I started using this platform yesterday ironically. Though I had done my research before, one of the things that caught me off guard was the charge to reinvest money that’s been accumulated. Moreover, the option when to do this, e.g. every 10, 50, 100 pounds etc.

You can have an many ISAs as you want. Just use one in each tax year. And can top up only one. But if you have others from other tax years you can manage what is inside of that ISA if this makes sense.

Hi Graham As you're new to this, I wouldn't suggest that you pick individual stocks. Explore buying a passive fund (ETF or Index Funds {also called an OEIC}). This will help to reduce your risk tied to specific companies. You can wirhdraw your money, yes, by selling your holdings. But note that this is obviously an investment. It can go up or down. But this shouldn't put you off. Focus on investing in the right types of funds (low cost and global focused). I'd suggest also watching our Investing Playlist here on KZbin 😀

Hi Ken thanks for the video. I have a question for you. I have been looking at opening an account to invest in mainly ETFs and maybe some funds in the future. I have an issue when I open an account, as since I was born in America and now live in the UK for pretty much most of my life, I have an American and British passport- ie: I have dual citizenship. I set up an account on HL but read their rules about being classed as an American resident. I tried to open one on Vanguard but having some issues with it. Due to my circumstances, what platform is good or what can I do so that I can still invest in funds and ETFs without being restricted because of my dual citizenship. Thanks :)

Nice video and useful content. However, I believe HL to be poor value for money. I started with them but the 0.45% platform fee + trading fees for ETFs put me off. I've now created a 6 ETF global portfolio (all VG & iShares index trackers) using Trading 212. This is made very easy by the 'Pie' feature. My weighted average fee is 0.1% with no platform fee.

@Leo_65430
@Leo_65430 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHumblePenny Hi Ken, I had wondered about this. I think they make their money off their CFD accounts where they do charge a fee. Clearly most investors should stay away from CFDs, but the free ISA and general accounts excellent. Main downside is no OEICs - so no Lifestrategy.

How does a non-math person calculate all the extra fees for different amounts? Probably obvious to an ex-accountant and everyone investing but am lost on that. If I am not the only one, maybe you could show us in another video? Thank you for taking us through the process of opening an account with the diverse platforms :)
@TheHumblePenny

I'll make a video about understanding fees and how to calculate them :). But in simple terms, the fees should be worried about is usually stated as a percentage. e.g. a fee of 0.45% is per annum and in calculated on the total value of your portfolio (i.e. all your holdings) depending on what assets you're holding. So if your pot was £100k, it would simply be 0.45% (i.e. 0.45/100 = 0.0045) x £100k = £450. This would be your investing fee for the year. But like I said, I'll do something on fees soon :)

I invest with Hagreaves & chose the platform due to the wealth of information & resources, particularly as a fairly new investor. However, as time has moved on I have realised that I do most of my research on other sites, such as the Motley Fool for example. I like Hagreaves & it works well for the modest amount I have invested right now. However, as my portfolio grows, the fees are likely to rack up & eat into my investments. This could be in the thousands once I reach my FIRE number. Therefore, I plan to hold most of my wealth in Vanguard funds, due to lower costs.
