Okay some facts: 1. The NHS mental health sector is one of the most underfunded areas. I have pretty bad depression and am still on a 2 year waiting list 1 year an A&E situation 2. Most private therapists cost between £35-£200, therapy is not cheap, whether it is online or not. Betterhealth needs to pay for their platform, security, ads and licensing checks as well as the therapists. 3. They used to be something like £30 a session but then the 'scam' came out, it became obvious that they were skimping on the necessary safety checks including certifications (e.g. bacp qualified) and have changed this since. While I have never used the platform, it is safe to use for the most part (see 4) 4. Something to be weary of is that because betterhealth is all done digitally, the people in the other side don't get the full picture of the situation simply because they can't see your fully body language. Sometimes this will mean that they could miss something critical and for this reason, it might be unsafe for them to take someone on. However, as someone who has therapy part time on Skype and part time in person, you have to increase your communications; you have to say that you are shaking, or crying bc they can't see that. Some people are in a place they can communicate this more readily, others less so. I have absolutely no affiliation with the company

Just rest, maybe sleep, do nothing, go for a walk or run in nature, take a warm bath, take a moment of silence and stillness... much more relaxing than being stuck to a screen (there is a time for that too but in my opinion the mind doesn't get the best kind of rest this way).

I think the saying "everything happens for a reason" or "everything that happens is meant to happen" can be a bit more complicated and not ultimately true. For example in your case maybe Oxford wasn't the best thing for you even if it looked like the best thing on paper. Or maybe someone doesn't get into medical school or doesn't get a particular job and it wasn't the best thing for them anyway. Here it could be true. At the same time a lot of things have happened, do happen and will continue to happened that were not meant to happen. I can think of a lot of awful things in the world for example. Even on a personal level, think about a situation where maybe someone isn't really meant to be a doctor, where that won't be the best fit for them and they are really meant to do something else that will serve their lives and the world in a better way, and they end up being so determined and just pressing through everything and they become a doctor anyway even if they weren't meant for it. And they will not be that happy. Or maybe someone who was meant to, wastes their time and doesn't work hard enough and ends up somewhere else. Yes you can say that maybe they learned something, and after the fact that is a good mindset to have, but my point is that not everything that happens is meant to happen. I think it is important to balance thinking in a way that will make you happy with being grounded in reality. Sometimes it's a bit uncomfortable to think that things that are not meant to happen can actually happen, because it might take your sense of control away from you, but ultimately it could also make you stronger and more potent because your sense of control might have only been partly real or not real at all (if your assumptions were wrong).

I truly believe everything happens for a reason and it all works itself out in the end. Be patient, have faith and stay positive. @@jack_edwards in that case apologies, but you cannot deny you are supporting a company who has done a lot of harm to people's mental health. it is worth considering also that as CEO of course they are going to defend their company. of course I hope that the company is credible but I just don't think it's worth risking when dealing with something as important as mental health, especially when there are many free charities (childline, samaritans, etc) or just the NHS which should absolutely be suggested to your audience above a sketchy company costing £65 a month.
@neurodivergentdawn5 жыл бұрын
@@abee2557 Unfortunately there is a real lack of services within the NHS for mental health, beyond that of a GP. Free charities are great, but as far as one on one support is concerned, for adults and especially children there is little available. Waiting lists for those with mental illness are months long, and even when seen, appointments are on a two or three week basis. I personally have private therapy, which I am lucky to access, but as an alternative to this a service like BetterHelp is a great idea, especially if someone struggles to leave their house. I feel like BetterHelp will have helped some people if the company is still running and Jack's management have agreed to working with them. Some people may have had bad service, but this is the case under the NHS as well, so I don't feel it's fair to tar the whole company under the same brush of worsening people's mental health.

I said the same to Ruby, but Jack - I am extremely disappointed to see you partnering with a mental health service that costs $65 a week. I would imagine at least half of your subscribers are under the age of 25, and living in the UK. They are unlikely to have sufficient disposable income to afford counselling at a price of $65 a week. Moreover, living in the UK, they will have access to free counselling and CBT through their local NHS mental health trust - usually without going through their GP, and via a simple online referral process. I usually really respect you Jack but, unless your audience is 75%+ international, this partnership is quite irresponsible. I’m a medical student, and I know how much disinformation there is about accessing mental health care in the UK. Promoting expensive services like this only adds to that noise 😔

So true. And that’s not even getting into their past scandals. If you’re in the uk and 13-18 check out Kooth.com, its a counselling service that my GP told me about and it’s 100% free and anonymous
@helpimstillintherestaurant5 жыл бұрын
Ceecie thanks for this! This is a fantastic service - but it’s not available everywhere in the UK. Using the NHS link above will direct you to what’s available where you are. That being said, 40% of 11-18 year olds in the UK should be able to access it!
@helpimstillintherestaurant5 жыл бұрын
The fragmentation or mental health care is something I could go on and on about. Unfortunately there’s a huge range of providers - from SilverCloud to Kooth to Ieso. They are all private companies, and different areas of the UK pay different companies to provide online counselling. The main point is that WHEREVER you are, there WILL be FREE, ONLINE counselling. You should be able to access this WITHOUT seeing your GP, and without paying £50/ week. Please use the NHS link above to find the service in your area. This is why sponsorships like this are so irresponsible - Jack and Ruby’s management should know that free, online care is available on the NHS. If they don’t, they are incompetent and failing to do their due diligence. If they do, they are putting profit above their audience.
@ceecie57765 жыл бұрын
k m oh, I didn’t know kooth was only available in some places, that’s a shame. But like you said there are so many free online companies for mental health in the UK that it just seems so unnecessary to promote or use an American service that charges $65!

Hello Jack, I scrolled through the comments section and I sincerely think that you thought through this collab before involving your public persona with them. I understand other people's opinion about it, but I just want to remember here that everybody can make mistakes. Mental health is for sure a sensitive topic that should be addressed carefully and accurately and as it is, it's difficult to take part in these campaigns of awareness when you don't have a background that makes you legit. I don't really know about what happened as I'm french and was living in France back then (and still am) but the thing is that Jack already explained himself... So let's try to move on, and just acknowledge what we learned from it. I don't want this comment to be taken wrongly. I'm not minimising the consequences and damages of allowing non qualified people to take part on helping others that have mental health problems, as it would not be helping in such a case and could lead to more harm than anything else. But, we might as well believe in Jack's intention to do well, and to help and Betterhelp's as well. And just see that things like that don't happen again! And that is only possible by bringing awareness to it and that takes legit and non legit peoples as well to do it! Moving on other things, I can't believe that it's nearly the end of your degree! I'm in my 2nd year of French lit and 1st of English language (yes I'm one of those people that like to suffer, but I couldn't make up my self for one subject so... here I am doing both). I'm not nearly finished yet but I have a feeling that the next two and half year would happen so quickly! Fortunately, I have my plan set up and I know where I wanna go, I'll see to make it happen! I Trully believe in fate as well so yeah will see what happen! Anyway, It was inspiring to watch you grow (and it still is)! I wish you the best life and a fun and happy journey in making it happen! Best wishes for this year's end and for the beginning of the new, as you'll need it to write those 12000 words! Did you choose your topic already? I'll stop here, or I'll be writing a book at this rate x)

Hey! Really disappointed in Ruby and You (both study tubers i watch, don't know who else) for recommending Better Help when it's very publicly a scam. Their therapists are not even certified and anybody can apply to be one so we're just talking to non qualified strangers while paying them money. This service plays with such a sensitive thing such as somebody's mental health. Really upset that none of you bothered to do a proper research over the sponsor 😞 hopefully you rectify it. Love❤️

@@jack_edwards i agree on your point but the reason we all don't trust their recent claims is instead of addressing the lies that were told that year, they completely deleted the terms and conditions point which stated that their therapists are not actually certified and qualified to help. man i dont want to sound mean or something but promoting betterhelp is not the move. it has been exposed previously for the 'certified' professionals not actually being certified and causing more harm than good to a lot of people

I feel like you are underestimating the skill that scriptwriting is. I am finishing a degree in English Lit too and did the short course and it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. Characterization is hard (I had years of creative writing experience beforehand). Plotting and mastering the three-act structure is hard. Thinking about your writing as something that will appear on a screen rather than on a page is particularly hard. Not to mention that it is somewhat competitive to make it as a screenwriter. I don't want to sound like I don't support you in your endeavour or that I don't believe you're capable, you definitely are and English Lit gives you valuable tools for sure, but if you think you can pick it up in mere months and not with years of practice you're being delusional and arrogant. I would say start now. Read a book by Syd Fields and start writing your own scripts. Scenarist, a software for screenwriting, is particularly useful.

Hey - I think you’ve put a few words in my mouth here!! What I meant is that I’d like to try out a screenwriting course to gain some practical skills which I could experiment with, before committing to a more long-term course. I’m not being arrogant, I just want to try out some new things! Also - I specifically mentioned adapting novels to the screen, which is different from creating brand new characters and/or a narrative, which I don’t feel like I could do without a significant amount of practice. I hope this makes more sense, as I feel like you’ve misinterpreted what I was trying to say!!

Characterisation, plotting and the three act structure also apply for adaptations, and you'd be competing with people who have been writing original screenplays as well as numerous adaptations for years. Having an interest in screenwriting is good and I am sure you have a fair chance of succeeding in it if you love narratives and books, but it is clear you still don't know all that much about it, and having an English Lit degree without some sort of specialization doesn't mean you do.

You’re clearly intent on disagreeing with me and proving that I won’t be able to be a screenwriter. I’m absolutely not expecting to have one of my scripts picked up straight away (obviously) and, as I just said, I want to take a course to try it out before I commit fully. I am 21 years old and wanting to try new things and learn new skills, utilising the degree I have done. I wasn’t expecting to be a pro after a 6 week course, but thanks for your concern
