A great Jazz cat, Nathan Davis! My favorite of his is the 1976 album “IF”. Very funky Jazz. He plays tenor, soprano, alto and flute! A little bit obscure record but Killer! 2009 reissue is of good quality, although the exact source of mastering isn’t stated.. Try find it on KZbin.

@The 'In' Groove Yes thats what made me think it obvious too, but technically speaking, it could be read as "Super-cut, Analogue disk". Meaning its just a super cut of sorts and that the disc is analog, which all records are even if from digital. Sort of like when they say "sourced from master tape", which does not mean its cut from the tape necessarily. I investigated the possibility of it being a tape copy as well, measuring the DB range of my original pressings vs these new, but they both came out identical, meaning that either the tape really was shipped, or just a digital transfer of the tapes was used. Because as far as I know, tape generations always lose a little bit of dynamics each time and can easily detect it on other reissues not using original masters. Another point is that there were actually 2 boxes, one in 2008 by another company, but cut at ATM by KG. So for them to ship the master tape over 2 times seems yet more unlikely, but still possible I suppose. Personally if that were the case I would advertise it like crazy with hype stickers and booklet data like with other AAA pressings. But again, its still possible that it is AAA.

So I recently placed a couple orders on the "In Groove" website. I actually purchased the 45 RPM Analog Productions issue of Time Out featured in this video, among other Jazz titles (all amazing). I feel it's really important to support small businesses during this difficult time we find ourselves in. Mike, if you see this, thank you so much for the wonderful quality records, and the care you took in packaging and shipping. The records arrived in perfect shape and are really helping me get through this quarantine. If you're hesitating on your "In-Groove" shopping cart, pull the trigger!

How are the transfers being done for "new" vinyl? I've read they're using digital remasters to create new LPs because the original analog masters have degraded too much. Thanks.
@leon90214 жыл бұрын
What a coincidence, I just got the Three Blind Mice 45 Box Set actually. But truth be told I dont actually think these were AAA cuts. Comparing with my originals was fun, keeping both in the end. The only nitpick I have with the Impex reissue is that Kevin cut the drums a little too hot on certain tracks. But considering the difficulty of getting tapes shipped over seas, and the fact that there is no advertisement for it being AAA, leads me to believe its digitally sourced from the masters. I asked Kevin myself, he doesnt recall and even if he did he couldnt disclose the source used.
@TheInGroove4 жыл бұрын
It reads "Super-Cut Analogue Disk" on the top of the jacket. Seams ballsy to cut it digital and print that on the top of the jacket. Also Tapes get shipped over seas all the time. Also possible they ran a 30ips copy and Kevin cut from that. Speakers corner does it all the time and anybody that sez they can hear the difference after its cut to vinyl is full of shit.

I see several of these mofi releases also have SACD issues. How would you say SACD compares to the AAA vinyls? If played through a good system with proper equipment is the difference that noticeable? Or is it really down to a preference to the sound?

why? some of these pressings approach the fidelity of 15 and 30 ips tape. $55 will seem like a gift when you compare it against the cost of similar tape dubs.

Crazy prayingmantis Not a fan of Jazz or these particular titles?
@crazyprayingmantis55964 жыл бұрын
@@JamboLinnman I love Jazz, but I don't love all Jazz. Most of these are very common titles and the original pressings sound fantastic, you'd have to seriously screw something up big time to make these albums sound bad, so I don't understand why anyone would pay these prices. I went through a phase where I would buy albums just because of the sound quality, I eventually slapped myself across the head and started buying music I liked no matter how it sounded. It's easy to fall into the trap especially if you've just put a nice system together.

Great video. Just getting into Jazz so it’s good to have a few pointers. Just one question about the Marvin Gaye One Step that you mentioned. With the album being on 45’s and some of the track transitions being seamless, is the flow of the album hindered by the amount of “side changing”? I just wondered if you found this as a valid criticism or does the sound quality push this aside this as a minor inconvenience? BTW, I come from the POV of never hearing a One Step and having only one MoFi pressing (Curtis Mayfield).
