All NASCAR fans know Jimmie Johnson as the definitive driver when talking about dominance. Most NASCAR fans immediately think of his 5 straight championships from 2006 to 2010. But what many don’t know or remember is that Jimmie Johnson was close to starting his streak the year before in 2005.

The chase format is at least better than the playoff format. With the chase, you still needed to be consistent all year while now, you just to win and you're in.
@chadbrisco4042
@chadbrisco4042 Жыл бұрын
@Glenn Cross or we can stick with the playoff rounds since it's fun to see people eliminated every three weeks but tweak it so that it's more consistency based during the regular season. Take the win and your in thing out. The 16 most consistent drivers make the playoffs and then they get eliminated. I think that would be better.

I have no problem with JJ as a person, and he’s a hell of a driver... problem is he is a product of Brian France’s horrible reign in NASCAR. Basically he won 7 due to a VERY broken and stupid system. Shame because he he had the 3 he deserves in 2006, 2009, and 2013... chances are he’d be loved as much as Jeff, Dale, and Richard.

I honestly hate the argument that *“Jimmie should only have 2 or 3 championships”* or *“Jimmie’s 7 are illegitimate because of the Chase.”* The 48 team played the system right, they got rewarded. 7 times. Under two different formats. For the argument saying Jimmie should only have 2-4 championships, had this been Winston style points, I can see your point as mathematically, he wouldn’t have won them in that format. But it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have gotten 7. Like I said, the 48 team played according to the points format, so there’s no doubt in my mind that they would have done the same in the old points system, too.

Honestly, the whole thing is similar to Denny's choke jobs and can be simplified to "What if Jimmie pitted at Homestead?" because that's what killed it with an incredible opportunity. One terrible choice. Chad choked that easy decision away with Tony running poorly and so many laps to go. I forget how long that run was but it was the obvious decision from what I remember. I want to say, from that monumental point forward, they found the horseshoe for the next 5 years.
@TheIceberg

Knaus definitely shit the bed with that call. To think that using common sense could’ve got them 6 in a row is mind boggling. Based on where Stewart finished I believe Johnson would either have to win or finish second to win it all. While difficult if there was any other driver to do it it’d be him. I remember being 7 and feeling like it took a lot of the fun out of the race when he crashed, at least all the fun until the finish at least.
@dennyhamlinfan1148
@dennyhamlinfan1148 5 жыл бұрын
Rusty Walrus Denny’s loss still hurts. Denny’s team made horrible errors from Phoenix-Homestead 2010. They had won the previous week’s playoff race at Texas to take the points lead, so they were riding high. Denny led 180 laps at Phoenix, but Mike Ford made a crucial fuel mileage error causing them to finish 12th. Had Denny won that race, it would’ve locked up the championship going into Homestead, and it would’ve been his 9th win. Denny was furious and I think the disappointment of not locking up the championship threw him off his game going into Homestead. Then, to make things worse, they have a poor qualifying effort at Homestead. Denny quickly made his way up through the field, so it looked like he’d contend. Then, inexplicably, he made a judgement error and just spun himself out. The splitter damage from that finished off his title hopes, I can’t believe Denny made such a silly mistake

I’ve met Jimmie 4 times and I swear it seems like the man gets nicer and more considerate of how I am each time. I’ve never heard anyone who’s met him say anything bad about him. The first time I met him I was 12 and a bumbling mess. He was on his golf cart and stopped for me and I couldn’t find what I wanted in my bag for him to sign. His wife was telling him he was gonna be late and to come back later but he stayed anyways and shook my hand. I will always remember that, it showed me how good of a man he is.

@@TheIceberg That is awesome man! You know I go to Chicagoland too, I live in Central Wisconsin. I used to live in Bolingbrook when I was a kid. Did you meet him all 4 of those times at Joliet? I have bought a pit pass for Chicago in 2014 and 2015 and was a bit disappointed with how lack luster it was to be able to do anything as far as getting closer to the cars. They let us walk behind them with a rope cutting off access in the grass by the concert area. I see you usually camp there so I would guess that's how you got to meet JJ on his golf cart? My Mom moved to Daytona and my wife and I went to our first 500 this year, there was a Jeff Gordon meet and greet for the 500 I think you got to meet William Byron as well.. not 100% sure but it was $800! I said to hell with that no matter how much I love Jeff Gordon, Chase Elliott, and Jimmie I would never fork out that kind of money. So I am super curious how you lucked out to meet someone like Jimmie without paying through the nose.

Man you have GOT to do Dale Earnhardt 1989 & 1995... Dale Sr lost the 89 & 95 Winston Cups by a combined 46pts, 12 in 89, 34 in 95. Incidents that cost him: in 89 he was leading at North Wilkesboro on the final lap when Ricky Rudd attempted to make a last lap pass that resulted in both cars being spun out & Geoff Bodiine winning. Instead of winning or finishing 2nd Earnhardt was 10th. In 1995 he was leading at Talladega late in the Winston 500 when Mark Martin & Jeff Gordon went by him with only a few laps left, while in third on the final lap he was spun out by Morgan Shepherd and finished 21st. Two unfortunate incidents if not for those Earnhardt would have 9 Winston Cups...

I think the Chase and Brian France combined made JJ someone who should have been good for NASCAR to someone who people can’t wait for him to go away. I was ready to like him too... once Jeff Gordon got robbed in 2007 not because he faltered, but because the system allowed others to catch up, that was when JJ started to become a not so favorite outside his fan base. While Jeff Gordon and Richard Petty got huge farewell tours... JJ is going to have a good riddance tour.

I know but the point of this isn’t who won without the Chase. I did a video about that years ago. Missing Rings is more about missed opportunities. For instance the 1998 Minnesota Vikings didn’t even make the Super Bowl but they had a missed opportunity. Hence a missing ring.

RC RACER 88 Chase doesn't help much. You still have to beat the other 9, 11, or 15 drivers. Why can people not get that through their brains. Just because the Chase exists, it doesn't just give a driver the championship.

Johnson and Dale Jr done more harm for the sport than any good they could have done...prove me wrong. Dale Jr, most popular driver, but a glorified mid packer that nascar relied on to help their product. Jr sucked. He should have retired in 2005, he would have been better off. Johnson is nothing more than a yes man with a personality of a rock. It was like a gift from god when jr won a race and johnson was caught cheating more often than New England with a camera and an air pressure gauge.

Everyone who won championships from 2004-2018 deserve them and they just have to accept that

Stewart wasnt going to win even if he let Stewart by. If Busch and Jr couldn't get to Jeff, what makes you think Stewart was behind all 3 of them. Tony Stewart is a choke artist when it comes to the Daytona 500. One of the greatest drivers ever and a top 10 NASCAR driver ever but he had numerous chances (04,05,06,07,08) to win.
