult to perform and do your job when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder to see if you’re getting traded or not. What an embarrassment of a GM he is. It’s at the point where I want to see guys get traded, just so they can get out of the most unhealthy organization in the league right now and get a fresh start. I’m happy Kaapo is going to have a chance to prove his skills elsewhere, because he deserves the opportunity. As for Will Borgen, he now has my undying support, but welcome to the shit show buddy.

Maybe because the Rangers haven't experienced a true rebuild. Laf and Kakko were the only top 3 overall picks the Rangers have had in nearly 60 years. That's because they are never that terrible where they would be eligible for a top pick. Their "rebuilds" have mostly consisted of trading for aging vets instead of building a team around top prospects. When Laf and Kakko came on the Rangers, the team already had a lot of star veterans. Teams that usually get first/second overall picks prioritize them, but the Rangers weren't a team of nobodies like most teams are when they get a top pick. A lot of it is bad luck as well.

There’s a reason(s) why the New York Rangers are renowned for: 1. They fire GMs, coaches rather impulsively. As a result, they can’t develop players. 2. They know they have to overpay free agents, then tell them they make too much money, “Good bye.” The Song of Kaapo Kakko is a sad one because the Rangers expected him to become Matthew Tkachuk when his skill set was never made for physical play. Chytil was always injured and could never find that consistency. Nevermind he’s had 3 different head coaches over his career who had him play their way. Kakko was right to call out the vets who NEVER set him up but always expected him to do their bitchwork. I get it, he wasn’t the players the Rangers expected but there’s this lingering tradition of young players wanting out: Lias Andersson, V. Kravstov, Lunquvist (the other one), and Kakko. You can argue, “Well these guys were busts..” and that’s true to a degree. The other side of the coin is, the Rangers can’t draft because they were given gifts by the hockey gods. To be a Rangers fan is one of suffering.

Wow, I am going to miss Sam, the only voice of the Rangers I've ever known.

Maybe NY will trade Sam Rosen too for a new low....

Listening to him schpit out Shesterkin and Zibanijed is revolting. Rangers are unwatchable.

I am a NJ fan and Sam is an absolute legend. Then again, Sam has seen his fair share of Ranger dumpster fires in his career.

The Rangers failed Kakko, unfortunate to see it didn’t work out, but I wish him the best of luck in Seattle

Couple of my hockey friends were joking that the Kraken acquired another young cast off. Well, howd that work out with Tolvaanen? I feel good for once, Im not used to that as a Seattle sports fan. Besides, they got something for Borgen somehow, he wasnt even really playing he was getting out-iced by Mahura.

Remember all those folks who said Kakko was a better pick than Hughes? Because I certainly remember it very well.
@NJDFAN765 күн бұрын
Yeah I remember all the dopey comments and criticisms about Jack Hughes but after this they couldn’t find a bigger rock to hide under 😂
@TheSnapback5 күн бұрын
@@NJDFAN76 Hindsight is 20/20, and Kakko was looking better than Hughes at the time. Hughes was pretty bad in his rookie season. The thing is that Hughes was able to get a lot of ice time and proper development unlike Kakko, and that's because the Devils were an actual rebuilding team with a bunch of nobodies. Kakko came on a team with a bunch of star veterans like Kreider, Zibanejad, Buch, and Panarin that were clearly going to be prioritized. Plus, Kakko played in Finland while Hughes played in the US. Kakko was likely not able to perform out of his comfort zone, thrived with bigger ice. Either way Rangers fans had merit to how much they were hyping Kakko over Hughes, it's not that they were "dopey comments and criticisms"

not sure swapping players is gonna fix what's wrong in new york. sometimes the rubber band snaps when you're wound too tight

I like the trade, but a little nervous for Seattle since they really don’t have any defensive depth.
@Mechanicsville8045 күн бұрын
Maybe they trade for Trouba 😁
@Piper_____5 күн бұрын
Yeah. When Seattle’s defense is working, it works super well, but as soon as Dunn is out of the lineup… They need to either get much more consistent scoring or much deeper defense.

Can we trade James Dolan and Chris Drury to the moon for a bag of moon pucks? Congrats to Kaapo Kakko for getting a way from a club that tries desperately to turn its prospects into busts. I hope he finds his game on a team that will treat him right, because I think he’s way underrated and he deserves better than what he’s gotten from my team.
@DuaneMootoo-i2s5 күн бұрын
I am a Rangers fan and this was a MISTAKE... Kako is not living up to #2 overall.. YES.. but when you play the kid on the 3rd line he never will... he is a180 foot player most nights and is a guy who made one of the most consistent Rangers lines with Cuylle and Chytl he played better than most thought if you watched his game and he will do better in Seattle but the Rangers are falling apart and I start as much with Drury putting the players in bad situations as the players playing crap.. and they are..
@GizmoBeach5 күн бұрын
Either NY didn’t develop this kid the way they should’ve or he was drafted much higher than he should’ve been. The Rangers are a mess this year, but you’d think they’d better utilize a player like Kakko to improve their fortunes. Instead they deal him in an underwhelming trade to a team on nobody’s radar.
@bozo86034 күн бұрын
I like this trade for Seattle. If they're going to break out of the middle of the standings, they'll need to find impact players, preferably young, without the help of top-five picks. Kakko might not work out, but for the cost they're paying here, he's more than worth a shot. if he turns into even a 50-point guy in Seattle, having gotten him for a 3rd, a 6th, and Borgen will look great in retrospect. And of course there's the dream that he turns into something more than a 50-point guy. And even if it doesn't work out, I doubt they'll dearly miss the assets they gave up. Good trade.

You know Kakko is gonna go light it up for the Kraken now 🤣 the Rangers are a dumpster fire!
@rickfeld79955 күн бұрын
As a NYR rooter, i think it was a mistake. You don't give up on a talented 23 year old for this return. Drury is petty & disliked by the players.
@djentleman75 күн бұрын
I could honestly see the team flat out give up on him if they haven't already and just lose most games from here out. I doubt anyone on that roster wants to play for Drury
@HexagonalMan65 күн бұрын
As bad as this trade is (or good if you're a Kraken fan like me), I'm not sure that NYR was going to find a significantly better offer; what defensemen at that cap hit are on the trade block right now other than Borgen?

I am a kraken fan. I think it is a good trade, seattle needs some goal scoring on a more consistent basis.
@brianvanwyk94255 күн бұрын
He was also a +13 on s pretty awful team. And he did those 14 points only playing 13 minutes a night in a defensive role. If Seattle tries to get offense out of him I am certain they will. The winner of this trade is not Seattle, it’s KK.

I think Seattle comes out ahead here. Borgen is 28 6'3" 204 and was playing just over 15 minutes a night. he played 82 games as a third pair defender on what was a very tight Seattle defense the last two years. The Kraken are doing that scoring by committee thing so there a lot of slightly talented guys all through the line-up. Kakko could feed into that.
@thecaffeinequeen5 күн бұрын
NYR and Preds fistbumping on trading their Finns to the Kraken, and (probably) regretting it later. We'll miss Belligerent Bill's personality (And Beniers will miss his roommate), but we're welcoming Kakko to a new chapter! Him and Tolvanen will probably be fast friends.

If I remember correctly Tolvanen wasn't even traded but picked from waivers 😅
