Plus I just think it's unnecessary awarding people for wins for matches they didn't actually win even if someone plugged and they were about to win. If they actually punish people who disconnect, then these cases will be rarer and shouldn't be as frustrating. There are cons for this too like it can be exploited like the opponent use a tool that force disconnects you and gets free wins and free points, make themselves very laggy until you gave up and disconnects yourself or even ddos attack. Every solution are not perfect of course.

I like the way that Street Fighter 6 does it. If you quit out too much they give you a "yellow card" and you're only matched up with other quitters. After a while of "good behavior" the yellow goes away. But if you keep quitting you get a red card and that basically puts the player in fighting game hell with only like one bar connections and quitters exclusively and I'm not sure if you can get out of that.

In other games like paladins etc if you get disconnected the computer takes over your character until you return it would be similar to this. This literally solves all potential issues and would probably discourage rage quitters from quitting since they will lose the points anyway. This way you can keep your win streak too.

I noticed this pattern a lot with rush down playstyles, like a Victor or Hworang that overwhelms you, if you get a read after the first round and have a comeback there's a 90% chance they'll quit, just because they can't rush you down anymore.

Yeah... people who flowchart and dont wanna improve but just win tend to rage quit a lot, i always play overly defensive because it lets you get knoledge pf your enemy's patterns, you may lose one round but if they are flowcharting then the match is as food as yours, so i had a lot of encounters with rage quitters in all fighting games i played, feels really good knowing you know yoir foe better than themselves after you lpw parried him 4 times on a round and armoured through almost all his mids

back in tekken 7 i did a disconnect test! i disconnected ALOT, like over 50% but got bored of it, then later when an update happend, i lost 2 full ranks and my disconnect rate got back to 0% THATS IT! But i do hope tekken 8 does the punishment like street fighter V! that was like quiting a match 3 times and u get a 24 hours ban!

A feature I remember really enjoying in Strive was if you're sitting in queue while also in practice mode, there was a setting where after a match, it would basically transfer whatever the stage and opponent you just fought and put them into your practice mode while you wait in queue. It was a great way to learn characters. Just got messed up by that one Zafina move you've never seen? Now you can lab it after the match right away while you wait for another game. You can always just use quick select to do it too, but that feature was still a nice quality of life thing.

There's no need to make it this complicated. Just implement a Red Card system like in SF6. Get enough disconnections in a ratio of matches regardless of the reason, and you will get a Yellow and Red card which will match you vs over Red cards, not with the general population. Pluggers will plug vs each others only. After certain amount of matches based on your completed match ratio, you will get back to the general population. There should also be time-outs of the online features for the pluggers ala SFV.

I think T8 should implement an honor/endorsement system thats reflected on your player profile with an overall Honor rating. Lower endorsement scores should place you in low endorsement queue. And if the game picks up on a plug happening it should like ask you if you want to give the opponenet a dishonorable award, if it seemed like a genuine disconnection error or they plugged

I play a platform fighter called Brawlhalla and I think the way they handle this scenario is best. When someone leaves: 1) their character gets taken over by a bot, which leaves them some time to rejoin and gives the opponent something to do in the meantime 2) they get a prompt to rejoin in the menu That way you still have a chance to come back. In the worst case scenario you just lose, but if the bot wins: the win actually goes to you. It’d be a far stretch to imagine they’d do something like this (maybe your ghost replaces you or smth), but one can only hope they’ll do something at least

Honestly it should just count as a loss for the plugger every time, and give their opponent the win. Each time, not the three strike rule. There shouldn't really be a heavier punishment for disconnections like that, though, since it's very quick to get into games, they're low time investment, and - being a fighting game - it's just very easy for people to get worked up and simply altf4 out of the game.

I kinda like what Namco is doing tho. I don’t think they’ve actually activated disconnection rate counting yet cause they’re ensuring the game doesn’t crash or disconnect no matter how shit network gets. I had power on my router completely go out for a second and the rollback just handled it without disconnecting. I’m pretty sure they’ll implement a penalty system soon.

I noticed it starts up in the orange ranks and gets really annoying and red!! Lol for anybody that is unaware it is if you are in the red rank you already made it to the top 1% stop quitting. You’re most likely on the leaderboard at this point, that would put you in the top 10,000 or very close to it. I’m going to make this as simple as possible if 1,000,000 copies of Tekken was sold (which is definitely more) what is 1% of 1 million the answer is 10,000. So you made it to the 1% stop leaving!!!! It’s very annoying happened to me 5 times today out of 8 matches I played.

Especially when i play with shaheen the most difficult character in terms of combos execution, a lot of gamers ragequit. Every time i’m playing , there’s 10 people who ragequit. That’s absurd and the worst part like you said , you don’t get rewarded and get stuck on the same rank. I’m losing focus every-time , you need to be focused while playing shaheen cause he got nerfed a lot and it’s not easy. Pluggers are a type of person who you would ask "Hey, stop plugging, it ruins the game for other people" and they would just say "F other people, I care about my fun". You want to stop this kind of behavior you have to punish it. Look at other comp games with heavy penalties for quitters, you see far less quitters far less often, and the cases of innocents disconnecting only really happens rarely that a small leway is enough to protect them (3 strikes is reasonable, but honestly I think after the first DC of the day you should start getting penalties which ramp up the more you do it)

I had a day that 5 people in a row rage quitted on me and I got so frustrated that this problem still persists in Tekken 8 I just called quits for the day, And like you I would have been promoted if it weren't an issue anymore. Imo if someone quits for whatever reason the other person should get the points and the quitter should lose them, if you have problems with unstable internet, game is crashing for whatever reason it should be on you, no matter what, fix the problems and get back in. I really hate to see people who I know is quitting getting promoted because they option select the games without any consequences. And no, getting a quitting % is not a real punishment either.

Adding watch replay into the ranked system that you are talking about is extremely difficult! I know as I am a programmer, and I can tell how difficult it was for the devs to construct this game. They have compartmentalized most of the features of the game, to make sure that they can debug things easier. I still think that the programming of the game could have been better, as I have experienced the game eating my inputs very regularly.

Street fighter 6 has it. If you plug, i tested this myself, you loose the points. If someone plugs on you, you do not get the points tho. Seems stupid at first, but its to prevent boosting, so its understandable and smart. I just want to get these pluggers punished. Potentially they could code to distinguish an abrupt unplugging to a server issue disconnect that could be flagged if certain criteria was met right before the disconnection...versus perfect server performance but a hard disconnect occurs

Sf 6 has a nice way to handle this in which if a person leaves the game tells you explicitly and gives you the chance to block then. On their end of they do it too often they get a yellow card and can only get matched with other yellow cards. If they keep doing it they get a red card and it's even more restrictive to find a match. To get out of matchmaking jail you need to complete matches. I don't know how many and i think there's also a minimum time you have to serve. I'm not proud to say I've been there once in a particularly shitty week dealing with life issues and fuck me i will never go through the card system again. I'm taking like 20 minutes wait to get a match. I wouldn't say it's perfect but i can say i was reformed

I said it before, if you rage quit you should be placed in an entire separate ranking system called "Salt Ranks". You don't get to enjoy bragging about being "Blue rank" or "Red Rank", because that honor is now stripped from you. The only way to get out of it is by reverse ranking up. So in Salt rank you start at the top Salt rank possible. Each level up will reverse you down the tiers until you escape it. If you go up against someone in the salt ranks you will know a rage quit is coming so it's less frustrating.

I've "rage quit" like five times, but that's due to an error with the game suddenly crashing.. usually on that stormy ocean stage. There are people on reddit with screenshots of the same error message and it's both RTX and Radeon graphics cards. Before they start giving penalties, they need to fix the crashes.

See I'm a long time vet and TEKKEN has never found a way to deal with this back in the day T5 to T6 I believe nothing was in place? TT2 there was def nothing TR i believe counted both as a loss and many hated it so in T7 I think it just gave you a red name and called it a day. So now seeing T8 still unable to deal with this with a higher influx of players is just sad it's been over a damn decade and they still can't address this issue. Edit: Cheaters TEKKEN has alwyas had cheaters sadly these hacks are hard to detect if you notice its frame perfect they might be cheating to test this what you do is you space out and do a low if you do it their bot will quickly duck trying to parry it will ready it from even faraway letting you know that "yes" they are cheating atm there is even a TEKKEN streamer who uses all known cheats for tekken and is currently ranking up as we speak.

this is why i only play quick matches, sometimes your time is wasted with a really new player but no one ever plugs, i just have to take my win % as indication of my skill because the ranks mean nothing, so many players are boosted due to not losing points, they lose because they should be stuck at warrior, they shouldn't be blue so they get dicked by blue rank players. that's who you're playing against, that's why they're not difficult to beat, that's why they keep plugging.

Is there really no penalty? In tekken 7, they implemented a penalty system where they get demoted if they get disconnected more than 3 times in a set amount of matches. I got demoted twice because I used to play on really unstable WiFi and it would disconnect me randomly, very frequently. AT&T gave me the explanation that since I live by a river, internet connections can be faulty, but it sucked nonetheless.

Honestly, I've made it to Ruler ranks with my Yoshimitsu, and I haven't seen a single rage quit that I can remember. The first few days there were constant disconnects, but I think that was all just due to the server issues with BAMCO. At what ranks is everyone seeing these rage quits? I mean, there were some absolutely notorious rage quitters in Tekken 7, but T7 didn't get nearly as much attention as T8. I posted and submitted complaints about some of the worst rage quitters, but I kept running into them over and over. I'd love to get some kind of "rep" system, where you could plus or minus their "rep" after every match or set or something. I mean, sure, there'd be a bunch of minus "rep" points from people who are just salty every time they lose, but there's ways to write algorithms to sift through the data and pull out real insights as to who the pluggers and cheaters are. Hell, let us see replays and info for even matches that were disconnected in the middle of them. That's how these people really get way with it. They disconnect, and there's no way to look up their information afterwards, and looking up their player name or whatever just leads on a wild goose chase most of the time.

I honestly don't even care about rage quits, I very much like it when someone rage quits, it makes me feel good. What makes me upset is PC players making the match stutter every 2-5 seconds because their trash setup can't handle Tekken 8, that's the real problem. And I still think we should be "obligated" to complete the best out of 3 set. It's a ranked game mode, not a player match or quick match. IF they decide to leave and not complete the set, the other player should receive the same amount of points as if he won a match, but halved. Win quitters can go take a walk too... To comment on the whole disconnect/rage quitting part of the video, we don't need any sort of time outs, or any sort of bans IMO, I think that just losing X amount of points and even possibly losing ranks would be more than enough to make players stay in a match.

i do remember it was the same in Tekken 7 like you said unfortunately, people with 92 win streaks that always plugged when they were about to lose. however now with the even more rampant outrage and their previous statement, i feel like it will eventually be resolved. i think they’re trying to find an almost universal fix to try and completely shut it down rather than a sub-par one that they’ll quickly find a workaround to. i liked your suggestion for the warnings and penalties, however i don’t think player match plugs should be punished much in comparison (perhaps just a small time punishment at most) as well as 1 game quits. some people just don’t want to rematch, i know i hated the thought of rematching mfers like Marduk back in 7. great video again overall though. :)

Give them probation every time they plug. First plug restricts them for playing ranked 30min, 2nd one like 5 hours, etc. After not plugging for a while will reset the probation timer, this was how it was back in cod

All they need to do is give the plugger a loss and loss of points , and the player who stayed , a win and points. Way too hard for them to ban pluggers. But cheaters really need to be reported and punished with evidence. But a big issue also right now on PC , is the game randomly crashes a lot. That shit needs to be fixed.

I'm closing in on almost 500 ranked matches and haven't had this issue once. Then again' I'm still bouncing between yellow and orange ranks trying to learn the game. What's been a bigger problem for me is the crashing on PC. After the first few ranked crashes, I managed to find a temporary fix by turning my graphics settings all the way down, but i've got a baller PC that can easily run the game on max settings.

I think if you don't want to instantly penalize someone who immediatly DCs, you can have so when someone disconnects their character stays there without inputs for the recconnection time (like, lets say 30 seconds or something), so if someone disconnect as they are about to lose the match it'd still be accounted. Honestly tho I think 100% of the DC's should be penalized, people who don't disconnect dishonestly wouldn't be affected by that very much.

I hear people talking about rage quitters a lot. There needs to be a punishment for quitting games. However, in my 75hours of playtime I wasn't quitted on once (I play on EU1). I might just be lucky or its a region thing.

Counter Strike 2 (and before when it was Counter Strike Global Offensive) times you out for leaving mid ranked matches and the duration of timeouts becomes larger if you dissconnect multiple times in a row or in a specific time frame. I feel that should be implemented because I feel that if we only reward the player left but not penalize the plugger, this can be a easier access to boosting if used to its advantage. So unless the Tekken Team doesn't put in a safety measurement to prevent fighting the same opponnent over and over again, a timeout seems like the better option personally speaking. Besides one can argue that if they break the rules of the game then they should face consequences. In soccer/ football if you foul someone, you get the red card and can't play in the next game.

As someone who's played the game since Tekken 1 I can truly say there are A LOT of toxic players in the game wherever u play. It's simply because the game is so hard and Harada himself never really penalized players for bad behavior aside from Rage Quitting. It's always been an issue and believe me they've done much worse. And yes there should be harsher penalties for things like this. Definitely. Unfortunately all you can do right now is just block the player who Rage quitted or harassed you. There was never any block feature in Tekken 7 so there's that. But yes there should be harsher penalties indeed. But for now? That's really all you can do and file a report sadly.

Longstanding problem with all online competitive games. Given that the people who are mainly affected by and care about this are in the minority... and the casuals are the vast majority. For the devs, implementing disconnect punishment means doing work to add a feature which will only end up driving casuals away, which means the investors lose money. That is why these problems pretty much never get fixed and i can guarantee you it will go unaddressed for the entire lifespan of tekken 8.

one gripe I've got with ranked right now is that the ranks make absolutely no sense I scraped and clawed my way to orange so now I'm fighting oranges, reds, and purples yellows have no idea what they're doing, never block, and fall for every frame trap yeah, makes sense so far orange block a bit more and aren't as easy to trick with frame traps yeah, checks out reds are unstoppable gods that block everything, call every low, combo you for 80% of your health, taunt after every round and kicharge in your face uh... what? I've run into PURPLES that fall for more frame traps than reds, block less of my strings, parry less of my lows what is actually going on in red? I've also just had a general problem with toxicity, one and dones, taunting, kicharging

I've gotten a few terrible timed hard crashes where I was like 1 or 2 mixups from losing the set. Im certain my opponent saw it as me plugging. But yea I've definitely gotten a good few obvious plugs Plugging is pretty rampant rn

This is so annoying I don't know why after this many years of online fighting games and its still a thing. It shouldn't be this deep man. It's online so you should expect it to be a flawed ecoeriencs. Just give the one who disconnected the loss and the other guy the win and leave it at that, just ban anyone else who exploits the system to boost thier friends and leave it at that. I had a 15 match win streak with kazuya, and I came back the next day and was matched with a console player who plugged on me, when I matched again I had lost my win streak, infuriating..

The problem is that sometimes people just have bad Wi-Fi. My own game gets disconnected due to my home Wi-Fi being buggy at times. It just turns off. ‘Cheaters’ are those who messed with the game itself to break it. Giving themselves infinite points, instant death, and other things. ‘Pluggers’ are actually not that bad. This is the Tekken community you’re talking about. If you want them to play, it’s better to give them reasons to find fun in losing. Calling plugging ‘toxic’ and ‘you should fix your internet connection before playing’ is a very subjective statement. The game is meant for players and we should be free to play it how we want. You yourself get nothing from a higher rank besides bragging rights, and those who are farming points are playing a very different game from the majority. You’re saying you don’t want Tekken to alienate players, but punishing people for a bad Wi-Fi connection is the worst. On top of that, because I play on Steam Deck, my issues are the game’s own fault (details on that are explained if you look it up). Anyway, I say people who play for points don’t have as much fun as those who play for fun. Better to try to persuade them to try and play Tekken instead of a farming simulators.
