Not tryin to be that person but as a vet tech, plz plz plz do not allow him on any surface but inside ur home till he is fully vaxed!!! Even 2 parvo vax at his age he is still able to contract it till he has his 3rd vax and his rabies. Also plz get the bordetella vax if u r taking him out with u. Its one we give for ones who go to dog parks, get boarded or go to doggy day care. He is absolutely precious and i luv u r taking him places with u just be cautious. Shoot maybe he has had his final vax by this video coming out but i had to at least let ya know. Congrats again on ur new little precious boy!! Oh n def as others have said def get u a harness n leash, the earlier u start training on it the easier it is!

Get a dog crate (wire cage) for Asher. It's not cruel, they find comfort in them. You also need a harness and leash if you're going to take him shopping. Puppies have a hard time with crowds and lots of noise so it's good to introduce quick trips. Honestly, they are happier home in a crate. Don't use too many words when training. A simple "sit" and "stay" is easier for them and best if only one person is training them. Did you get him microchipped? He still needs a collar and ID tags in case he gets lost. Cocker Spaniels do need to be groomed. Make sure you brush his longer hair regularly to get any knots out so they don't get matted, especially before a bath. Not knowing his mix, tho he is primarily Cocker, the grooming schedule should be every 8 weeks or so. Find a good groomer you can trust, they are worth their weight in gold. Yes, I'm a retired groomer but it's still true, lol. His nibbling is from teething, get him a teether toy. You'll find little baby teeth on the floor every once in a while so wear slippers!

@@DixiesBargains agreed, the only reason people use crates is to give themselves time out from their dogs. Every dog I had did not require a crate, Never used one, because the dogs were trained to live with humans and other pets. I also had chickens etc.

I dog sit for people…please train your dog to be in a crate. It’s usually a safe place for them too! I am careful to only plan on about 4 hours too. Gives me time to run errands, go to church etc. and not worry if they’re getting into stuff.

I love dogs and have had many. Golden rule with puppies….. take outside each time they finish eating or wake up. Yes it’s a pain, but well worth the initial effort. He is adorable and those eyes!!

Asher is adorbs! We use a halter and an elastic seatbelt holder for our corgi, Kevin. You can use that in the cart to keep him in safely and also in your car. Gotta keep our fur babies safe!

Your puppy s gorgeous! I was the puppy sitter when our daughters and son had puppies. I am a horrible potty trainer! Fortunately, we have an extra large backyard so we just made sure they went out several times a day. Our dog from the pound came potty trained. He trained the puppies for me. He’s been gone for over three years now. Miss him so much! Love on your baby!

You guys picked the right kind of dog for kids and families. I. Had a Black one as a small child and he wentt everywhere I went. He was my best friend as an only child living in the flinthills of Kansas. He was the best thing ever. Asher is the best when he goes to wiggle around usually means needs to go out to potty take him out regular and he will learn really quick to potty train himself. Love you guys. Merry Christmas.

Not to be a know it at all, but I know a lot about puppies and dogs . I was a breeder for many years. I recommend if you must take your puppy that I’m sure it’s not fully vaccinated yet, you don’t put him down anywhere we’re other dogs have been and not to be rude, but I would not let other people pet him. Doesn’t take much for them to pick up a virus especially at a young age love you channel and that is one adorable little puppy. Take care.

I agree totally. Have been a dog owner for over 50 years of different breeds from chihuahuas to English shorthair pointers, Lads, and more. Don’t expose your puppy to common areas until he is fully vaccinated. Crate training is a great help for house breaking your puppy. It also gives them a safe space at home to sleep. I put up a play yard fence in my house for my puppy. It is a safe space for them to play. I always potty pad train my puppies as well as going potty outside. Then if he has to stay home put him in the play yard with food, water, his bed, toys and a potty pad. He will be happy with all of his things. You need a harness and leash for outings to keep him safe and near you at all times.

Not good advice. My dog was in group training at 8’weeks. You need to get them out have people touch them. And learn new places. Walks can only be about 2 blocks per month of age.

Asher is so cute! His coloring is similar to aussie shepherd( that I have seen), but springer spaniel are spotted also. For the eating of the poo most dogs do it, but-I found out thru my vet you can put small amount of crushed pineapple mixed in with food. Something about when they poo that out they detest it and dont like the taste. My pooch would never eat the pineapple, so we trained him with the "Leave it": command very early and quickly. That's a very good command for them to learn as they do want to chew/eat everything they see. If you can train him with that command outside, that 's best. That's where all the stimulation is. I would wave my hand down in there eye sight say Leave it with authority and when they leave it give a treat or positive reinforcement. You and Matt are going to be great puppy parents! Just take lots of patience and love. Great video! Awesome finds!

When my cocker was a pup I bought a set of Andis dog clippers and a couple of blades and taught myself to clip. You have to start right from their first clip so they get used to it. The clippers were an expense at the time but I quickly worked out that if I paid a professional for two clips a year over the life of my dog they would pay for themselves.

Asher looks like a chocolate merle. Chocolate and or merles will have a red glow in their eyes under a camera light, I know this works on Frenchies. You may need a darker room to see this. It will look a bit creepy 😆 Enjoy your new puppy!!!

If ASHER is going to be a thrifting pup... he's definitely going to need a carrier or be held in a large cross body bag like that Free People one you recently sold! This will train him to be much calmer at these types of events. Also... the poop eating issue. If he's a rescue, it could be a sign of not being fed enough and having to depend upon poo for nutrition (so sad.) And also makes it a really difficult habit to break. So you may want to start really researching ways to combat that issue right away. I know many dogs can have that habit. But when it comes to the starvation kind.... it can be much more difficult to combat. Poor little guy❤ I just love him already!!! It'll be really helpful for him to be in a bag or carrier up close to you guys! Congratulations on your new family member. Hope your turkey day was absolutely amazing! Big hugs to you all!!!

Great idea to take Asher with you shopping. He’ll be a wonderful little companion. My parents were married 10 years before the finally had kids. They had a cocker spaniel named Falstaff. The dog didn’t like us kids and unfortunately Falstaff had to go after he bit the neighbor kid. But I have a picture of him painted on silk in Korea when my dad was in the Korean conflict. My dad had 3 pictures painted, my mom, their house and Falstaff. Probably TMI. Love you both!

At the Dollar Tree, you can get a little baggie carrier that has a hand sanitizer on it - I have one attached to the handle of my dog's leash and also in my car so after I "scoop" I can sanitize until I can get somewhere to wash my hands. It's refillable for both baggies and sanitizer.
