My grandfather once picked up Aileen during her killing spree while she was hitchhiking. No one even knew until her face was all over the news. He lived to be 64 and sadly passed in 2016. But it's still a pretty cool story to know.

A lot of different murderers have been suspected of being Jack The Ripper. There was one man (I forget his name) who was convicted of several murders and sentenced to death by hanging. The story goes that as the killer was falling through the trapdoor of the gallows with the noose around his neck, he called out, "I am Jack The --," but the rope cut off his voice before he could finish his statement. It seemed like he was trying to say "I am Jack The Ripper," but some crime historians dispute this idea, claiming that he wasn't even in London at the time of most of the "Ripper" murders, which didn't fit the M.O. of the homicides he did commit.

I read that H.H. Holmes's last words were that he only killed two people, and then, he was about to say something that seemed to implicate a woman named Minnie (the wife of one of his victims, I think) in his crimes, when the executioner sprun the trap, and Holmes was hanged before he could finish what he was going to say, the noose cutting him off in mid-sentence. In case you're wondering, my source was a book entitled "Bloodletters And Badmen," by Jay Robert Nash, a noted crime historian. It was written in 1973.
