When I was in high school, Marty's brother Joey Turco was one of my teachers. He was fantastic. 🙂

One of my favorite goalies growing up. A true Michigan legend, winning two national titles there. Probably is one of the all-time greats to ever play college hockey. Nice video Shannon!

I have always been a wings fan, but watching Turco as a kid at U of M and then in Kalamazoo a couple years, you couldn't help but root for him and the stars. Really fun to watch.

I have to say this first, HE CHANGED THE PUCKHANDLING GAME, AND IS A LEGEND FOR SUCH. A remarkable person to watch play, and you gotta know I was analyzing that skill every time he touched the puck. Because of him I welted up my garage door all over, and earned the anger of my father lol. As a young dude living in the Detroit area, it was hard to miss the big college goalies in the area. Guys like this are huge inspirations to young kids in the area as everyone knows. Between him, Miller, Steve Shields, etc back when, you had these great young role models to look up to.

SUPER underrated. People dont talk about him enough. He was one of those guys that was so talented, both in making reflex saves but also playing the puck that when he was on his game there wasnt really anyone better.

Grew up with him in the Soo. He took my goalie spot on my hockey team. He was my elementary school friend and classmate. An amazing human and competitive person. He was small as a player when he was young. No one in the ohl would take him in the draft. He had great grades as he was always very studious. He had a growth before going to university and was amazing in Michigan. Since his retirement he is a great ambassador for hockey in Dallas and a helper in his hometown the Soo. Thanks for highlighting his career. That Vancouver vs Dallas series was an amazing battle between two great goalies.

As a lifelong Stars watcher, it always seemed like Dallas took stellar goalies like Turco, Bishop, and Khudobin and wasted their careers by never providing anything above sub-par with their offense to support their efforts between the pipes

67 GAMES in a season was too much. Probably too tired to have a good playoff run and have the adrenaline at the top like oettinger did this year. He was a good puck handler behind the net with good transition passes and zone clearance on the pk. He had one of the most impressive shoot in the league to clear the puck out. nice vids

Late on this video but...Eddie Belfour was my favorite player as a kid, when he got traded to Dallas I became a Dallas Stars fan as kids will do, and when he retired I became a Marty Turco fan lol. So for me it's really cool that you did a Marty Turco career video, wasn't expecting it.

A great goalie and great personality. I remember during that series against Vancouver where he posted 3 shut outs and somehow still lost, a game went to overtime and the puck rolled behind his net. Even though one of the Canucks was right there, he decided to leave the net and engaged in a puck battle for a few seconds.

I'll be honest I was (and still am actually) a critic of Turco's. That 2006 Stars team was pretty offensively gifted and score about 3goals / game in the playoffs; yet Turco choked. Yes he did well vs Vancouver in 07, but Vancouver had trouble scoring all playoffs (see their Anaheim series in round 2). 08 was his best yet he ran into his psychological barrier of Joe Louis Arena (no wins, many losses over his career). 03 vs the Ducks and 04, he was very ordinary.

I'm actually surprised his career wasn't that long. Goalies and D men usually take longer to develop, but if it was just a matter of playing behind established NHL goalies in Dallas, I'm surprised Turco didn't ask for a trade to a team that had a spot for him to play in the late 90s. If you're 5 years out from your draft year, even if you're a goalie, you'd better be an established NHL player or you're probably a career minor leaguer.
