I actually wouldn’t recommend using this in a pool if your pool relies on chlorine to keep clean, as most pools do. Depending on the chlorine content it will remove prints from LEGO pieces. My pool doesn’t have a great amount of chlorine on it but I tested a self propelled boar design in it and the mini figure I placed on the boat is now missing half it’s torso print

As someone familiar with boats, those bunks are pretty realistic to what you'd actually get to sleep in. Only just enough space to fit in laying down, and nothing more. Though how the bunks are meant to be _accessed_ does make me wonder.

Yep I grew up around boats as well, primarily sailing craft at that, so I'm quite familiar with minimized accommodations. Like you implied, all of them had a way to get in and out. Unlike this where an entire floor of a superstructure is the equivalent of 2 feet tall with not even an implied way to get in or out.

@@JANGBRiCKS To be fair, I've seen a good few cabin cruisers where there is a bedroom at the bow that consists of bed, and literally only enough floor space for a door to swing open into and a step up to the bed. I guess the little indents at the outer sides are supposed to imply a way in and out. Out of curiosity, how solid is the joint at the top? I'd figure with only studs to hold onto, it might be in danger of splitting at the middle if you pick it up by one hull. I do like the idea of joining hulls though, since the mono-hulls have always felt just a bit small overall.

@@kauske Yep I've napped in a couple of those. Still nice that they have a way to get into & out of the berths right ;) Plus this is a giant ship here with staterooms suggested to be occupying an entire floor of the superstructure. I can't see any way to change my view that the accommodations in this model are awkward at best if I think in anything close to a reality-based way. The joint between the hulls works pretty well. All of the white parts surrounding the crane rail are tied together across approximately a baseplate's length. If I pick up the ship from either end there's barely any flex. The only action that would concern me is grabbing both ends in opposite hands and trying to bend & fold the deck together upwards. It seems easier for the hulls to separate downward from the center beneath the joining structure.

@@JANGBRiCKS Well, I assume it's meant to be a research vessel, more so than a cruise ship. And most working vessels tend have cramped quarters and hot-bunking. Though with only two bunks, that's going to be some _real_ *hot* bunking indeed, ha.

I must say I'm really impressed by the ship interior, I never would have expected 3 levels! The beds are even 4 studs wide and both have a small shelf to the side, a sort of bay window and as you point out an aquarium! Very well done Lego, most probably the best City/Town ship interior ever.

Video idea: when there's a set that seems overpriced, do a custom modification to add enough value to justify that price. For instance, I find the crane disappointing. For that money it needs more technic parts to create linked controls at the base for traverse, elevation and lowering. There's room to fit it and easy access from most directions to get your fingers on the controls.

This set looks really great and very playable! I'll have to add some more plates for the middle and top floors of the super structure to give them a bit more height (at least enough so minifigs can actually stand up in the top deck). I just put together and modded the $10 cheapest/smallest minisub set and really like it more than I was expecting. It reminds me of the submersibles featured in The Abyss (one of my favorite James Cameron movies) so I definitely plan to pick up the ship to go with it! Cool review!

When you did your reveal video a while back I knew I had to have this kit! I have Now purchased all the 2020 under water sets. My young boys and I love using them all together. We usually put the ship on the edge of a table so all th other kits are lower than in to really add that submerged idea. Plus the crane can winch down past the "water" line. You are correct with the standard bath tub size, we put it in the bath with both our boys in it and with the two of them and the ship there was no room haha.
