I am saddened to see the more Panzerkampfwagons, specifically the Panzerkampfwagon VI Ausf E over at Bovington. You are not the only one who knows proper German vehicle names. However, I am glad to see a Sturmgeschütz 3 there, even if it has an improper mantlet. I have gone to a tank museum recently and saw some true monsters of tankery, including a M103. I would love to see one of those running around at 20+ mph, or 32+ kph. EDIT: Autocorrect turned mantlet into mantle

Having been into reenacting since 1994 I've seen a lot of changes. We reenactors have had the opportunity to play with a lot of this stuff but it is really great to see the public interest growing so much as it has and continues to do. With that growing interest comes more rare examples of once faded away examples of military power. Love to see history saved.
@Cmdrduo02us5 жыл бұрын
Do you have a special place in your heart for any of the military vehicles on display? My grandfather was a driver of a self propelled gun. Which was the navy gun on top of the half track which meant to be a tank destroyer, and then upgraded to the M10. Both are kinda obscure and I haven't seen on up close and in person either.

You should visit Militracks 2019 it’s the 10th Militracks and it is the largest vehicle show for german vehicles in the world. Last year a Tiger II was also there and drove a little bit. It is in the south east of The Netherlands and in a forest around the Overloon War Museum which is a very nice museum that also has a panther G early on display

@Luis D. The way I understand it is that single shot rifles are allowed in Britain, caliber doesn’t factor into it. A Sherman tank’s main gun doesn’t have to be deactivated since it’s hand loaded, but a T72 does since it’s an autoloader. Pretty sure that’s all still true.

So.... With all the people running back and forth across the road in between the vehicles, how many got smooshed this year?
@marinetech2626 жыл бұрын
Exactly my point. Combine multi-ton military vehicles running with brake and steering components that are older than probably 90% of the people attending the event. Add in poor driver visibility for many of those vehicles. Stir in a healthy dollop of people deciding to just dash out in front of them to cross the road, and you wind up with a recipe for smooshing. Reminds me of when I was on active duty back in the early 90's and stationed out at 29 Stumps. I was driving my 1978 Mercury Cougar (last year for the BIG Cougars) who's master brake cylinder would be charitably referred to as "iffy". I was driving past the Comm/Elec school on my was to see a buddy at base GMED when a student Lance Corporal stepped out into the crosswalk in front of me. Slamming on the brakes caused all 4 tires to lock up and I just narrowly stopped before mowing him down. My loud comment of "F'ing idiot!" out the window made him come running up to my driver's side. His imperious little attitude for being a LCpl (most C&E boots were privates or PFCs) faded pretty quick once he saw my Corporal chevrons. I looked him in the eye and asked "What do you want boot?" His reply was "uhhhh did you call me an idiot, Corporal?" "Why yes I did boot, and here's why. This is a 78 Cougar. This car weighs in at right about 2 tons, and my brakes suck. So, if I hadn't been able to stop when you decided to step right out in front of me, do you know what would have happened to you?" His reply was along the lines of "Uhhhhhhhh". "Let me help you out here boot, you'd have been pretty f'ed up. Do you know what would have happened to the car if I hit you boot?" "Uhhhhh, no Corporal." "Not a God-damned thing." (They built 'em strong in 78) "So boot, since the average 5 year-old knows to look both ways before crossing the street, was what you did particularly intelligent?" "Uhhhhhh, no Corporal." "Right, so you're a f'ing idiot. Now get out of my face boot!"
