A few months after I got out of the army. I was invited to a Gala in Las Vegas 2013 where I was lucky enough to meet Tom Norris and his friend Mike Thornton i was lucky enough to hold both of their medal of honors. Both great men very down-to-earth. There were a lot of Medal of Honor recipients at that Gala and I got to spend about a week hanging out with some of the coolest people on the planet

They are recipients not winners of the Medal of Honor. But it's cool you got to hold them. I have met a few Medal of Honor recipients in my time in and they are the humblest (not sure if I spelled that right) men.

yeah when you're working with stuff in airplanes (i can kinda confirm i play dcs, a very realistic flight sim) you often think like "oh thats just 20 miles away, ill be there in a minute or 2". but when you're suddenly wounded on the ground, i can imagine that its quite humbling to have such difficult reaching even 50 meters.

People sadly ask why so many soldiers would risk their lives to rescue one or two men trapped behind enemy lines. I can only imagine what would keep a person from doing everything they're capable of to save them, and didn't know any soldiers that didn't feel the same way.

@@bobthegoat7090 if that man had a kid at home, I wouldn't think twice about it. Even if they didn't we still went wheels up as soon as the briefings finished and issued equipment. That's the difference between then and now, there's more training and less "let's see what happens"...Ma Deuce, mini guns, and the best pilots in MH-60s doesn't hurt tho.

you also have to remember if it’s a high ranking officer who knows things the government doesn’t want our enemies knowing… if they don’t trust them to keep quiet forever they’ll want to get them out of there before they break. but that is a pretty specific scenario

Not all of the one's that died were SEAL's, in fact there were 3 SEAL operators still left in Vietnam at the time it happened, most of them were other service personnel..

You have to do a video on Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon. Both were US Special Forces Soldiers who Volunteered to go in to certain death to rescue a downed piolt. Both died, but the piolt lived.

When they did this, the Somali attackers were so impressed with the warrior like honor exhibited by the “pilot”. They didn’t realize the pilot was not one of his two fallen comrades whom held off so many They also were repeatedly denied permission to land. Commanders finally relented knowing they would disobey orders if they weren’t granted.

It's hard to say these men were worth loosing to save this man. I doubt anyone would really say that. But many brave men are willing to risk there lives to rescue 1 man. That's because all of our fighting men and women are very important, And in my opinion worth dying for. I'm guessing if your doing dangerous missions in witch you can be killed, just knowing that if possible you will be rescued makes all or a big difference in what your willing to do. I was going to make the same comment, but figured someone beat me to it. Also they did show A-1s and the B-52’s appear to be the wrong model for the era. The Airforce flew B-52F’s in Vietnam. Those looked like the more current B-52H’s in the animation.
