Maverick's, in Half Moon Bay, California, is one of the surfing's most menacing and dangerous big waves. This edit shows exactly why.

Thank you from not using loud, hard rock, so-called surf music. I have surfed all my life, and whenever I watched surf video, I found loud music distracting. This is on point. I am stoked.

Frosted your right bro i said same thing just beautiful footage and stupid rock/alternative music gives the surfing world a certain image that us surfers are punks when alot of us listen to different music and have more peacful attitudes to life!! This is the best video ive seen with surfing it gives a real insight to the spiritual side of riding a board on waves!! 😊✌💙

Finally got to Mavericks for the first time in my life this past July...there were absolutely NO swells but just being there and seeing the local monuments to the surfers who'd passed on and to those who continue to challenge these great waves was a huge moment for me. I hope to return one day to see the legendary 30-40 foot swells...until then, it's videos like this that bring the beauty of this place out.

Fantastic video...the magnificent waves of Maverick's! -- and for me, the piano music was perfect! The very last ride, where the surfer *just* avoids pearling and then falls to his butt and then rides it out sitting down on his board with his fist in the air -- I'd be cheering too, if I hadn't wiped out on that monster! -- was a perfect ending shot. Bravo!

yes it sure is nasty!!! it has happened to me several times---NOT AT MAVS!! and still, almost that big!! It really tests your breath saving skills because you are under water already and then get dragged and stretched and beaten up and then maybe a quick breath before the next whitewater hit. JUST GO RIGHT TO YOUR LEASH!!! THEN TAKE CONTROL OF IT AND GO UP TOWARDS YOUR BOARD
@goingoffgrid2849
@goingoffgrid2849 7 жыл бұрын
Almost that big eh?? And you pull on your leash to surface? hahaha I live in HB and have surfed everywhere from the Ranch to Tiajuana sloughs for the last 30 years..... I usually just swim up since your so deep(& ears popping) you can feel which way the leash is pulling. But hey whatever works for you.... maybe a pfd would help if you go that big?

I actually, joyfully cried watching that. Absolutely brilliant! In the early 2000s I played in those waters, rock gardening in my kayak, and although surfing was my true love and “reasoning” at the time, I was never brave enough or close to being good enough to venture out there in that giant green magic and terrifying swell.

You guys are certifiably nuts in the best of ways, and I'm stoked I get to watch what you do. I find it hilarious how little the general public knows in regards to how dangerous big wave surfing is, like you're just surfing on a glass of water, not a malleable, 3 story high pond that's basically working with gravity and inertia to kill you if you make one wrong move.
