I went on a ghost tour while visiting Key West years ago and the tour ended with a visit to the museum to see Robert. The museum is not what you think. It’s located on an old military fort so it has a real dungeon like feel. He’s now positioned staring at old war memorabilia behind an iron gate. The whole museum is legit spooky. Only compounded by the fact that we went there around midnight.

I went to visit Key West back in December 2018. While I was there, I saw Robert, and asked if I could take a picture of him, but in the back of mind, I still wondered what kind of stuff could happen? Well on my way back up to Miami, I hit a deer with my rental car on HWY 1. Yes, it came out of nowhere! The head went one way, the body went another, and there were blood and guts everywhere. I totaled the car, but luckily I got the insurance with it. I feel like that was Robert's way of saying "this is what could happen".

As a result I met my wife who let me stay with her and helped me get back to my army base. We now have two kids, are happily married, and are expecting a third child in December. I'm the same. This is the first time I've heard it was made in Germany. The version I always heard made it sound as if it was handmade. However, I did some digging and evidently the museum researched his origins. He is indeed from the German company, but was never meant to be a child's toy. It was part of a line of jester and clown figures that were for store window displays. The sailor suit is assumed to be one of Gene's outfits, since the company did not make it.

As a former key west local, growing up with the story of the Otto’s and driving past the artist house and seeing the turret that still there is so special, and having been in Robert’s presence since I was a little girl, I feel comfortable saying I don’t feel that his presence is evil, I think he’s simply a child’s soul that is lost and scared and angry. It seems like robert, due to his experience being so scary, is actually just a normal doll, but is blamed for other things. Young Otto must have been mentally unstable, and all the other reports must have been the witness' own paranoia. It is a very common occurence that we start blaming things as cursed and such, when they look scary. Otto must have done something and then forgotten it all, and the mental instability explains otto's obsession with robert when he grew up
