Elena de Hoyos continuously rejected Tanzler and wasn't interested in him. Her family only entertained him out of desperation because he had lied he was an actual doctor who could cure her, ultimately dooming her faster. She had made it clear before her death that she didn't love him and what he did was in total disregard for her feelings. I've been to Centralia just recently as a covid adventure and the township hated the attention it received so they actually covered up most of where the fires are and you have to go very out of the way to get there. There are a couple graveyards that the fires are underneath that attach to the main roads but nothing serious

The scariest thing about Centralia is that it's not the only place where coal mines are burning & can't be stopped. There's over 100 coal-seam fires in the US alone (including one here in Ohio, New Straitsville, which is endangering the Wayne National Forest), and that's an extremely conservative estimate -- Pennsylvania alone has 45 known coal-seam fires. Around the world, there's *thousands* of ongoing fires, with no means to put them out. BTW, Centralia is no longer "urban" by any defintion. There's only a couple houses left. And Silent Hill is a video game franchise; the horror movies were based on the games.

The Centralia fire is a great tragedy. Some of best existing coal deposit, set involuntarily on fire by miners. The city council, the fire department and others tried everything to stop the spread of underground fire, but... no.
