A french team in total disarray and by God they were playing poorly, but that is not to take anything away from Iceland - they played with their hearts on their sleeves, extremely satisfying to witness such a great performance (again) from such a small country!

For many years I follow European tournaments, I know at any moment, any team can make beautiful surprises. I think all is in the mental. You can play very well during 4 matches but suddenly, because of trust excess or overreaction from the opponents, surprise can be the agent of your defeat. Denmark needs to win France, that will guarantee your road to the semi final and massively help Iceland. With this B team there is absolutely no guarantee we will win Croatia or Montenegro. However if Denmark wins France I think we only need to win either one of Croatia or Montenegro and if we get to the semi finals, then we start getting our star players back from Covid I believe.

But if draw with Denmark and France, or if France wins then Iceland is out. I knew we would lose to Croatia though, even though we were like 4 goals up and 2 goals up in half time.

Excepted if Iceland has a tie game for at least one of two next matches and/or victories with very low goal average, France still can win with two victories. On the contrary, France will have to take a huge advantage on Denmark. Nevertheless, Euro is still full of surprise, Covid or not. Then wait and see.

If i am correct: Denmark beat Croatia tonight. Next all big 3 favorites win their next matches on the 24th, it‘s Denmark 8, Iceland 6, France 6. If Iceland wins on the last matchday, France needs a victory vs. Denmark. My understanding is that it‘s a head-to-head tiebreaker. So Denmark +4 goals, Iceland +4 goals and France starts with -8. Big job than for France because Iceland is save, Denmark will try their hardest not to lose with 7 goals difference or they are out.

Congratulations to Iceland, who played very well tonight. ;) I think the absence of French coach, Guillaume Gille and two of the most important French defense players Fabregas and Konan, hugely impacted French team mental. I fear more cases and the team will go home. Already in the team 2 players with 2 games for the national team (at least one of them; Elvar Ásgeirsson I think) and 2 players from our home league with no game experience just added to the team. Just to keep the team afloat. But besides that a brilliant game and kudos to the trainer too. We have really good trainers in Iceland. 3 at this tornament. I think in the last World Cup we had 5-6 national trainers out of 20. And think about this absurd thing; trainers never get a medal. When Gudmundur made Denmark Olympic champion few years back he got no medal. But the queen awarded him. Vesteinn Hafsteinsson took gold and silver in discus throwing with 2 Swedes at the Tokyo Olympucs. Guys he had been training for a decade. He was voted the best trainer in Sweden few days ago but no medals. We have to change that. It is obvious that the right trainers make all the difference. It is not just because of the skill of the Norwegian handball girls that they have won one title after another for more than 10 years. The most important man there is Þórir Hergeirsson who was voted the trainer of the year in Iceland, an award he should have had a decade ago and many times after that. Our handball trainers are just as good an export product as the players are.

Yes, but for this time I don't think so. I think they knew the victory was important tonight. Because of the absence of Fabregas and Gille, they found difficulties with rotations and they displayed their worst level (too much rush in the first minutes and missed shots, not enough mental. And Mathé who was replacing Gille only stopped the game once).

France is not safe, it's basically out of French hands unless you have a huge victory against Denmark, like +7 goals which is unlikely. Basically France needs to rely on Iceland losing some of it's games to go to semi Finals. And that is of course likely to happen since this B team won't be stable like the main team, plus there might come even more covid cases. Iceland is very likely to drop some points against either Croatia or Montenegro, but then again, Denmark is also not an easy competitor for France. Iceland does have a tough history with handling the Balkan countries in handball while they have pretty good history against Denmark and France. Croatia has proved especially difficult to win for Iceland in the last 2 decades.

On a vu les problèmes, l'absence de fond de jeu de l'équipe de France dans les matchs précédents. Aujourd'hui on s'est fait punir. Mais quand même, on prend 8 buts par le même joueur et on le prend pas en strict. Bref, Bien joué à l'Islande clairement un cran au-dessus.

L'arbitrage y est pour énormément quand même. Ils n'ont rien sifflé contre l'Islande qui pouvait défendre en zone, faire des passage en force ou pousser les Français au moment du shoot sans n'être jamais punis. Les 2 minutes pour rien pleuvaient par contre côté français. Du moins tout ça en première période, j'ai arrêté à la pause tant c'était grotesque.

@@maximebgt857 Désolé, on peut se cacher derrière, du moins pour les 8 buts d'écart. Bien sûr, le gardien islandais a été fantastique. Mais nous avons assisté à un arbitrage anti-français scandaleux digne du Allemagne-France de 2007. En première période (j'ai éteint la télé à la pause), les Islandais pouvaient tout faire, pousser les joueurs pendant les shoots, défendre en zone, même passer en zone devant le tireur, défendre très rugueusement : rien, jamais de 2 minutes, deux penalties pour des fautes tellement énormes qu'ils ne pouvaient pas faire autrement, la plupart du temps même pas un 9m pour des fautes grossières. Les Islandais étaient beaucoup plus physiques et n'ont jamais été sanctionnés. Par contre, côté français, des 2 minutes pour rien (sauf Grébille), des penalties pour rien, des passages en force qui envoient le français sur la ligne du but mais rien, la balle rendue aux Islandais quasi-systématiquement... Je veux bien que les Islandais soient talentueux, que le gardien islandais (qui n'avait pourtant rien fait de l'Euro jusque là) a été extraordinaire (bravo à lui), mais comment peut-on croire un instant que l'Islande B peut passer +8 à la France A' sans que les arbitres ne soient pour rien ? Tout cela dit malgré tout sans manquer de respect aux Islandais qui ont une équipe fantastique par rapport à la taille de leur pays et dont les joueurs ont été corrects et n'ont fait que profiter, comme tout le monde l'aurait fait, des cadeaux qu'ils ont reçus. Et peut-être même (voire sans doute) qu'ils auraient gagné sans l'aide des arbitres, mais ça n'aurait pas fait -7 à la mi-temps (je ne sais pas ce qui s'est passé dans la seconde), résultat qui nous élimine pratiquement de la course aux demi-finales alors qu'une défaite d'un ou deux buts n'aurait pas été rédhibitoire. Bref, on peut trouver des choses à redire dans le jeu français mais trouver l'arbitrage normal, désolé de le dire, mais ce n'est rien connaître au hand.

French players pushed during attacks, icelandic defending in area zone without even a 9m, player running in the area zone in front of a French player at 6m becoming 2 minutes for a French and a penalty for Iceland ? Four 2min for France versus 0 in first half three of which for nothing ? I stopped watching at half-time, it was so grotesque and ridiculous. That the worse refereeing versus France since Germany-France in 2007 World Cup. You won by 8 with a B-team over the Olympic Champions, off course the referees were fantastic, I understand perfectly what you mean.
