I could see that the top of the door was a bit bluer, but that also could of been that the primer may have what we call bleed thru, giving it a lighter or bluer appearance. Basically you may not have got it covered with the color enough. It could also be that the color was not agitated good enough to. (Shake it for 5 mins)

Finally showing the actual process instead of skipping/editing it. Because when we try at home, and we get what doesn't look to be the shiny clear mirror finish, we get discouraged. Good to see what it looks like "mid-way" to see what we have to do to get the end. Honestly, turned out A LOT better than I thought it would. This should be OK for most people who don't care for show-quality, just want the unsightly clear coat peel gone...

Great video. A modification I would make is getting the paint code and going to a paint store where they can factory match and put in an aerosol can. The results would be about as perfect as one could expect. The one variable is this existing paint is OLD and pearls are very hard to match. Also def be aware that 2K has isotopes that will KILL you. Wear a appropriately rated respirator whenever you spray 2k paints/clears. Stuff is no joke!

Don’t do a mist coat just to finish the can on the last coat, that’s why you got orange peel. That’s the best 2k rattle can out there. If you spray it rite, you can get no orange peel. Glad to see someone actually doing the correct steps (Sand, prime, base, & clear coat).
@dkindig4 жыл бұрын
Ditto on actually doing the correct steps, glad to see that. I've got to repair an area that was poorly done by someone else, clear flaked right off. I suspect that they attempted to spray the clear over the original base coat and I found out that clear needs to chemically bond to the base shortly after the base is sprayed for best results. Now I know that I have to go all the way back to primer for best adhesion...

Forty-four years ago my younger brother repainted my '70 Mercury Capri using a sprayer that attached to the exhaust port of a vacuum cleaner. He worked on it in his spare time and it took five weeks. Most of the time was spent preparing the vehicle to be painted. My brother more or less made me promise to not get antsy and want to look at it before he was finished. It turned out great. We still talk about it. My brother did a great job with the body preparation. This was all done in a time when cell phone cameras didn't exist. What gives me pause now is thinking about how _no one_ even thought to take a single photograph before or after so all I have are the memories of what the vehicle looked like before the job and afterwards.

After a few steps of trial and error and before I watched this, I did something similar. The results were equally impressive. The two steps I added were to use a polishing compound after the cutting compound and to wax as a final step. The polishing compound will give it an even better mirror like finish. I get them for about $20 each when I need a color that I can’t easily make. They spray better and match better then Duplicolor. Larger cans too. 2). You can cut down on orange peel a huge amount amount by spraying the 2nd-last layer of clear much wetter, it’ll make the wet sand and polish process 10x easier. Most jobs don’t even need a polish when applied in that way. Great work and way to get out there and do stuff! Too much talk from most people.

Best to remove the door handle and belt moldings vs. tape them off. Why? The clear/color coat will lift where the frog tape met with the molding as there is no surface prep to hold it. Otherwise, this is a great alternative to professional body shop methods which simply revert to complete paint of doors. One alternative to the rattle can color coat. Get a pint of color matched paint from a local automotive paint shop. Heavy on the clear so it doesn't do this again. Looks better than it did and thats the important part.

I just bought the B-92P paint for my Honda as well. Duplicolor. I tested it on something else and held it up to the car and it was wayyy off. Really blue. What I did was I applied a basic black base for 3 coats (it was over light Grey primer) then did a final dust coat with the b92p. It was a very close match

If the damage was just in the clear coat was the primer and base coat really necessary? Can someone explain?
@Super-lucky-77772 ай бұрын
No wasn't Necessary

Dude that looks really good! I would imagine if you fixed your spot and then sanded and primed the whole door it would have been to where you couldn’t tell. But honestly it looks 1million times better!

You’re spraying 2k clear without a respirator??? This can kill you, or at the very least, do severe damage to your lungs and skin.

Agreed. Haven't seen him respond to anyone about it either. 2k is NASTY stuff.

Do you have to use primer or can you just spray the paint if you’ve sanded some and cleaned?
@Imwright7202 жыл бұрын
Very nice. My 1 suggestion is that primer needs about 180 grit for a good bond. Check the can for the best grit for your primer to bond to.

DuPont used to make some paint called Centari , it was a highly durable enamal paint , with a little practice it was pretty easy to use , we used it on ALOT ! of trucks and blazers , you might see if they still make it .

I'm fixing the clear coat on my side mirrors that have spots of the clear coat eaten away by acid from bugs hitting them. I have 2 foam sanding blocks 400/600 and 1000/1500 grits. I dry sanded up to the 1000 and wet sanded the 1500 grit. I taped plastic painters sheets over the door and fender and bent the mirror to it's folded position and am putting 3-5 very light applications of rattle can clear on. It's turning out very well.
