In the USA I am very cautious and make no claims about anything I make. As it is right now, laws are being closely looked at, and changes may be coming, which will in turn make it much more harder for the small businesses to stay alive. I thoroughly research everything I put in my formulations, I will not put anything in them that I wouldn't want on my own skin, and I follow strict GMP guidelines so that when someone uses something I've made I can feel confident that they will be safe and enjoy it. I will not compromise on GMP and my research before creating a product for use. Regulations have their purpose, it's to keep the consumer safe. Thank you Belinda for the great tutorial and reminder!

Hello Belinda,thank you so much for this thought provoking video,my worry is listing all my ingredients with percentages that have taken me months of research and trial and then have someone copy it,so i think this is a worry for many people and not just the cosmetic industry even though that is what i am talking about? Hi Chaya, get a good confidentiality agreement in place with your contract manufacturer, it will protect you. Hi Nadia, I personally feel that US will be the last country affected by this but the concept of 'misleading' would still apply and the EU guidance document can still be used as evidence to define 'what is misleading?' It is still going to affect US but will take several years before you feel it. I would suggest you plan to use the 'benefits' approach still, as others will do this too. Be the leader of the pack! Phase out the free from, as it will eventually impact the US market but not in the short term.

Great video but I read somewhere this caused confusion when it came out since these guidelines are simply guidelines and aren't regulation and each EU member state interprets it differently. I'm curious if there has been any changes recently.

These guidelines can be used in a court of law to determine if a company has been misleading a consumer. They aren’t ‘law’ as such, but they are recognised by the law makers as the ‘guidelines’ in determining if an advertisement has misled a consumer. So you should use them as a court can!
