Possibly can work as a summer league. Skilled players from lower leagues, undrafted players, foreign players, UFAs etc. getting together to show off their skills. Would still be a nightmare in terms of insurance and travel and such. But as an alternative to the NHL? Nope. Not without a serious crisis hitting the league.

The biggest red flag is Max Chambers. In 2011, Checketts was still the majority owner, who really just liked using the franchise as a tax write off and looking cool to his rich friends, from what I can tell. The figure that was being thrown around as an offer from the Max Chambers side was significantly higher than what the current ownership paid. That tells me that either the NHL said no or Checketts’ lawyers felt that the $ was not there.

The concession stand is just one dude's mom boiling hot dogs. Intermission will just be the two coaches yelling at each other, not to look at each other's whiteboards as they stand shoulder to shoulder in the hallway " we're going to forecheck harder guys next period, come on Jeff, look at your own whiteboard" Jeff replies " I can't Todd, Mark keeps leaning against it and erasing my offense"

I checked out the website, and it's so ridiculously amateur. They obviously just threw together something on Wix with some "flashy" graphics, but no substance whatsoever. Some funny parts include: -the map of the different territories, followed by a scrolling list, in no discernable order, of each individual state/province with their map (no cities or arenas, just... "California," "Florida," "Ontario"...) -the "New England" section shows only Massachusetts and New Hampshire (you forgot like four states there, guys...) -the merchandise section, which literally just says "merchandise available soon." They also have pictures of, like, merch concept art, and apparently they're gonna sell MLH Wine?!

They were just trying to get ahead of my planned League Association of Professional Hockey (LAPH). 1. This will be 2 on 2 hockey. 2. In order to increase scoring, the nets will not be regulation hockey nets. They will be soccer nets. 3. Scoring cannot be taken within the other team's zone. Shots must be taken from outside their blue line. 4. There will be two 12-minute periods with an intermission in between. 5. In the first period, there will be only female players. 6. In the second period, there will be only male players. 7. Each period will have an intermission half way through, so there will be 3 intermissions altogether. This is to maximize concession revenue. 8. Concessions may sell snacks, burgers, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. 9. Players may not consume the alcoholic beverages... except during intermissions. 10. We have 10.00 in the bank to kick this off. Any donations will be cheerfully accepted. 11. Any donation of 1 million dollars or more will receive a free alcoholic beverage whenever they attend a game. 12. If you are not old enough to consume the free alcoholic beverage, you must be accompanied by an adult who will consume the alcoholic beverage.

Rival League Consideration .... the WHL (1944-1974) and AHL started integrating matches into their schedules in the mid-1960s and were considering merging. This prompted the NHL into the "Coast-to-Coast" 1967 expansion and pursuing national television markets. I watched an interesting series on Jim Bartlett and found that out. Bartlett was an NHL & AHL player in the 1950s to early 1970s.

Saudi sports washing is real but thankfully I don’t think they’re interested in the NHL or hockey. Not sure there are many, if any, rinks in the Middle East and it’s a sport I would think is somewhat obscure to Saudi’s and those in the region. I always saw the IHL as a competitor to the AHL, not as a competitor to the NHL. On Major League Hockey, I don't see this as remotely serious. Starting at 16 teams, 3v3 hockey for 24 minutes, only on weekends, and one can just fire off an email to become a possible team executive? There's a line from BoJack Horseman that always resonated with me. "When you're wearing rose-tinted glasses, all the red flags just look like flags". And right now, I see a lot of those people who love hockey but are turned off by the NHL as wearing those rose-tinted glasses, just looking for something new... and here's this new thing. You see the red flags. I see the red flags. But not everyone does, and despite how informative and well thought out this video is, some folks seeing it still won't. I won't say this is a scam, but it's definitely problematic.

The IHL tried to sorta compete with the NHL by putting teams in big markets including Detroit and Chicago. It wanted to have it both ways. I got a pretty unprofessional email back with no subject or signature saying they are only looking for executive level positions with “significant NHL or AHL experience” and “to be honest, already have that well filled out for 16 markets”. They said they’re going to start considering entry level positions in September. So they’re going to onboard all of their entry level positions with just about a month until the start of the season?? No way

The tickets are pretty reasonable, and there are a whole lot of teams in D1. Just in Michigan (my state) alone I can count 8 teams.... really hope I didn't miss any... that range from Big Ten schools UM and MSU to small schools (Ferris, Lake State, NMU, and MTU) who offer D1 programs. Also, you'd have to opportunity to see many different programs from across the country and exhibition games from Canadian universities too. On top of all that, the atmosphere of a college hockey game is unmatched.
