Overrated & underrated are determined by how people perceive things, and in that respect Benitez is very overrated. His problem has always been interacting with players, numerous accounts of players/journalists who know him personally, calling him a cold tactical genius! If he had Mourinho's charisma & ability to rally people (e.g. imagine Jose doing that 'facts' rant) he could've been something very special indeed.

George Best is one of the top five players the world has ever seen. He walks into any squad in the Premier league. At man u he was a functioning alcoholic whose brilliance in extra time helped to win the European cup. Modern managers would think they could sort his problems. He could play the de bruyne role for City I'm lucky I'm old enough to have seen him play. Put him in a modern side with modern pitches and modern tackling rules. He was the best player on the pitch he covered every blade of grass He curled in a goal from 25 yards that the whole crowd stood and applauded. I know it was a friendly but it was 1986 he was 40. the 2 players who i believe without question were on a par physically with modern footballers were Best and Pele. Best like Greaves and Gascoigne was ruined ultimately by alcohol but for the years he was at his peak he was a terrific athlete. A bystander? he wasn't Ronaldo, he was a team player.
