This is my favorite one because it’s very similar to most of my hunts I take advantage of rd and creek crossing sign! We don’t always have time to go way back! Close drags are my speciality!!!!

Bowhunting is focusing on a tract of land, narrowing it down to a specific area and then finding that hole to “thread the needle”. Nothing more gratifying than looking at a spot on a huge tract of forest, and finding the hole that’s no bigger than an outhouse (or sometimes a toilet seat) and having the confidence to know that under a recipe of conditions, the forests wisest beast will walk through it. 1st rule in hunting big bucks? know what they’re going to do before they do, and you’re in the money.

The breakdown of the why and how is really cool! I wish all hunters would more thought into why rather than just tromping through the woods. My best big buck spots are almost always very difficult to get to.

I love your videos. My biggest buck taken was about 45 yards off a road on stateland as i was walking to my stand that was maybe 130 yards from the road. Had a chance following fall same stand just got busted on the draw. Alot of people dont realize how good some of those spots are.

Make the small adjustments that are needed...great advice. 2 years in a row had same thing happen deer came in at ten yards or so and couldn't see it could hear it just not see. So this year I'm moving ten yards in a different tree to see a little more with less cover and see how it goes. You guys make me wanna try this "new" way of hunting. Keep doing what you guys do.

Last season I shot my buck 75 yards off a road on my cousin's property. We noticed it was a popular place for deer to cross and, I believe, there was a bedding area across the road. It was weird watching cars and joggers go by, but the deer didn't mind. You can even see my cousin's house from the stand!

Ahhh I was gonna get first like and comment...I got beat by 3 seconds. So now that I watched it...lol. You make some great points. I couldn't tell you how many times over the years that we've hunted a property all archery season, and then comes gun season and guys head off from the parking area in different directions than we had been going and a huge buck gets jumped like a pheasant less than 100 yards from the truck. Most of those times when we'd go look where he had been, there was a well established bedding area watching the lot. So it makes ya wonder how many times during those archery seasons that they watched us walk into and out of the woods, and just held tight to those beds. I'm sure it's much more common than we realize with mature bucks!

Great videos guys. A lot of people over look them. I killed my first buck(nice little 7 pt) last year on a WMA at 13 yrds, 50 yrds from the road. Just a high travel corridor on a hardwood/pine transition line with a creek at the bottom of the hill. Hopefully the big 6 that was with him will be a big 8 this year and I'll get a crack at him.

can you do a vid breaking down the whole thermals thing? I don't quite understand all of it and it would be super helpful for someone like me who Is always hunting new public land depending on where im at that year
@blzn04
@blzn04 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Vid! So many questions but ill try to keep it brief. Hopefully yall will have time to reply or maybe someone else can answer. If the thermals in these hubs are not great when the temps rise in the morning are they better to hunt on evening hunts when it cools and drags the thermals back down? Or is it just that rutting activity is better in the mornings so you risk the thermals?
@panchovilla0690
@panchovilla0690 5 жыл бұрын
From what understood, more I g thermals push scent up. Away from the deer and the hub, once everything equalizes in temp they start to swirl really bad. Evening thermals would dump or pool your scent right to them in the hub
@TheHuntingPublic
@TheHuntingPublic 5 жыл бұрын
In our experience, most low spots like thermal hubs are hard to access in the evenings because the deer are bedded up on the ridges watching down below. Easier to sneak in under cover of darkness and then hunt the first few hours of the morning when it's super calm and your wind isn't tumbling over the ridges.

You talk about this place being a thermal hub, when the thermals are falling, but you hunted it late into the AM. So how much did the thermal hub part play into your decision. Thermals may have still been falling early AM before the sun beat down, but you shot this buck well after the thermals would still have been falling right? Correct me where I'm wrong, im just curious of your decision to choose this spot based off it being a thermal hub. Was that just one part of the equation (early morning)... and one of the main other parts being where multiple trails collide?

Within two days, my dad, my cousin,and myself killed three good bucks. This spot was a treestand about 60 yds from the road. It was Thanksgiving weekend and all three of the bucks that were killed were cruising through in the thick of the rut. One buck was actually chasing a doe right before my dad shot him. These spots simply cannot be overlooked. In my opinion, these spots can be great.

Tip: if you see deer crossing a road their crossing the road for a reason. Go investigate that area and find out why they’re crossing the road there. I’ve killed a lot of deer within 100 yards of a road. I’ve also killed them way back in the woods. The spots close to the road are the nicest though.

To many people feel they gotta be 2 miles or more back into the woods to "get away" from the other hunters which is funny cause thats generaly where most of the other hunters are lol. I love being 50 to 300 yards off the roads cause one its easy in easy out a lot of times theres generaly less pressure and you can normaly see a fair amount of deer.
