This is how I see the story in this game: The ship you are currently on had the ruse of being an allied forces ship although in reality this was not the case. It actually belonged to some organisation that the allied forces or at least the leaders of the countries at the time created. I’m guessing this because of regiments that weren’t logged and unfamiliar badges are found on board. Judging by the documents found and the actual containment area of the siren itself it seems to have worked similarly to the SCP foundation in forms of functionality. The sirens containment are consisted of two or three cubes two being a metal grid and the innermost one being the glass aquarium filled with water and the sound proofing minimising the effects of the sirens song on the crew. A German submarine comes across the allied boat and being in a war and all launches missiles into the boat, sinking it. Either upon impact of the attack or when the boat hit the oceans floor the sirens cage was damaged enough for it to escape and swim around the now flooding boat. I can only guess the reasons for the suicide of the captain and some of the crew but I’m going to say it’s an effect that the sirens song had on them after prolonged hearing as it’s song echoed through the vents. Now here’s where I delve into hypotheticals so bear with me, I think that the allied forces planned to weaponise the siren or at least it’s song (recording equipment can be found in the soundproofed room). If I’m right about why the captain and crew killed themselves then this would’ve been a weapon of mass destruction. The Germans are informed about a possible super weapon one way or another and make it a top priority to either stop it or find a way to use it. Upon sinking the boat that they believe held information about this super weapon they send a man down to investigate where the sirens song got to his mind and had him stuck in the same room that you look around in multiple times, key difference between him and us is that he was found by the siren in time, our characters will was stronger or we hadn’t been affected by the song enough to get trapped in the room long enough for the siren to swing past. After the diver does not return the Germans assume that either the ships too unstable to search or that the weapon on board had become active and decide not to mark down the wreckage under fear of what kind of weapon could kill a diver in a sunken ship. Anyway that’s what I believed happened. Also sorry for poor grammar or anything it’s late. Goodnight.

There was a commenter that already stated that this type of eel is not venomous. However it's bite is still very dangerous since it could tear and rip into arteries and ligaments if you're not careful. There was a swimmer that actually died because of a Moray Eel. It was a Giant Moray Eel and it bit into his calf so far that it bit into his major artery he swam to the shore and bled out on the beach. It was super sad to hear about. Though it's rare for divers to be killed by Moray Eels it's not entirely impossible. More likely then not though you'll swim away with a major injury of some kind if attacked by one. Many divers and swimmers lose fingers for not being careful around wild dangerous Moray Eels. It's highly likely and possible to die to one, especially if they get you in the right place.

So, from what I can figure from watching... the vessel is a WW2 era French civilian vessel that was used by the Allies and modified to transport a Siren, to be used as a 'weapon' in the War. Some point she got out and the vessel eventually sank. The hanging bodies are...well...probably where the more senior crew and officers took their own lives rather than lose themselves. The various divers are probably from the years where both sides tried to find the vessel and the 'weapon'. That's my guess at the lore at least.

If the devs are reading, please keep going with this game! It's a great story idea, and the environments are gorgeous. One small suggestion I have is that when the room/corridor names pop up and float on the screen, it does feel like it breaks the immersion a little bit, so I would say maybe put the room labels on actual signs/walls as part of the environment if possible? But that's really the only thing, would love to see more!

Ive been scuba diving several times and I learned that my thalassophobia doesnt kick in until night time. Night dives are, in my experience, horrifying. All you see is the darkest dark in front of you. Your flashlight beam only seems to reach 3 ft infront of you before disappearing into the void. Since I couldnt see anything I got hyper focused on the sound of my breathing.

I have Thalassophobia too. It's not so much what is in the ocean, but what isn't. The vast empty planes and trenches, with nothing but the sea floor or the occasional nightmarish massive crawl of uncountable numbers of crabs and sea worms, and the sudden enormously violent movements of the sea floor and ice (see The Bloop), and massive violent underwater eruptions. It's like an agoraphobic abyss with colossal movements and events that could kill you in an instant. I don't even find sharks scary.

Im fine swimming in deep water as long as its clear but if its all cloudy and i cant see the bottom then it's freaky

I'm kind of in the middle. I love the ocean and swimming, and I love learning about ocean, lake, and river life.☺️💖 Yet on the other hand I don't like things touching me, if I can't see the bottom I get nervous and tend to overthink, and I don't like to swim in difficult wavy waters.😨 I would love to go diving one day, yet I'm also really scared to. I want to see and encounter sea life, yet I'm also afraid of what I may encounter. I'm stuck with polar opposing wants and desires. I want to Scuba Dive, however I'm also afraid I can't or won't be able to successfully. I like swimming, but sea weed or lake weed is my worst enemy. I hate having the feeling of something tangling around my legs or grabbing me forcing me down to the depths. Just spooky thinking about it.

if you actually do experience sleep paralysis often, it should help if you: 1: don't sleep on your back, sleeping on your sides keeps you more aware of your surroundings when sleeping. 2: music or white noise will keep your brain occupied so it struggles to halucinate. 3: read something before bed, your brain will be too busy with trying to imagaine what you were reading earlier to try and scare you. 4: drink water, sounds stupid, but it helps you keep your head healthy and focused. and 5: just as you said, try to avoid scary things if you can't handle them well. but if you have to, watchin it in the middle of the day. Early in the mornign puts an impression on you and late in the evening is too fresh in memory. sleep tight.

1:14 i do in fact have thalassophobia seeing as i cant even get close to the ocean on the beach but for some odd reason i feel very intrigued by the ocean in a strage way, watching these videos and playing these types of games makes me feel some sort of weird yet fascinating emotion close to a connection between sheer fear and amusement so yeah that's basically why im watching this video, also i love the channel and the commentary, it's one of the many reasons i played through subnautica actually and i have to thank this channel for that cuz even if i was terrified constantly it was still one of the best games i've ever played and i genuinely had fun with the survival aspect of the game

I know I'm a year late, but I'm sharing anyway. I have thalassophobia, but I was also certified in scuba diving at age 12. I learned how to deal with that fear when I was diving regularly, but after diving a shipwreck at night (dumbest thing I've ever done), those fear have gotten way worse. The weird thing is I kind of love it. My favorite stories/games/movies are ones that trigger it and megalophobia at the same time. So as you can imagine, I love SCPs, Subnautica, kaiju, and Lovecraftian works. Your channel is perfect for me lol

You should play Sign of Silence with Icy again click view more if ya want some spoilers/tips -the game is now MASSIVELY voice activated -you have to crouch everywhere unless you want to be super risky -when you get eaten by the underground digger guy, it um, just use the dead person as a scout, you'll see what I mean -the tiny sprouters run super fast so if you're found, most likely no escape -there are various weapons to kill cultists who will throw stuff at you -there are totems that you can light to get extra lives -there are syringes that allow you to revive someone that has every body part intact
