When I used to commute into London, I remember the Waterloo to Penzance service always being pulled by Class 50's. Always a good-sounding and pretty attractive locomotive (mid-1980's)

Thank you for another wonderful video. I moved to North Devon in June 1990 and have lots of very happy memories of catching the train at Exeter St Davids.

Two things about the videos at Exeter. First, the rake of four coaches in the yard (two NSE, two BR blue/grey) are the DMU replacement set, suggesting there was actually a full compliment of DMUs out that day. Second, the first carriage of that 14.22 service is Mk2d FK 13575, the only Mk2d that NSE had, and it was later painted in NSE livery.

The unidentified class 47 on the parcels is 47513 "Severn"

@@thehogfat I hit the wrong key, it's 47513 not 47503. The loco is identifiable in that it had large logo blue livery, but small logo blue numbers!

I lived in Dartmouth for 10 years 1993-2003 and never once, not once, did I go to Dawlish and stand and watch the trains go by. Duh 🙄 we did however have the lovely steam Engines going up the Dart so I didn’t completely miss out I guess!

Every summer holiday as a kid, we would go to Exeter, soo many lunchtimes in my life, sat at St Davids with an Ivor Dewdneys pasty and a soundtrack of Hoovers and that display board at the level crossing that would ring with 6u or 3d etc to say which platform was going to receive or dispatch next

Enjoyed the footage thanks. Just one question I've often wondered . Network southeast ? In Devon? . Isn't Devon in the southwest. .

Nse services worked from Waterloo to Exeter with the odd service to Plymouth, the 50s were all based at Plymouth Laira

How do you copy over your Hi8 Martin ? I’ve done all mine through additional software and converts them to 1080-50P with no shiver at all.

Hi HST had a coolant problem late 1980s early 1990s, the South Devon Bank was a notorious failure point and many a class 50 came to rescue a failed HST R

Yes and you had to special authority to run with 1 power car working over the Devon Banks which the engineers had to authorise
@12crepello2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the HST power cars carried a special drawbar which had to be attached to the front by first raising the lower skirt. The bar then attached to the standard coupling of the rescue loco. Under the front skirt of the power car was also the hidden brake pipe connections for attachment to the rescue loco. It was very rarely used during the latter days of the HST's.

The photobombing 155 at Dawlish got out of the way just in time. A fine display of cretinhood in the first two coaches 😑
