You can format the external sd card as internal storage. Put a 128gb card in it and it becomes one with internal storage after you set it up. Root is not needed. This feature was brought to us by Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Use a class 10 sd card. I think sd cards are supported up to 256gb.

some different versions of android have different privileges. my cheap chinese 200$ phone running marshmallow allowed this, but my galaxy note 8 running oreo won't allow me to set up sd cards as internal. Different manufacturers/OEM's allow different stuff based on how they modify android. AOSP builds are usually the nicest to play with everything, as they typically have the most compatibility.

Im gonna be honest, ive had my GPD XD+ for a month or two now and I think im gonna sell it. There was three things I mainly wanted from it, streaming from my pc to it, playing ps1 games and playing psp games. At first it was fine, I basically streamed tekken 7 to it every day with next to no lag but after a while it began to have major artifacts in the streaming and put me off it. PS1 for the most part is completely fine but I enjoy the games less then I expected I would. As for psp games its just not powerful enough to run any of them, this was expected but even something as simple as amagami which is a visual novel drops major frames. Ultimately what has happened is I end up using my tablet more or got to my ps vita if I want psp or ps1 titles. The remote play was a massive feature for me but its too glitchy for me to be happy about. I do think its a nice product but retro for me(being 21) is late 90s to early 2000s and that is where it struggles. Perhaps when its more powerful one day I'll be more interested. For now I'll probably sell mine in the coming week.

I love my GPD XD. I wouldn't *quite* call it the "holy grail" yet though. The D-Pad is pretty mushy and could be much better. Beyond that, something that will do up to PS2 emulation well would do it for me. That being said, it is still a great device and I don't think there's anything better on that market at its price point. Already having a regular XD, I don't see a reason to get the XD Plus. It doesn't really make emulation noticeably faster on anything notable the XD wasn't already capable of. When it comes to PSP and Dreamcast, the Plus is still struggling. If anyone is going to buy one and doesn't already have an XD, there's no reason not go with the XD Plus. Bluetooth is a nice edition, but not something even with all the other improvements to upgrade to. If anything, the biggest reason I'd want to upgrade would be for the d-pad if it is truly noticeably better.

How is the input lag in emulation? Android 's emulator is fundamentally flawed due to layers of input since I am playing action side-scrollers most of the time.
@GoudaFetaExpandDong6 жыл бұрын
I have the older gpd xd, it's pretty unnoticeable if you're using the built in controller. If you connect your own there is some input lag, but that's with every Bluetooth connection.
@ShaunRF6 жыл бұрын
If this has enough power to run features like Run Ahead, you can actually get lower lag than original hardware.
@dylanharding57206 жыл бұрын
Don't blame this on android. Any input lag is entirely due to the emulator.
@TheRedRaven_6 жыл бұрын
I beat a few Megaman games on it and input lag wasn’t noticeable. But take note I’m using a custom ROM for this device with only the best emulators available for Android. I really can’t speak for the preloaded emulators on the device.
@coxxycabee6 жыл бұрын
Because the controls are not bluetooth it is barely noticeable. When you connect your device to another monitor you may have to do some tinkering to fix the input lag. For my setup for instance, i had to switch my tv into gamemode, turn my tv off, plug in my XD, turn on my tv and then reboot my XD. In saying all this, i don't own the plus, only the red 1ghz unit, so there is the possability that things may have changed but i doubt it. I'd suggest looking up hardware reviews before purchase. The buttons are pretty shit, namely the d-pad. Very mushy and my unit was precise as well, for example i'd be playing Killer Instinct and go from left to right and the up or down button would apparently be pressed inbetween that movement. I ended up switching out the dpad with a NNDSXL one which made it more mushy but more precise, but not perfect. The tightness of the screws on the back can impact the precision i realised as well. I think that's poor design. A lot of other people hated the strangely clicky shoulder buttons too. They're like nothing i've ever used before, but i actually liked them, but they are loud if you plan on gaming in bed next to a spouse or something. I would buy a GPD XD over a PSP easily. I owned two psp 1000 units and both had faulty thumb pads. It would constantly register a right action. On the latter unit I even purchased replacement thumb pads and replaced them (the actual mechanism not just the top disc part) but the issue remained. Either way, even if the psp thumb pad worked perfectly, it's still a thumb pad. It's got nothing on the XD's actual analogue sticks which i believe are the same as the Vita's. They're very good. I use some concave grips on mine to make them even better. Personally i don't use my XD any more. It's a very good device but i couldn't game on it happily. The crap dpad and the capacitative touch screen (conflicts with Drastic) I ended up purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, a Gamesir T1s, and a usb c to hdmi adapter. Never been more pleases. (The Note 9 has a capacitive touch screen too but the s-pen work just as awesome in Drastic as a stylus would on a resistive touchscreen)

The proceeds of used games went to the developer on the initial new purchase. They aren't entitled to profits from the sales of used games. I keep debating between either getting a GPD XD+, or trying to make a Freeplay CM3. Honestly, I like the GPD more, just for the controller set up, but it's just a back and forth right now. Really I'd like something that can do GBA, and even certain Rom Hacks (mainly looking at the ones from the Sonic Hacking contest). I guess I'm curious on what might be the better option. I have like several other questions about the thing, but I'm not gonna bother.

Ah ha! The video I've been waiting for, thanks Izzy!! Also, it's dot.koh.uk, not dot.see-oh.uk ;)

How does it emulate Saturn? There are some pretty clear options for getting the emulator to run on the old XD but some things changed recently in regards to what version of Android it was compatible with.

Nice review, I'm always looking for a decent emulation device to use. The only device I ever owned, other than laptops, was the Xperia Play... which i lost years and years ago =,( I like the performance, bluetooth, HDMI, the only thing i wish i could find was a device with 6 action buttons, ABC XYZ buttons, mainly for N64 comfort ability play, any ideas? also have you tried using 4 wired controllers? I do use 4 wired xbox 360 controllers on my laptop and my last remaining logitec wingman controller with 6 action buttons. Ultimately I'm torn between a little gaming device like the GPD XD+ and a raspberry pie also justifying either is a bit difficult when i already have a powerfu laptop.

I love anything thats portable (pocket portable) and I even use ipad 10.5 inch with smart keyboard as laptop (anything bigger or heavier is not portable in my eyes). With this said the gpd xp plus is very tempting for me and I might buy it after all :D

If I keep travelling as much as I currently do I might get this. I only owned a limited number of consoles and games growing up. So that means there are so many random gems I haven't explored. I have retropie now and it has opened up an entire world! I feel like long form games would benefit from a mobile platform though. So was researching PSPs but I'm already very familiar with android thanks to my nvidia shield so might go this route.

It’s just a DS without the dual screen but it’s your phone UI with controls attached for way more money. Gimme a PSP Go I’m good with that

I'm still partial to the xperia play. The older hardware does hold you back from doing emulation of the ps2/GameCube/Xbox generation. But it it's small pocketable and old enough to be cheep without being retro

If it weren't for the L3 R3 L2 and R2 button placement, I'd get one.

Eric Rhodes for the price not worth it the screen is actually small doesn’t cover the whole screen if you look at the video you will see. I ended up returning it.

You mentioned Mario Kart, which of course is one of the all time great multi player games. How easy is it to link up two or more XDs to play Mario Kart or other emulated games? I assume it's easy with native Android games from the Google Play Store and who knows maybe from the Amazon Store too if you bother. But again how about emulated games?

I love the xd+ and I agree it's the holy Grail for retro specialist

Not sure how I feel about the specs increase. The original couldnt hope to emulate GC ever, and judging from what you said, it sounds like this new version is onl barely capable which isnt good enough for me. I dont mind settling for 30fps as long as its consistent. I feel like for emulating GC I'd be better off buying an unlocked Galaxy S8 and one of those android controllers that attaches to the phone itself like a mini switch

What dosbox version with what settings did you use to get star wars dark forces so well on the gpd XD plus? I would never have imagined it being capable of emulating such a high-end/late DOS game at such great framerates!

I use Magic DOSBox, with the standard settings it comes with!

I'm very interested in this device. If only it had a high end chip, then I could justify the price.

Does this still have the issue of frying the system unless you use a 5v charger?
