Without the stop pin there will be no way to charge the blade. Although there may be a way to turn the knife into a ballistic knife; I am certain it is highly illegal. Probably as illegal as converting a Glock into a full auto pistol.
@Yumaironwood12 жыл бұрын
I just emailed you back. My spring is at least two inches longer and the top cup has a steel insert with a rounded end to help keep the spring tracking correctly. Are all black Halo's possessed?!?! Haha!! Next time I take mine apart I'll email you a pic of the insert. It makes it so you can't use a hanger. You have to put a cup flat on a table and compress spring by hand. Still my favorite knife despite it being a Chinese finger removing device!

This actually seems easier to take apart and put together again than a Griptilian or Endura.
@TheHollowGrind12 жыл бұрын
Previous models have that guide rod in the spring and no holes in the end caps. You CANNOT compress these new springs by hand as you can see at the end of the video. The previous models have weaker springs and CAN be compressed by hand by placing the guide rod in the spring and in an end cap; then compress it until the top cap is placed over the guide rod. You can than insert that piece while the blade is locked closed.

The warranty is voided if the knife is taken apart. Microtech or your dealer may still be able to help with a problem even if the knife was taken apart under certain circumstances. There may be a repair charge for out of warranty knives.

Damn, seeing these from the inside really makes you wonder where the $600+ pricetag comes from. Seems like it justifies getting a clone if anything
@TheHollowGrind8 жыл бұрын
True these knives are simple; but they still had to be designed, developed, refined, and manufactured and all that was done in the USA. All that costs a lot of money when you don't hire children at 25 cents a day to operate heavy machinery. To those who want to support American companies while obtaining a quality product with quality materials with quality control then the price is more than justified. The "clones" out there stole the design and use inferior parts that may or may not break. As a toy, the clones will work but as a tool they just won't do.
@Graciashauf7 жыл бұрын
Aha dude I got the knock off for 50 bucks. Had to take it apart to fix it. The 600 is way too much but material is better. My knock off started getting a lip in the aluminum where one of the stop pins slams against on opening. The lip starting dragging on the knife. Took it apart, and dremeled the lip off. Reassembled and it's all gucci now. Sweet knife to abuse since it wasn't 600 bucks 😂
@Biblicalgiants6 жыл бұрын
TheHollowGrind Yes. Good point. But in the otf world the more simple the better though. Less parts to worry about breaking down.
@puddintame63106 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention buying proprietary fasteners. That in itself is incredibly expensive, and utterly extraneous to function. "Designing?" This thing is less complicated than a toaster. Dafuq you think goes into designing something like this? It's massively marked up. A MT Halo should cost about $120.
@CDA436 жыл бұрын
Elmax steel for one. Warranty for two. Materials used. Design that went into it. Made in America. Easy to replace. The $600 price tag is justified. It's kind of like saying "Damn that ferrari is too pricey, makes more sense to get a ferrari body kit for my hyundai"

So since it's spring operated and springs wear out the more it's used, how many times can one uses this before the spring is completely done?
@bullridermusic20543 жыл бұрын
You would be surprised. I read somewhere that when springs are formed and manufactured and heat treated properly, they can last for a very long time without losing their spring power. I don't really know why it is, but there's some information online if you're interested, obviously. But eventually yes they will wear out, but it will be a very long time.
@yuri77657 жыл бұрын
You can also open them inside a clear plastic bag so parts don’t shoot out and disappear.
@michjj94286 жыл бұрын
The issue is with my halo v is that it is newer so it had a metal pin and the end caps so I cant use this method. Im trying to figure out how I can compress the spring to be able to put the other aluminum handle on without it shooting everywhere any ideas?
@purpledc110 жыл бұрын
Something I would suggest doing is taking a long piece of heat shrink tubing and covering the piece of coat hanger with it and using heat to shrink it on. The reason is the hanger can scratch parts of the handle if you pull it out too quick. The rubber heat shrink tubing wont do this nor will is flake off into the knife.
@TheHollowGrind10 жыл бұрын
It may not slide out easily if you do that. If you do this slowly you won't scratch the parts (at least it didn't for me). The heat shrink tubing is plastic and as you pull the wire out you may find the plastic catch on the edges. A hard plastic rod would likely be ideal.

Grayfizzle McMaster Carr, assuming you live in North America. You'll have to measure all the attributes of the spring (force rating, wire thickness, overall length, number of coils) but they have a large enough catalogue that you're bound to find it eventually. If you do, post the part # since others might need it too and it would save them some time.

Just saying the reason for the price is the superior materials. Simplicity does not mean cheap. A lot went in this knife and the biggest difference between this and a knockoff is the fact that the official ones can be used as a spike and hammer into something and still work perfectly whereas knockoffs have their locks fail very easily.
