1- I *never* see Jack Vance in the wild. 2- Great Dick haul, and a lot are in that same (newer) series that you already have a few books in. Bonus! 3- Hiero's Journey is great, SF, AND really original. Seems like a keeper. (Although SFBC edition) 4- Spellsinger series is supposed to be great, a hidden gem. 5 - Uplift War books show up all the time in the churn. 6 - Anyone ( like yourself) who is on a journey to read widely across genre fiction and come to understand it should read one book from the GOR series, if only to prove to yourself that you need never touch another one ever again.

FYI - most of the mass market paperback editions of Dangerous Visions were broken into multiple volumes b/c A) it'd be WAY too big and B) no publisher was giving you *that* many stories for the price of one paperback! If it says volume 1 it's probably not the whole book (ie: 34 stories, 2 forwards and an introduction) STILL, totally cool. Just figured you'd want to know.

If anyone reading this hasn't joined a live auction yet I highly recommend it, they are tons of fun. Another insane haul, can't wait for the next auction. Thanks for doing these. I was glad that Williamson revisited the book with a sequel The Humanoid Touch several years ago. The only Dave Duncan series I've read was "The Great Game" - not really sword and sorcery at all - kind of a war/fantasy mix with a bit of SF thrown in for good measure ; I've not read anything else quite like it. although I did enjoy reading it. He's definitely easy to read (in a good way).

“When I get a little money, I buy books. If any is left, I buy food and clothes.” -- Erasmus. Sweet haul. I've gotten into Simak lately from watching your channel... recently read "All Flesh is Grass" (sentient plants from the multiverse with an agenda) and "Special Deliverance" (a talking slot machine transports a college professor to another world, with mysteries to be solved). "Dangerous Visions" was perhaps the foundationally "new wave" collection in America, but I think it had already been established in London, with the Moorcock-Ballard- publications in magazine form already publishing "new wave" experimentalism in science fiction writing.

One thing that I’ve learned from collecting books and postal history is that you really, really need to protect books from light. Paperbacks were generally printed on cheap paper, so deteriorate rapidly in bright light. Even normal room light will fade spines. If possible, keep them in the dark!

Matt, you should retain 'Scop', it's a pretty uncommon book full stop - and that is JFK on the cover. You should also retain the Lem - those A format editions are prized among Lem nuts (like me) as most of his work has been in ugly trade paperbacks since then. Now, it's in handsome trades from MIT and some awful ones from HBJ. 'Vulcan's Hammer' is being made into a film currently, so hang onto it. It's minor, but fun. It's not a variant title as someone else below says. Kuttner is ace. 'The Humanoids' is seminal, but reads like a kids' book, but I like it. Very nice 'Superluminal', that, I covet it. Remember the rule that if I reckon you should keep it, you're allowed to! Look after yourself, man.

That edition of Day of the Triffids was, I'm pretty sure, the first SF paperback I bought for myself, back around 1967. "Donald Kingsbury, who I don't recognize." -- long career, but very low output. Probably best known for the novel "Courtship Rite". (And for never finishing "Finger Pointing Solward".) Still alive, AFAIK, but in his 90s. Van Vogt -- an acquired taste. Once upon a time I read a lot of him. Note -- he tended to recycle a lot of stuff into fixit novels, so don't be surprised to see familiar material repeated.

When I was teenager I bought a UK collection of Henry Kuttner short stories called "The Proud Robot" - and laughed myself silly, the stories were so funny. I've kept that book and read it many times since. Alan Dean Foster's "Spellsinger" series is not "great literature" but it is good escapist reading with some humour too as the spellsinger literally sings song as spells and Foster gets some great moments out of the choices of then current pop/rock hits used and the sometimes unintended results they cause. I've not read Gordon R Dickson's non-Dorsai stories, but absolutely devoured that series as it came out. The Dorsai series is probably a forerunner of modern "military SF", but is far better than most of the jingoistic rubbish published under that rubric these days.

Watching these books being flipped around makes me curious about the edge treatments of books. It seem like there was a period where red or green page edges was very popular. "The most significant anthology in SF history..." Now there is an argument-starter lol If you are talking about influence on other writers then Heinlein wins, hands down. If you are limiting it to anthologies then, fine, The Past Through Tomorrow. These stories are rewritten Heinlein classics that basically taught a whole generation to respect science fiction as serious fiction, which is why he was the first SF writer to appear in any mainstream literary magazine. Thus did he create a whole new generation of writers, readers, and scientists.
