You couldve kept the bedding in there. I have the detolf and clean it every 2 or 3 months depending on what kind of bedding i use. But Happy's cage was still good to go for 3 more weeks. You can spot clean dirty areas every once in a few days, which extends the life of the bedding basically🤣

I would just like to say how much I appreciate what you are doing for Happy the Hamster! Thank you for reading all the comments and giving Happy the proper care/things he needs! This is a great example on how to look after a hamster, and I respect that you are doing the taming process very slowly so Happy isn’t overwhelmed or stressed, and he can take his time to get to know you, as most people just rush into playing and grabbing their hamster when the hamster isn’t quite ready yet. I actually recommend Higgins Vita Garden mixed with Mazuri Rat and Mouse lab blocks for your hamster. They're available at Petco and SUPER cheap if you price match to their website. Very nutritionally sound and far better quality than the Kaytee brand. Bravo to you though for the Ikea Detolf enclosure. It just warms my heart to see someone taking such great care of their hamster. So much respect and love for Happy you have. Thank you so much you are one of my newest favourite hamster channels.

i know why your hamster loves the sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds,it’s because both seeds are very high in things like carbs and things like that ,if she only eats those seeds I would try to take some of those seeds out but not all of the seeds out. And that might be why she is growing so much more

The best hamster diet I have found that provides them with the proper nutrition is the Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Blend Hamster & Gerbil Food mixed with Mazuri Rat and mouse diet . And of course lots of veggies on the side . Also hamsters can get really stressed when you replace all their bedding so next time leave a little of his old bedding so it won’t be as stressful. But I honestly love this channel and your creativity is inspirational

The food your using is really bad it doesn’t provide a lot of protein I recommend using the Higgins sunburst food mix with the mazuri rat pellets this provides a lot of protein for happy 😃

Please do not feed your hamster the Kaytee Forti-Diet hamster food. It is a very bad brand and hamsters do have nutritional needs. Protein should be about 16-19% (the mealworms help with that) also, please try not to feed him until his food bowl is empty or every 2-3 days. Hamsters do not need a lot of food as they store it and snack on it later. If you find he is only picking out the treat foods (such as sunflower seeds) do not refill his bowl until it's completely empty. This may seem harsh but it is the best way to prevent picky eating and obesity. Also, if you want to keep your hammy busy, try scatter feeding 😊 it's very simple and if you're worried about him not getting enough to eat, you can always put half in his bowl and sprinkle the other half around his cage.

You may want to be careful using the repti sand because sometimes they add calcium to the sand. A cheaper thing would be to get all purpose sand for Lowe’s which is maybe 4 dollars a bag , sanitize it at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Then sift through it twice. It s a lot cheaper and safer. Plus I’ve been using the same bag for the last 7+ months and I’m still not out. Also hamster hideout is a very reputable website for hamster care. :)

Just happened across the channel, it's nice, wholesome content :). Try putting food in your hand when trying to get him to get in your hand. It's just a bit more inviting and less threatening to have food on an open palm. Also put a little bit of his old bedding in with the new, that way he can put his scent into a nest. Tips for taming your hamster: feed happy treats with your hand once he is used to that then put treats on your hand but don’t lift once he gets used to that start to slowly lift him up Second tip : don’t be afraid or scared of happy he can tell that and think you are dangerous or something dangerous is around

A lot of people dont know that hamsters bite a lot, gerbils are actually better first time pets for kids,they rarely bite and they arent as messy. Gerbils would also love a big enclosure like this and they LOVE to burrow,theyre so fun to watch run around. Yall should totally get gerbils in the future!

Hey love everything about this but instead of using reptile sand you can use child play sand they sell it at home depo for 4$ and that bag will last you forever and it’s heat treated and completely safe and it’s a little less fine so he can dig better:) I personally use this and my hamster loves it.

That corn you can put in the microwave to pop it the popcorn will come off making tiny popcorn that my hamsters love as a treat once in a while. Just keep it in an airtight container to last a little while.

i highly recommend sunburst. kaytee is vey bad for hamsters and i don’t think it’s necessary to change his bedding every month but since you did you should sprinkle some of his old bedding on the new so he can smell his own scent . it prevents stress

I recommend washing the wheel with just dish soap and water in a laundry sink or bathtub and giving it a good scrub. Also he can have corn and sugary things, it just needs to be in moderation because he’s prone to diabetes
