As someone who's used a lathe BRIEFLY (less than a month of real usage) it probably could be done? getting it to be perfectly round i can see being a challenge, but better than this would be quite easy If someone with significant experience is here please tell us lol

I had never seen a wooden ball until this past July. I bought a Madness while on vacation and was blown away by the inventory in the shop. I was given a tour of the shop and shown an undrilled wooden ball that was made before the standardization of ball size at 8 1/2". If I remember correctly, 8 1/2 became standard in the 1920's. This ball was 7 1/2" or 7 3/4".

Ya know they have a golf tournament for only wooden clubs. Louisville Golf is still producing them. I actuly bought a set 20 years ago and they performed pretty well. I still have the laminated wooden putter. The clubs themselves were gorgeous. Why not a wooden ball tournament. That would be great❤❤❤

Im a woodworker, and after watching this video im brainstorming the best way to make one. Pretty sure it would have to be made in two pieces then glued up, there aren't a whole lot of great ways to mount a perfect sphere on a lathe and you really don't want a 15lbs chunk of wood flying loose at 1000 rpm. Maybe i should make one and send it to packy 😂

As wood worker I have thought about making a wooden bowling house ball a few times. Wood is porous and it soaks up oil. The right right kind of hard wood it might could do pretty good. I wonder if my would freak out if I threw one. It might be a fun challenge to see who could make Packy the best ball.

you say they are rare. but it probably wouldnt be to hard to make them new just need somone who is half decent with a large lathe. and have some mid sized stumps or logs id love to see this done with some fresh wooden balls im sure back in the day that ball was significantly more round than it is now. and i think it would be cool to see it done with diffrent types of wood
