Sony A7R V Review - Master of Many Trades [ 2023 ] - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5PIY6qqhL-Xnac

I own this lens and have been using it since it's release a month ago. I sold my Tamron 70-180, which it replaces. It has also relegated my wonderful 2.8/90 Macro G to only occasional use. The 90 macro is lighter, but not weather sealed and thus does not travel with me. My kit is now this 70-200 macro on my a7Rv + the f/16-35 PZ G on my a7Riv. If astro is anticipated I add my Laowa f2 15mm Zero-D. All 3 lenses share 72mm filters (I use K&F magnetic). Comparing results with the 70-200 macro at MFD with those I achieve with the 90 macro, they are indistinguishable, phenomenal for a zoom!

Saying hi from Argentina, believe me that ai watched a LOT OF REVIEWS of this lens, because I bought it, and you have the best review... congrats and keep doing this excellent content

I got mine some weeks ago. I have used 1.4x TC on it. It makes it closer to real macro.

Modern f4 lenses are a very good choice for full frame cameras. Enough bokee, smaller lighter with great quality

Agreed

Loved this video. Thanks so much! As a f4 zoom lover myself I’d love to know your thoughts on the 20 - 70 in future. These two lenses have single handedly convinced me to give Sony another try.

great video... how is the macro performance compare to FE 90mm macro
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 90mm is 1:1 Macro, 70-200 II is 1:2 so half magnification. IQ is similar.
@HieuKa86 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHybridShooteri am trying to play around the macro world. Considering these both lenses, one has bigger aperture maybe useful in some lowlight situations while the other is very versatile focal range but half of macro and low light maybe a trade off. I’m still on the fence as the price of 70-200 g2 is still a bit higher imo. Would you have any advice, thanks
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
Not really, those are different types of lenses, so it is difficult to give an objective advice. 90mm is a more capable macro lens with brighter aperture, 70-200mm is better at everything else.
@markrigg662310 ай бұрын
There's no real comparison. One is a macro lens, one is a close up lens.

I noticed you generally showed this lens when it was at 70mm... Is that your most used focal length with the 70-200mm G2?

Any thoughts on the new Tamron 70-180 f2.8 G2?

I haven’t tried that one yet.

This looks so nice, I might switch my Tamron 70-180 out for this. The stabilization would be so useful. So glad I went with Sony full frame, the lens ecosystem just keeps getting better and better,
@proksalevente Жыл бұрын
Take a look at the v2 of the 70-180 :)
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
@proksalevente and make sure that the AF works, which is not the case with 28-75 version.

I can't recall you ever giving a more enthusiastic review for any other zoom lens. This is going to cost me! Interesting. I also have an OM-1 and was considering getting the 40-150mm F2,8 Pro. This lens with either of the new A7C bodies is actually smaller and lighter! Go figure.
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
This is the second most impressive zoom lens that I have ever tested after Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, that one has even more impressive packaging and by far the best bokeh in the class.
@spakecdk Жыл бұрын
Well the 40-150 is 80-300 f5.6 equivalent, so there is much more reach there. Also it zooms internally, which is a big plus for me
@j16m02 Жыл бұрын
@@spakecdk I like the internal zoom for sure, and it really is a terrific lens. Personally though, I have pre ordered the A7CR. That gives me 200mm with 60 mp and a FF F4. If I need more reach, I can shoot in APSC mode and still have 26mp at 300mm. As I said, the 40-150/2.8 is an amazing lens as is the Sony. It's just remarkable to me how similar the size and weight is.
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
@@spakecdk The output is nowhere near 70-200 G II in combination with 61 mp sensor, though.

Would love to buy it but in france it cost 2000 euros including VAT
@bioliv1 Жыл бұрын
Here it's 2500 euros, and they only want to give me 1600 euros for my GM 100-400, so it makes no sense to change. I rather carry that bulky lens than loosing that amount of money.
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
That is actually a very good price.

This new f4 lens or 2.8 mark1? 🤔 Found them at about the same price
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
For portraits / events, I would probably go with F2.8, otherwise F4 II.
@mrmonday42 Жыл бұрын
I would go with the new f4 and get an 85mm f1.4 for portraits. That said, I love my 70-200 GM2
@Super01041994 Жыл бұрын
@@mrmonday42 I have an 85 plus more,135, 50, 35, 28-75, 17-28 😅 but wanted a 70-200 for street photography as it's longer than what I have and more versatile. The 70-180 is also a good option but not amazing to hold and shoot with it. I love my Sigma's but Tamron is just too plasticky 🥴
@mrmonday42 Жыл бұрын
@@Super01041994 I agree, Tamron's are very plasticy. For street specifically the f2.8 would come in handy
