Completely agree with your points. Motion controls never really bugged me, but I lost interest in the game when I noticed how repetitive and limited the exploration is. The sky feels like a glorified select-a-level screen from a Mario game. I dropped it when it started to ask me to return to the same places I'd already been to, which is a shame since there are definitely some cool mechanics in the game like shield forging.

I remember when the quarantine got started, I wanted to go back and play through a bunch of old Zelda titles. This was my second play through of SS. I remember feeling drained at the long beginning, but then the moment I finished fighting the Imprisoned, I finally realized the heavy flaws that this game had. I realized the needless backtracking that I would have to do and the excessive padding along with it. I couldn’t bring myself to play through this a second time so I called it quits. Hopefully they address this in the remaster
@richardgurney1844 Жыл бұрын
Exact same I played Skyward Sword when it came out and LOVED it! ...and then a year or so later when I replayed it, it was kinda boring. I dragged myself through it and got to the Song of the Hero section of the game when I finally called it quits I have since tried to beat the game 2 or 3 more times since then - but I can't. Not because it's hard (hell no, it's rather easy) but because EVERYTHING is the exact same as it was last time. I wasn't doing anything slightly differently than before - because the game is so linear and limits exploration

I agree with the problems in Skyward Sword, that you presented. However, there are some more stuff in this games, which just decreased my enjoyment of Skyward Sword. The Imprisoned, and the 4 trails. The Imprisoned was a fine, challenging (I hadn't really gotten used to the motion controls yet) boss, but the electrical stamps at its last life made it to hard and annoying to hit its toes. Then in the second fight, it'll just stamp with its electrical stamps all the time! At that point I decided to jump on its head and strike its "pillar" (I don't know what to call it) down. It worked, for the most part. I would swing my Wii remote up and and then strike it down on the pillar, but my Wii remote would sometimes read my upwards swings as a strike, so that I would hit the pillar from the bottom and not the top. The third fight was like the second but just harder, and I still struggled a bit with the controls (it was first when I was hunting for the pieces of the Hero's song, that the controls started to click for me, since defeating The Imprisoned in the Boss Rush was now a cake walk)! The 4 trails are absolute trash and are much worse than the the Tears of Light hunt from Twilight Princess. In Twilight Princess could you collect the Tears in your own pace, but in Skyward Sword is it necessary to do it as fast fast as you possibly can, or else comes the guardians after you, and if they catch you, then you have to do all over again! The first trail just frustrated me so much, that I looked up a walkthrough for the remaining 3, and I still had some trouble with it! The Trials should just have been dungeons with the themes of Courage, Power and Wisdom (like the last dungeon) instead of what we got. Nintendo, if you ever make Skyward Sword HD, then cut that shit out. Skyward Sword is the worst 3D Zelda game I have played. While there are parts I really love about Skyward Sword, such as the story, characters and music, the bad just outweigh the good. Take all the negatives you presented, such as collecting the 3 stone pieces/flames/song pieces, and add the 4 trails and the 3 Imprisoned fights, then Skyward Sword just felt more like a checklist of shit I had to do, than an awesome adventure like the other Zelda games.

I can get past the motion controls--I'd prefer not to have them, but I can deal. I can even grudge through the revisiting and backtracking stuff. What keeps me from playing through this game again is the slow, unskippable text boxes, 90% of which being Fi telling you shit you already know. You can't even ignore her, because if you try to, she lets out this constant, high pitched beep that pierces your ear drums until they bleed...or you answer her. It's like when you're a kid and you continuously call out "mom" until she yells at you to SHUT THE HELL UP! (search "stewie mom" here on KZbin to know what I mean). If they give this game an HD remake, even with motion sticking around, I could easily get into it if they remove her nonsense and make all text boxes either instant scroll, or let me push a button to force it to go quicker.

I wanted the Hylian Shield but defeating the giant octopus in the Boss Rush Challenge was so annoying. Half the time I just couldn't get the swing right and it made the battle a lot more frustrating that it needed to be. That battle I think is the worst example for the motion controls.

@AlecEburhard Жыл бұрын
@@HyperCharge for the most part, but spin attacks and fatal blows are harder in hand-held mode. That’s a shame because I felt the spin attack was the best in SS. I only have a Switch Lite so I have no choice but hand-held mode. Also, to be fair, I hear the switch joycons are way better than the Wii remotes. Also toning down Fi and making the intro streamlined was a huge blessing

DID YOU KNOW? The motion controls for Skyward Sword DON'T use the sensor bar? It uses the position of the wiimote from the angle you calibrated it/re aligned it
@HyperCharge7 жыл бұрын
I'm fully aware of that, since a lot of the aiming is actually worse than the Wii version of Twilight Princess. The sensor bar controls were so pin point accurate that it's honestly a giant step down to only relying on the Gyroscope. I'm only talking about the controls regarding the combat in the video, because that's really the only frustrating part. In the grand scheme of things, having a button dedicated to re-calibrating your controller when the controls aren't working properly is ridiculous. Imagine if you had to re-calibrate an analog stick every 30 minutes because they weren't aligned properly. In that situation, most people would think that their controller is just straight up broken. The whole argument for and against the motion controls are completely two different arguments to begin with. Some people like the motion controls because they work pretty well, while others just hate motion controls regardless. That's kind of the point I tried to make during my video. I think that they work pretty well, but I hate motion controls in just about every video game I ever played. The best cases for motion controls are when they're used on the side for slightly more accuracy, like the sensor bar aiming controls in Twilight Princess, and slightly using gyroscope aiming to increase your accuracy, like Wind Waker HD or Splatoon. That's kind of my take on it.

To be fair. Link DOES live in an island on the sky where everything is perfect and all that shit. He's lived up there his whole life, so how the fuck is he supposed to know what Desserts, forests, and volcanoes are?
@HyperCharge7 жыл бұрын
It's not like it's a super big deal, but it just annoys you the longer you play the game. Whenever Fi pops out of Link's sword and tell you something, all I can think is, "Did she really need to say that?". Most of the time the answer is no. Link from Ocarina of Time never set foot outside of Kokiri Forest either and Navi never bothers you about the small details you could just pick up by yourself.
@thedeadlyune7 жыл бұрын
HyperCharge That's true. If Fi had an actual personality in the game, I may have enjoyed that bit of dialogue. If you've played Phantom Hourglass, I enjoyed how Celia or Linebeck always had some kind of output or opinion on a lot of things. Fi doesn't do this. She acts more like a computer, which was likely intended.
@HyperCharge7 жыл бұрын
You kind of have to think about what the whole reason the companions are in the game in the first place. The main reason they exist is to help the player out whenever they get stuck or don't remember what their suppose to do. Some of the best companions in Zelda are usually the ones with the least amount of screen time, who usually interrupt the game the least. The King of Red Lions from the Wind Waker is a bit boring when compared to Midna from Twilight Princess, but he actually does a better job at guiding the player with the least amount of dialogue.

The song of the hero was probably the worst part of the game. I actually liked almost everything before that - the areas were kind of like mini-dungeons and the actual dungeons were pretty cool. The time ship dungeon and ancient cistern were pretty awesome. But that song of the hero... it completely drags down the game. I can even forgive the bloated tutorial, but the Song of the Hero should have been cut. Collecting the notes or recollecting your items was the biggest bullshit.
