What's so crazy about Simo Hayha is that he never used a scope unlike most of the other entries on this list did. He used strictly iron sights. He did this to avoid fogging up the scope lenses and to avoid the glint giving away his position.

My father was an 19 year old bombardier in WW2 B-17; he flew 24 missions from D-Day to the Battle of the Bulge, shot down on 24 Dec. 1944. He would never talk about the war until he was 90; he then described a few of his experiences. I asked him his most important lessons he learned from his experiences: “Man is amazingly capable of adapting to any situation.” “It always amazed me how inhumane and savage men can be!” He too felt war was horrible and should be avoided.

I never once went hunting before becoming one. Actually I was never interested in being one. I just wanted to jump out of planes lol. I was just in the right place at the right time when I met General Schwarzkopf and he basically talked this 19yr old into trying it out. Only 2 things I had to compare to sniping was playing space invaders and POI on the mother ship that came across the top of the screen ever so often. My second training, although I didn't give the military any thought at the time was playing CO2 war in the woods. I was in Jr, and I hung out with high schoolers, particularly a family with all boys (6 brothers) 2 of the brothers were military, Rick and John. Rick was a Ranger with mad skills and when he'd come home (which wasn't often), we all went to the woods and shot at each with CO2 guns. Rick taught me ALOT especially about being deadly, but not seen or heard. So that's my little story of my experience prior to ghilling up.
