I wish I knew about the Fair phone before I bought my new one at beginning of this year. The X Cover 6 pro was only available to businesses. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the best phone ever. I'm using it right now to write to you, but can't make or receive calls anymore. I bought it new in 2014 and IT STILL WORKS! Except the phone company won't support it. And they want sustainable this and that. Right. I had to get a new phone because of them.
@TheHopelessGeek Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Although I didn't like the software on the S5, it was an amazing device for its time.

@@TheHopelessGeek Ah, you're far more techy than me. But for me, I let the young sales guy at the kiosk pick a good phone for me back in 2014, and he did a good job. It was considered one of the best at that time. But I get attached to my things. Take good care of them. Then I refuse to let them go. Don't care for anything new if what I have still works great for me! I'm just old school. And old now too!

It indeed was one of the best things back then. A beautiful AMOLED screen, one of the industry's first fingerprint sensors (although poorly implemented 😅), a 4K video capable 16 mp camera, water resistance with that full-size port.. it was unique!

I haven't used SD cards since 2013, but it won't hurt to have that expansion capability. Even though they aren't as fast as the device's built-in flash memory, it's nice to store some files that aren't always in use.

Those downsides are insignificant or total BS. LG needs to update the V20, as that is the best phone. What sucks is the screen is very fragile.

The V20 was ahead of its time in many ways. I wish they still made phones. They stopped two years ago and stopped removable batteries even before that. I'm hoping that the EU battery laws of 2027, which mandate removable battery designs, will improve things again.

Depending on the network, V20's and I think all LTE phones are no longer operable. I dislike the fairphone 5 for lacking a back mounted fingerprint sensor, side-mounted ones have been completely unreliable in my experience. Personally, I'm just hoping that the EU legislation will force the Unihertz Jelly series to add removable batteries.

@TheHopelessGeek I appreciate your fast and invested reply. Personally, I don't think it's going to matter for smartphones as we know them for much longer. I believe smartwatch/AR glasses combos will replace them as the new "smartphone", removing the need for led screens and saving space among other things.

Unless buying a flagship phone, the reason to buy a removable battery and use it for 5 years atleast works only for people who are outdoors longer than average phone charge lasts which is 22 hours.. and 90% cases the battery should last 5years without loosing more than 10% of its life. And there's already very good portable powerbanks cheap to premium features in the market that do fast charging to anything you can plug it to wired or wireless, and take space similar to a perfume bottle or spectacle case. The recycling of old phones should be heavily promoted instead of heavily promoting removable battries. I do like the repair ability by consumer themselves but that is only with fair phone that is doing
@TheHopelessGeek Жыл бұрын
Yes, phone recycling is another issue. Some companies, like Apple, have figured it out specifically for their phones.
