To be fair that 1994 Milan team didn’t need to score a crazy amount of goals in the league, they won by simply not conceding any. Milan vs Juventus back then was probably the biggest game in the world at the time and that’s coming from an Inter fan.

But that particular season, they were quite blunt and yet Pep (Cruyff's conduit and feeder player) presided over a 4-0 humiliation. That game killed off Cruyff's managerial career.

Both Kompany and Pep aren't exaclty "irreplacable" players but being the captain of Man City and comanding the backline of the Centurions. I think Kompany was the better player overall You can make an argument for Pep though since he was a starter when Cruyff was Barca's manager and that alone deserves respect

@TheStar17DMC Pep was not just a starter, he was the capitain of those teams. Cruyff had him in the XI of players he ever trained. One of the best defensive midfielders of the 90s. Kompany was good, but clearly a bit overrated. Doesn't belong on the same discussion as some other defenders from his generation as Godin or Chiellini. As for "commanding" the backline of Centurions, he didn't even play half of the games that season, as Pep regularly favoured other players over him.

And pep also won more. Barca's downfall started when he became injury prone in his later career and had a serious 5 season downfall before they were able to replace him.

I actually think as a general rule those average pkayers make some of the best managers. They didn't have the natural talent so they had make up for it with hard work snd understanding the game. You need to have the tactical knowledge just to keep up.

Lopetegui´s performance at Logroñés was excellent. then he was transfered to Barcelona and failed, most probably he didn´t survive to pressure and suffered ridiculous mistakes. At his best he was one of the best GK in Spain, that translate to top 5 in the Premier League of the 90´s for sure
