I know that it wasn’t intentional, but you gotta love the line “mostly seen in pregnant women, ‘and people with other mental disorders’” … I know it wasn’t intended to be phrased this way, but the irony. I think any woman who has ever been pregnant would also agree that it’s something along the lines of a temporary sort of mental disorder. Trust me, I speak from experience. 😂

I’m actually diagnosed with pica (ever since I was 8 years old). My psych thinks it’s due to my ASD and ADHD (also with my depression, BPD, anxiety and OCD dendencies). I pull out my eyelashes and eat them- a lot of the time I don’t even notice I’m doing it! But with the help of therapy and medications I’m doing it less and less! Also I guess I’m incredibly lucky my eyelashes grow much faster than the usual persons (so I’ve never had the issues of eyelid baldness).

I have a stuffed frog that my best friend gave to me before she passed away. His name is Bibbit and he comes in my bag with me everywhere I go. It’s actually very common for people who have Borderline Personality Disorder to become more attached to a stuffed animal than actual people. I also have shelves full of stuffed frogs that I keep buying, especially from flea markets because that means they probably used to belong to someone. I still see it as a sort of remembrance ritual, but I also recognize that I probably have way too many frogs.

My ex husband would eat his finger and toenails. He said when he was young and his parents were going through divorce it was really tough for his mom, they'd (very rarely) go hungry for dinner. It grew from there. 20 years later he'd stash his "bitings" in places he'd think I would not find cleaning. Hopefully for his sake and teeth he's dealt with that.

My dad would work 7am til 10pm. To me that was avoiding family and causing heart attacks. He had x4 heart bypass surgury at 33. My brother can do the same thing our dad did too. I worked so hard in renovations, construction, heavy duty cleaning etc I started my own business at age 21. We also grew up on a farm, me and my 4 older brothers started picking rocks moving boulders when we were 5 my dad made us work man. Now I'm 30 now and cannot work at all, no lifting, less bending because Progessing scoliosis, bad discs, lots of spine, bone and muscle issues. High blood pressure and was told to watch my stress on my first heart monitoring test. 😬 the way you grow up definitely can effect so many things in the your future. I have several addictions myself, food being the biggest one (I lost 100 lbs though!) I still have my baby blanket from 1990, but as it’s falling apart it stays safe in one spot. I do carry my blue pillow around HOWEVER that’s only in the house & only to put it in whatever room I’ll be in (except the bathroom/kitchen). Since I was a kid I always had 1 pillow with a dark blue pillow case, that hasn’t changed. I have comfort objects but with help they’re not too obvious (I used to carry a toy frog in my pocket) I am autistic so I don’t much like change so the few things that don’t change the better I feel.

I was addicted to my asthma inhaler as a child, it was pretty nasty addiction, because I need it to live and yet I had to limit my intake. That's in the past now, but watching this i started to worry about my cleaning habits and book collection. Considering I bought myself 15 books only for Christmas and I've spent all present money I got and all I had prepared for my selftreat only for books, I think I might be having a problem in the future. 🤔

@@jacquihesher5424 that's how I am, I don't find it extremely pleasant or unpleasant - unless it's overwhelming strong, then it makes me sick, but I don't mind the smell of pulling into a gas station with the windows down

My mother in law gave my son a small plaid pillow when he was 2. He still has and sleeps with that pillow. He is now 21. He says it makes him feel like she is with him still. He's not hurting anyone and it makes him feel closer to his grandmother.

Sniffing, or “huffing” fumes from chemicals like gasoline is very dangerous. I remember hearing about a kid in my college who suddenly dropped dead due to the side effects of sniffing chemicals.

The sad thing is the addictions usually come from a form of abuse or trauma that they had growing up that they never got help getting over. Which is why they cope with doing something that is considered bizarre or strange.

I have PICA to some extent (I also was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD). As you know, many autistic people love certain textures. Mine is rubber (don't ask why I don't even know myself lol). In 5th grade, I almost choked on an eraser. I'm trying to not do it, but it is not that easy. I'm also chewing ice (again trying not to do it due to teeth problems and sensitivity). Also, I don't understand how carrying comfort items or believing objects are real (not to the point of developing a romantic relationship with them ofc) as I've been doing this since I am young.🤷‍♀️
