My issue with the story of this game is that it's hard to imagine this world as worth saving. Essentially everyone we meet is a member of this dead kingdom. So by the time we get to the end it feels as if the only thing we really accomplished was freeing the original Lily. That said, it was a fun game and the lore in the findings was nice.

I've always felt the same way about dark souls. What are we even fighting to save? The world is depressing.
@28OntheRise3 жыл бұрын
@@dorianamoson4924 I can see how it would give a similar feeling. For dark souls I'll say that dark souls at least lets you see living people (or at least undead people with their own will) whether enemy or ally. Also, it's a game about cycles, they make you question the purpose going in and it's never famed as a happy ending, just an ending where things continue. I'd also say that, we do know that there are actual times where things thrive in souls, it's just we never experience them because there's no point in our character being present at the good end of the cycle. In ender lilies, it's presented as happy, but the game didn't show who the good would impact (our two living characters aside) so it feels hollow.

@@28OntheRise The story implies that there is a world outside in Ending A, if leave as it is the Blight will expand eventually. Really Ender Lilies isn't an happy game by any means, the blight doesn't simply kill people it corrupt them and basically entrap their souls in eternal suffering, the kingdom is already doomed and in the end what you accomplish is by purging the blight you free all the souls that where trap by it, you didn't save them, it was to late for that, but at least you give their souls the possibility to rest in peace, I also think that's why the true ending emphasis that after the final battle Lily and the Umbra Knight spend time doing a proper burial for every people that died due to the blight. And with the Blight ended life can start anew, so there is some hope in the end.

It's just if I'm picking at something that's where I was kinda just, "eh".

@Avery Lockland It's similar, but I mentioned earlier in the thread why I don't look at it the same as souls. Hollow knight, again, there's at least some living characters that we meet and who benefit from some endings. I don't recall Salt and Sanctuary's story so I wouldn't speak on that. And I'll say again, it's not as if I think the story was bad, or that it was a bad game as a result. Just that to me, it felt more hollow than these other games due to the lack of survivors and no real character interaction beyond lily and the first spirit.

4:07 Fretia - The White Priestess of the Fount - is the third white priestess. I believe the second should be Priestess of the Wind, as stated by one of the lore texts. This hints that the priestesses aren't sterile (I'm actually not sure where this is coming from); I believe Fretia has no heir simply due to her choice of wanting to have none. Or they *are* sterile, and only three white priestesses were alive after the king attacked the ancients in the Land's End 🤔
@fbcpck3 жыл бұрын
The chronological order also seems to be: - King of the First Age arrives to the Land's End and defeats the Ancients - Ancients came back attacking with the blight - Aided with purifying powers of the White Priestess of the Wind, they fended off an attack and brought some time of peace, during which the Twin Spire gets built - Faden discovers the Deathless Elixir - The blighted is back, the Immortal Knights and the White Priestess of the Fount successfully fended off the attack, bringing again some time of peace - Fretia, left severely weakened after purifying the Blighted Lord and having no heir, sent the Kingdom into panic mode; the White Priestess of the Fount is sent to the Verboten Domain to be experimented with - Clones of white priestesses were made from the White Priestess of the Fount - ??? - The kingdom is overrun by blight It is still unclear to me when the Kingdom achieved the capability to clone White Priestesses; is Fretia herself a clone of the previous white priestesses?
@davidnewcomb74663 жыл бұрын
No. There’s more evidence that she is the legitimate daughter of the previous priestess such the talk she over hears of an heir and Sylva’s shock over the cloning. It’s also important to note that priestesses were a thing among the ancients with their own hierarchy, according to the note on the deathless pact. The Umbral Knight also states that his pact was extended to the descendant of his priestess, hence why he still exists. The video also seems to skip a few generations and mistakes the recent king with the First Age King. Umbral Knight also states the blight existed before he was born, meaning before the war with lands end (which the first king implies was more the Ancients rejecting their arrival)

Damn I want continuation of her story or that universe story... So many question... Like What happen to the other nation? Are they affected by the blight too? Is the rain was happening in whole continent? Where lily gonna go next?(cause no way she will settle in the destroyed land end kingdom alone technically.. that just too depressing) If the other nation/kingdoms are safe are they gonna send expedition team to the ruins of land end kingdom? Note... We know from the king of the first age torned note that they wasnt native of the current game continent... It was the ancient's. And from silva note i forgod but it was note that told us the battle of the new twin tower?... Anyway she told us that white priestess of the faunt was purifying the blight lord... Who was the previous blight lord? Cause in that note silva witnessed how terrifying the blight lord was. Was the previous blight lord before the white priestess of the fount took the blight is white priestess before her? If i remember there is note that before fretia.. there was white priestess of the wind?.. and there are 2 kings era... The first king who came and conquered the continent(in the torned note ) and the current lore king.. who just typical greed consumed king... I think those note of the king are from different age/era but the one in the castle was from the current one... And last question... Who the culprit behind the blight? Or the rain of death... Yeah it was by the ancient.. but who specifically? (Little bit theory of mine)We know the ancient has/know necromancy magic(deathless pact note+ first age king note when the war brought out... Where the ancient warrior kept coming alive with no end) the blight/ rain of death probably was some powerful necromancy spell and from so many fantasy i read.. that kind of necromancy spell can be undo by killing the host/necromancer or purify the source... The current lore.. the source of the blight was the blighted lord... But it was a legacy kind of spell... Its transfered to a new host to continue to be activated if not purified completely... So the candidate for the first blighted lord is some kind of grand necromancer from the ancient era or the first white priestess (unlikely)... Most necromancy spell in the fantasy.. needed medium to be activated or continue to activate or feed to something else... And it doesn't need the caster themselves.. verboten domain and the abyss was probably ancient ruins that why the blight are really strong there... Its accumulated for years. But my theory guess is ... The caster of the blight was a villain of the ancient!!! Why? The kingdom was in war with the ancient and annihilated them.. but we see umbral knight and the backstory.. they didnt bear any hatred toward the kingdom... He also questioning the blight.. cause he was watching the whole time so the culprit from priestess is a no.. they arent culprit that cast the blight spell cause the ancient know necromancy and know how to deal with them but they didnt have knowledge /counter for massive spell the blight was.. there is someone else... And when war brought out between the ancient and the kingdom.. the ancient was fighting both front... Vs the kingdom and vs the blight... The reason why the ancient didnt want coexist because there blight already it just not yet come outside the ancient ruins as rain... Well that all my theory... I cant wait for dlc if they planning to add more storyline.. Btw loved your commentary on gameplay.. so subscribed to both of your channels.

Loved reading your comment! I remember someplace but can't remember in which finding that the "evil heretics" have brought in the blight or something.. So the theory being that Ancients (or the king's followers maybe !) is highly likely. But in ending C who was Lily looking at? Who was talking to her when the rain stopped? The umbral knight or the spirit of the Priestress of the Fount? I feel like there is more backstory to the umbral knight .
@jmhaugen47573 жыл бұрын
@@Kaacka26 I think it's implied that the Ancient Ones created the Umbral Knight using the Deathless Pact, as a measure to protect the White Priestesses as they went about purifying the Blight. The White Priestess of the Fount was the daughter of the last priestess working for the Ancients, and inherited the Umbral Knight as a condition of the Deathless Pact (the knights can't die until the last member of the bloodline they serve does.) When the White Priestess of the Fount fell under the corruption of the Blight and became the new Blighted Lord, the Knight was sort of stuck in limbo, since she had no natural daughters and there were too many clones. When the last clone besides Lily died, the Knight's pact took effect and he transferred to her.

I have so many questions still. Who was the person the Umbral Knight made their pact with? Was it Fretia, one of Fretia's ancestors? I believe in one of the notes of the king of the first age, it said that the first White Priestess was sterile, so they cloned her. If Fretia a clone then, and the other White Priestesses clones of the first one or clones of Fretia (clones of a clone)? In one of Silva's notes it mentions that she saw a Blighted Lord and that Fretia purified it. Who was the Blighted Lord then? Did Lillie purifying the Blighted Lord (Fretia) in turn purify all blight? If so then how does that work? Why didn't purifying the first Blighted Lord work and purify all of it? Who was the Priestess of the Wind? What did the elixer of immortality have to do with anything? It just seemed like it would just give someone the blight. In ending C, did all of the little Priestess clones come back to life to help carry the burden of Fretia's blight then die along with her? Is that why Lillie isn't in that horribly blighted state in the epilogue (not as badly blighted when fighting the final boss)? What exactly were the flowers we saw? The white and red flowers looked significant, but they had no story relevance. Why do they do what they do when you break them? How is the deathless pact for the Ancient Knights made? What is the red star looking mark on Lillie's forehead? Love this game, but man some of this is confusing and it just doesn't make sense.
@RendyArchuleta3 жыл бұрын
i think umbral knight may have been in pact with the first priest to the end, but there's only a few (because they're dieded as we took their soul) and in ending A the knight said that fretia was gathering the blight, so i think that may be why all the blighted was purified together when lily tried, priest of the wind, maybe some priest with high resistance of something, because not every clone will be perfect right? and i think every sort of immortality in this game will end up just same as blighted.
@jjwebb2323 жыл бұрын
He actually got quiet a bit of information wrong in this video, which caused some confusion. To streamline answering your questions, I'll put a reference number for the corresponding note in the response and have all the notes in another reply. "Who was the person the Umbral Knight made their pact with?" - It's not explicitly stated who the original priestess was that the Umbral Knight made their deathless pact with, however I think it's suggesting that it was the first one considering how much he actually knows. "... said the first White Priestess was sterile, so they cloned her." - I couldn't find anything suggesting this. Instead, it's suggested that the third white priestess, Fretia, didn't want to have children,[1] so they cloned her instead.[2] "In one of Silva's notes it mentions that she saw a Blighted Lord and that Fretia purified it. Who was the Blighted Lord then?" - What he says in the video isn't entirely accurate. He says that the first White Priestess, who is the Priestess of the Fount, finds a mass of blight and attempts to purify it, but the blight consumes her and transforms her into the Blighted Lord. This has a lot of information that is wrong in it. First of all, the Priestess of the Fount is the THIRD priestess,[3] not the first. It's not explicitly explained where the Blighted Lord comes from, but based on Ending C where Lily is capable of fully purifying the Blighted Lord, it is the source of the blight, which is a curse from the ancients as revenge.[4][5][6] When Fretia attempted to purify the Blighted Lord, the Aegis Curio she was wearing reached its limit and shattered.[7] Without the Aegis Curio, Fretia started to deteriorate rapidly from her purifications.[8][9] "Did Lillie (Lily) purifying the Blighted Lord (Fretia) in turn purify all blight? If so then how does that work? Why didn't purifying the first Blighted Lord work and purify all of it?" - Lily only SUCCESSFULLY purifies the Blighted Lord in Ending C, which she restores the power to the Aegis Curio and wears it, making it so the effects of purifying the Blighted Lord don't affect Lily nearly as much as Fretia. Because of this, Lily is able to FULLY purify the Blighted Lord, instead of just partially purify it as Fretia did before. The reason that Fretia failed to purify it before is because the Aegis Curio had been passed down for many generations, losing power each time a purification happened, until it finally shattered during Fretia's attempt.[9][10] Lily didn't have the problem of the Aegis Curio being weakened so much, since she had just restored it back to full power with the help of the Umbral Knight. "Who was the Priestess of the Wind?" - The Priestess of the Wind is the second White Priestess. She is the daughter of the White Priestess of the Dawn and the mother of Fretia; The Priestess of the Fount.[11] "What did the elixer of immortality have to do with anything? It just seemed like it would just give someone the blight." - The "Deathless Elixir" was something that Faden thought of as a breakthrough for immortality.[12] It didn't simply infect people with blight, but enabled them to keep their mind while they are blighted. Normally when someone is infected with blight, their mind goes away and they essentially becomes an empty shell moving on its own. The Deathless Elixir made it so warriors could have the regenerative property of the blight while still being able to control themselves and communicate with others. However, the effects of the blight still slowly drove these deathless soldiers mad.[13] They are the ones that you are able to purify and recruit as abilities. "In ending C, did all of the little Priestess clones come back to life to help carry the burden of Fretia's blight then die along with her? Is that why Lillie (Lily) isn't in that horribly blighted state in the epilogue (not as badly blighted when fighting the final boss)?" - As explained above, no. The scene you see with the young priestesses is a flashback like all the others. The reason Lily isn't in a horribly blighted state is because she had a fully restored Aegis Curio.[9][10] "What exactly were the flowers we saw? The white and red flowers looked significant, but they had no story relevance. Why do they do what they do when you break them?" - The flowers are lilies. The title is Ender Lilies. The main character is called Lily, after one of her sisters, whose name is Lily. Beyond that, there isn't really any information on them. It's possible that they are the souls of the dead White Priestesses or the souls of the Ancients, however that's just conjecture. "How is the deathless pact for the Ancient Knights made?" I can't really explain this better than the note found in the game.[14] "What is the red star looking mark on Lillie's forehead?" - It's the mark of the Deathless Pact, which is connected to her bloodline.[14]

But instead, they chose to carry out grotesque experiment on live human subjects. The white Priestess has no heir, so they dare to try to create their own. The mages who carry out these experiments, the King and Chief Guardian who approved them... They've all gone mad. Just what do they intend to do with these ersatz priestesses? Will they replace the White Priestess with one of these abominations? Note 3 - THE NEXT WHITE PRIESTESS Lady Fretia, the third White Priestess, will take up the mantle in the name of the eastern fount. Silva will make a wonderful Guardian, but the pressure of taking on the role of Priestess at such a tender age will be immeasurable. It might be better for her to stay in the catacombs or her hometown by the cliffs than spend her days in the castle. The White Priestess of the Wind wishes for us to assist the young lady any way we can. Note 4 - SORCERER'S NOTES I have been studying the texts of the Ancients, and it appears that there is the possibility of a connection between the Blight and one particular branch of their magicks. If we could decipher more of the old texts found in the Blighted Lands, we could pursue this thread further. Note 5 - THE PARISH WAY I Carriers of the curse appeared from the land of snow, bringing calamity to Land's End. Said to be the Ancient's revenge, the curse drove people to madness and transformed them into monstrosities. Carriers of the curse came to be known as the Blighted. Note 6 - FADEN'S ARCHIVES ii The Verboten Domain: a dangerous place, no doubt corrupted by the Blight., that once served as home to the Ancient sorcerers. If we can all learn more about the ancient magic responsible for the Blight's origins, I'm sure it will help the White Priestesses. It may even lead to a world devoid of the Blight affliction. Note 7 - ELEINE'S DIARY II Today, Fretia gave me the necklace she was wearing. It was a gift from her mother, and I can tell she's cherished it for a long time. It's a protective heirloom, embedded with a magic stone. The stone seems to have broken when Fretia purified the Blighted Lord. I'm sorry to say that my magic alone may not be enough to repair it. I'll have to ask that fool Faden for help. Note 8 - ELEINE'S DIARY III Our conversations were meandering today, but I got to see Fretia smile. It's been hard watching her deteriorate more with each passing day. She asked me if I could help make an amulet out of her broken magic stone. That alone made today a joyous occasion. Maybe I'll bring some comfort to her after all. Note 9 - RESTORING THE AEGIS CURIO The Aegis Curio, crafted long ago by the Ancients, holds the power to ease the suffering of priestesses who absorb Blight while performing purifications. It's power has been weakened by repeated purifications by priestesses over many years. The power of an ancient spell can be used to restore this power and help the White Priestess over many years. The power of an ancient spell can be used to restore this power and help the White Priestess. If you can decipher the stone tablet, I am prepared to restore the Aegis Curio. I wish I could decipher the spell myself, but alas, I have little time left. Note 10 - THE HEIRLOOM OF LAND'S END The guardian heirloom of the White Priestess is said to house a warding power that protects one from enemies and the suffering caused by purifying the Blight. It is unknown who created it or by what means, only that it somehow came into possession of the first White Priestess long ago. Note 11 - STATUE INSCRIPTION Stone statues in the likeness of the White Priestesses. The inscription below the surviving stature reads 'Priestess of the Dawn.' while the destroyed statue seems to have been one of the Priestess of the Wind. Note 12 - FADEN'S ARCHIVES V My repeated experiments have produced unexpected results. I have yet to return a Blighted to its former consciousness. However, I have successfully created a new Blighted from a test subject that retains conscious thought and the ability to communicate. I'll have to continue to monitor their progress, but by creating a Blighted that retain its humanity, have I unlocked the secret to immortality? At least the king will be pleased. I suppose I could call this substance wring from the White Priestess the Deathless Elixir. Though there's nothing it can do for Miriel. Any trace of Humanity left in her has long since dissipated. Note 13 - ON THE BLIGHTED II There are Blighted whose minds do not fade. This is no saving grace, however, as it is said that they must endure on eternity of pain and suffering. The miracle of the White Priestess is the only true salvation for those who come to be cursed with the Blight. Note 14 - THE DEATHLESS PACT Only high ranking priestesses are permitted to perform the necromantic rites that entreat the souls of the dead. A warrior of the Ancients must forfeit flesh and offer their soul to the priestess, in turn becoming a deathless entity. The pact is then sealed and continues down the family line through the generations until the bloodline comes to an end. The Ancient warrior shall remain immortal so long as the pact continues.
