In hair straightening along with thiogycolic acid, ethanolamine, ammonium hydroxide, polyxoyethylene lauryl ether certimonium Chloride, disodium edta are being used. In with neutralizer ceterayl alcohol Glycerol stearate, lanolin, mineral oil etc are being used. As some of the chemical are here not water soluble then does it mean these chemical are making a waterproof barrier on hair permanently as well?

I continue to watch these tutorials with Belinda at the Institute of Personal Care Science due to her ability to educate and inform in such a quality instructional presentation. Perhaps, it’s a character preference however, it’s engaging for me. There is so much to consider and learn before we are able to be successful at formulating these types products. I am considering the online courses offered by this institute because of the vast information available to initial home formulators. I do not want to just copy formulas provided by others but, be able to formulate a product myself professionally. I am self-studying on my own presently and still find the tutorials extremely helpful.

I am in so much appreciation of these informative and no nonsense videos. I only wish I would have had access to viewing all of these *before* I prematurely purchased / blew my budget on formulation ingredients. I am not unlike a kid in a candy store when scrolling through the seemingly endless multitude of various skincare ingredient options so readily available with just a click of that "Add to Cart" button. What's more, is the seemingly daily, ever growing arrival of so many new, excitingly beneficial ingredients to choose from...

I just have one question for you Belinda, hope you could help me, do you offer any teaching course in dietary supplements formulation? I m italian and almost a pharmacist :D i d love to dig deep into cosmetics and dietary supplements thank you
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64015 жыл бұрын
We used to teach dietary supplements but there wasn't a strong demand and it is also tightly regulated by each country so was very difficult to keep up with all the changing regulations. I would suggest you start by looking at your local country's regulations on supplements - are they treated as foods or pharmaceuticals - and search the standards from there for their limits on inputs vs dietary recommendations. Hope this helps.

As you ve already been you ve been truly helpful, in Itaky they are subject to food law, i m interested in the chemistry and science behind the formulation do you have any older material i could buy? You explain science and chemistry in a very interesting and catchy way, cause it s applied to practical stuffs what i ve had for over 10 years are just theorical stuffs with no chance to learn how to apply it to the real world. It depends on: 1-Philosophy: how natural you want your product to be? 2- availability Preservatives: They have specific mode of action, how natural you want it to be? Think about broad spectrum coverage if water based forumla. Static preservation, with packed agents Cidal agent with open led agents Pick preservative to serve product finish Ph and where it may drift to during its shelf life. Use right amount of preservative to be effective Some of my favorite: Liquid germall plus. Geogard ECT (lonza) Plantservatice WSr (board coverage) Euxyl Naticide Gums and polymers selection: Xanthum gum: natural and thickens well but leave product looking translucent Sepimax zen: never lets me down, electrolytes resistent. Siligel: for natural products Amigels Vanatural XGB: stabilize particles extremely well Carbopol materials: not electolyte tolerant Modified cellulosis Method is crucial for gums and polymers, if processed in wrong way not great performance Lipids: Broad classification of materials, oils esters silicones waxes Esters: my favorites fantastic in lip glosses L22 (floratech): my fav Lexfeel natural series: Silicones: provide beautiful cushiony feel Emulsifiers: What could I use? It depends on everything else we need it that cream. 1-leave on product: use non ionic material, waxy material 2- conditioner: cationic emulsifier Glyceryl stearte strate for water and oil emulsions Montanov 68 good stability and viscosity Arlacel 1689 for water and oil emulsions Surfactants: the bubbly foaming materials How natural or not you want the material to be? Boost mildness and foam dramatically You don’t need alot of bubbles for cleaning but customers want them Misconception: oils don’t add finish products creaminess, instead add superfat material

Another question is a catonic and anionic emulsifier supposed to be used with a catonic surfactant in a conditioner?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64013 жыл бұрын
No, you should not put a cationic emulsifier with an anionic emulsifier, you will get insoluble complexes forming in the product. You might enjoy our Can I use a different emulsifier workshop: personalcarescience.com.au/Workshops/Emulsifierworkshop-3165/

What do I do if I can only get parabens as the only preservatives
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64014 жыл бұрын
There’s nothing wrong with parabens when used within the correct limits - in fact they are very mild and effective preservatives. Just make sure you use them within specified limits. Your consumers may not like to see them on the label; that would probably be your biggest issue. Bad internet information has scared consumers into thinking there is something wrong with these materials; when used within limits, there is nothing wrong with parabens.

Also, what is your opinion on the preservative Leucidal Liquid Sf Complete?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64014 жыл бұрын
Hi Joy, it works best when you use it in a simple emulsion or wash off system (not strong enough for clays/masks/exfoliants) and use airless packaging. Like all preservatives in formulas, you should also conduct Preservative Efficacy Testing to confirm its suitability. Use at its maximum recommended input too. You might also find this video useful on preservatives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqHRdpeda7-Ud7c
