Even with Monahan's last two year decline due to injuries I think he should be much higher on this re-draft. Also not sure about Mantha, Nurse and Jones being that high up. Regardless, it's always entertaining to see these, keep it up.

Guentzel is way too low, I’d have him at 4 or 5. I think Monahan had some really good years as well even if he is washed up (from injuries) now, probably should be higher. Also Saros should be higher

I'm biased, but I'd personally argue he should be 3rd. There's a huge drop after the top 3 in points/game in this draft class, with Jake Guentzel being up there with the top 2. He has scored goals at nearly the same rate as _MacKinnon_ since he came into the league. There are 4 40 goal seasons from this draft class, and Guentzel has 2 of them. He also, like MacKinnon, elevates his game for the playoffs. He had a ridiculous 1.75 p/gp (best in his draft class) in 2018, 13 goals in 2017 (tying MacKinnon last year for best) and is at exactly 1 p/gp (2nd to only MacKinnon) for his career in the playoffs. I get that offense isn't everything, but Guentzel isn't a bad defender either. He's trusted enough to match top lines and never get sheltered. He's good enough that his defense shouldn't drag him down. He's also definitely not a product of Crosby, his production didn't slow down even when _Evan Rodriguez_ was his center early on last year.

Thank you all for this. Like the Jets, Shannon has a "blind spot," in his words, for Bo Horvat. He has ... a "sight patch," I guess, regarding Guentzel especially. He hinted at it here and has stated in the recent past that Guentzel is not a star apart from Crosby and Malkin--even with the aforementioned time carrying the load while they were out and the resulting boost to Rodrigues, who weirdly hasn't been signed, gee! By no means do I expect perfection or that anyone will agree on everything, but what will it take regarding Guentzel?

So glad the Avs took MacKinnon. There was a lot of talk locally that they might have gone with Seth Jones. Part of that was that Seth's Dad Popeye Jones played for the Nuggets, so Seth Jones lived in Denver in his youth.

@@thomasibach234 Nurse is actually incredibly underrated simply bc he’s one of the only top d men that doesn’t start in the o zone most of the time which means his point totals don’t match other “top” d men (which is only bc the Oilers have a deep blue line w two more offensively gifted d men). Despite being put in difficult situations against the top players from around the league more often than other “top” d men, Nurse’s underlying numbers remain very solid. Guentzel is a top 6 winger who’s had the privilege of playing on a line with Crosby for his entire career. That isn’t a knock on him, he’s a very good player but he isn’t the cornerstone of the pens offence whereas Nurse is the defensive cornerstone of a WCF Oilers team.

Lehkonen was a joy to watch on the playoffs. Great decision making abd commitment the the system at both ends of the ice. You can see that the organization was impressed with him and Nichushkin and rewarded them both.

As they should be. The league is fast, and Colorado is the pinnacle of that. Lehkonen brought incredibly important depth for a team that lost out in 2021 explicitly due to their lack of depth and Nickachu is one of the best two-way forwards in the league.

I understand why Shannon would not want Dallas to take Nichushkin again. But, it appears that the Avs selected Nichushkin over Burakovsky in 2022 free agency. The Avs gave Nichushkin a huge contract while letting Burakovsky walk.

Different players and different needs. Burky is very streaky. He was healthy scratched during the playoffs at points. Lekhonen was also brought in as insurance against the loses of Burakovsky and Kadri (not entirely each, but he will take Kadri's PP spot and Burakovsky's 2nd line spot).

Even when he's not scoring as many points as Burky, Nichushkin is just much more consistent and generates a lot more dangerous scoring chances imo. I remember when the Avs first got him and for the first 20-30 or so games, he wouldn't score any goals, but he'd have so many good breakaway opportunities.

Players I would take earlier: Guentzel at 5, Saros at 4, I'd probably take Pulock a few spots earlier but not sure where now. Monahan, not sure but I'd probably take him before Mantha and Morrissey based on his career so far. Maybe before Burakovsky and wherever Pulock ends up. Hard to argue with the rest imo.

It's crazy how many of these players are/were on the Avs in the past two seasons. MacKinnon, Val, Artturi, and Burky all part of the cup and Ryan Graves was on the team recently.

If I remember correctly leading up to the 2013 draft Barkov was ranked 6th at best 18th at worst. So it was a surprise that he went 2nd over Seth Jones & Drouin. When asked why Barkov Dale Tallon said he made a strong impression in the interview.

Why do people keep saying Risto had a bad year last year? He and Sanheim were our only good defensemen last year. Hell those 2 along with Atkinson were the only players that didn't give up last year. I think the man is a beast and plays Flyer hockey in a way no one has since Pronger retired

No issues from me about this redraft for the most part. As a Flames fan and a Bo Horvat fan I’d definitely take him over Nurse, but that just my preference on that pick. Hope for all the best with Monahan though in Montreal and going forward with his career. Solid, really good player when healthy and hopefully he can get back to being healthy again and have a good comeback with the Canadiens this year.

As a Sabres fan who has watched every game of Ristolainen's career I would bet my house he doesn't fall to #22 on a redraft if it were possible for it ever to occur. There's just no way. He's a very solid NHL defenseman. He was the #1 for the Sabres on historically bad teams. I don't know where he would go, but I find it very hard to believe NHL general managers would let him slip much from 8. He's huge, has some offensive side to his game and is not afraid to mix it up. I'm not his biggest fan, and many Sabres fans disliked him. However, the kid can play as a top 4 defenseman on probably any team in the league. How is that dropping past pick 10 or so? I don't see it. He might be one of the unluckiest guys in the league being on last place teams his entire career. Who would have thought Philly might be worse than Buffalo? Ouch.

He can bounce back, but he's never going to be a great top 6 center again. Double hip surgeries are going to ensure that he'll never skate well enough to be top 6 consistently.

I think that's too low for Monahan. Until he got injured, he was 1st in goals for the draft class. As it stands now, he is 3rd in goals and 3rd in points. I would bet that there won't be 23 players who finish their careers with as many goals or points. Tough one to weigh out here considering that points aren't everything. However, being the 3rd best goal scorer and likely not dropping to 23rd even if he retires today, I think that's too big of a reaction to his injury. Nurse is too high on this list I think as well - not sure he moves up a spot, as I do think there have been players pushing from below that are probably more valuable. Ristolainen going to the Flames is interesting, as the Flames' analytics guys have Ristolainen has the label "Do not acquire" by them - means nothing with regards to this redraft, but it is funny that he ends up in Calgary. Interesting takeaways here though. This draft year may have just as much movement in a future redraft in another 5 or 10 years.

Not bad list but idk why Pesce is so high. He’s a good defenseman but he hasn’t been nearly as elite as players like Guentzel and Saros, and I would definitely take him probably past 20th. I feel like the other players are these great forwards and defenseman that have had really amazing seasons whereas pesce is just a good defenseman. But I never looked at the advanced stats so I could be wrong.

I can’t see Barkov kicking the dressing room door in and rallying the troops like Nate does. Frankly, I would be ecstatic to have either but that’s just how I’d do it.

Only one I think is too high is Ristolainen. Barring his bad year in Philly, yes he's tough, but weren't his advanced stats trash when he was in Buffalo too? I would at least take Monahan over him personally. I would move Copp up, but maybe I'm one of those mentioned who overrates him. I did like his game when he was in Winnipeg too though.
