I major advancement will happen when the thinking and understanding is based on the reality that drug use is a social and health issue rather than a criminal issue!! When all the stigma is cut apart the idiocy/irrationality of the criminal approach becomes completely clear. If only newspapers and politicians would allow a sensible and reasoned national debate we'd live in a safer society that didn't criminalise people needlessly. The criminal approach is paradoxical as it actually supports far better conditions and bigger markets for criminal gangs to operate, supply and victimise.

Cannabis is not a drug. It's a active substance. a drug needs three process to became a drug. Extraction, purification and reduction. No plant is drug unless that.

I like the term Drug to describe any substance you ingest for a purpose other than quelling hunger and thirst. This easily includes substances like sugar and caffeine, as well as THC and Marijuana as a whole. The distillation of any substance to it's pure essence seems to be "too much" for most people to take. I imagine someone dabbing 99%THCA all day might be in a similar state as someone who drinks everclear all day, that is to say even if they're not dead they're probably pretty useless. Cocaine and heroine are also good examples, because Coca and Poppy can be used as medicines or even recreationally with very limited negative effects, but their pure essence is powerful enough to consume just about anyone.

This discussion is riddled with historical and factual inaccuracies. Interestingly it does not touch on the science around the Teratogenic, (like Thalidomide) and Carcinogenic (esp. Testicular cancers) effects. It does touch on mental ill health effects. It is true that in very particular circumstances, Cannabis MAY have some medical use but then Thalidomide remains in the pharmcopeia despite what is known about the harms. Given no discussion at all of the teratogenic, carcinogenic and epigentic ageing downsides, of using Cannabis, it seems difficult to avoid the conclusion of over selling by Professor Nutt (and many others), Clinicians are surely right to be cautious. "Skunk" by the way is a tabloid term. Should a scientist be using it?

The removal of Cannabis from the pharmacopoeia had no scientific basis, it was purely political. When do medicines get removed from the pharmacopoeia at all? Thalidomide is a great example. If I were a clinician I'd be more concerned that scientific evidence wasn't a factor in it's removal. I'd be suspicious of the entire process.

@@hollowskull4666 Substances under the modern system, get included because they HAVE legitimate medical use. Cannabis has only very limited medical use and is being deliberately "over sold", effectively like snake oil. The serious down sides, including mental ill effects get down played, the legalisation for recreational use lobby, are very noisy about possible medical uses. Thus discrediting the substance and the process.

politics delays so much progress, it's because those boomers aren't educated enough because they didn't have the internet when they were younger... It's so sad and frustrating, they delay progress by stealing money, they stole money from me and I can't do anything about it, the prosecutors don't care either because it's a socialized law-system here in germany and it's just a big kindergarten, Im so sad about this and suffer a lot from it

I don’t disagree with you but if we get rid of the kindergarten we’ll get lord of the flies. But very quickly after that we’ll get government again. What happens when you get rid of government is that in the vacuum of power all the rule based organizations will get a massive growth, organizations like the Mafia, the Arab fundamentalists, the Masonic lodges, groups formed from former military & secret service like The Zetas in Mexico, various drug cartels like the Moroccans, etc etc. All the good people will have to s*ck d*ck of governments that are 10 to 100 times worse than the government proper
