What's so crazy about Simo Hayha is that he never used a scope unlike most of the other entries on this list did. He used strictly iron sights. He did this to avoid fogging up the scope lenses and to avoid the glint giving away his position.

I met Simo Häyhä once. We talked.. not about the war, as he was like my both grandfathers, who did not talk about war. I naturally knew who he was, injury was a giveaway and all knew of him. He did say the same thing as my grandfathers... "pray that you never have to experience war"
@alcoholfree6381

My father was an 19 year old bombardier in WW2 B-17; he flew 24 missions from D-Day to the Battle of the Bulge, shot down on 24 Dec. 1944. He would never talk about the war until he was 90; he then described a few of his experiences. I asked him his most important lessons he learned from his experiences: “Man is amazingly capable of adapting to any situation.” “It always amazed me how inhumane and savage men can be!” He too felt war was horrible and should be avoided.
@samy7013

I believe that soldiers who refuse to speak about their experience of war, are either selfish, cowardly, or have a twisted moral compass. No one is asking soldiers to boast, but they have a duty to speak as truthful witnesses to what they have experienced.

@@samy7013 im sorry but you have clearly never had a single traumatic experience in your entire life or you would know the pain of reliving those memories and the fact that you feel entitled to their experience while calling those that refuse to share the most painful memories of their life selfish cowardly or twisted clearly shows a distinct lack of empathy

I never once went hunting before becoming one. Actually I was never interested in being one. I just wanted to jump out of planes lol. I was just in the right place at the right time when I met General Schwarzkopf and he basically talked this 19yr old into trying it out. Only 2 things I had to compare to sniping was playing space invaders and POI on the mother ship that came across the top of the screen ever so often. My second training, although I didn't give the military any thought at the time was playing CO2 war in the woods. I was in Jr, and I hung out with high schoolers, particularly a family with all boys (6 brothers) 2 of the brothers were military, Rick and John. Rick was a Ranger with mad skills and when he'd come home (which wasn't often), we all went to the woods and shot at each with CO2 guns. Rick taught me ALOT especially about being deadly, but not seen or heard. So that's my little story of my experience prior to ghilling up.

I'm actually surprised Carlos Hathcock didnt make the list but if I recall correctly he had 93 confirmed kills. I dont think anyone on this list scored under a hundred

He was more of a quality over quantity type, simo fought against the russian military who wore dark green uniforms in the snow and didn't know what logistics was, carlos hathcock went against the top snipers of the vc, one of the most deadly guerilla armies in history.

And just think about that fact Simo Häyhä got injured in the end of winter war and never came back to fight against russians (he wanted but he never made he's way there) But just think how much bigger the number of his kills could be if he never got injured... (The war between soviet union and Finland ended on 1945 and Häyhä got injured on 1940)
