I like the OG methods you used that make a nicer finished product.

Thanks for the video. I'm new to MYOG and they are very helpful. When you were measuring the circumference of the lid I saw that lovely long metal yardstick and I thought for sure you were going to mark a starting point on your template and roll it down the length of your yardstick back to the starting point.

I made some packing cubes for our Florida trip this past August (flat configuration like yr red ones but larger). I used mesh (fiberglass window screen) for the fronts to be able to identify what is which one. I am sold on packing cubes! The help organize the suitcase to sell! I'm with you are figuring out circumferences @2:10, there just isn't an easy way. I really like the white cube with the contrast of the black zipper and yellow accent color. Nice

Thanks Dokk! I didn't talk about the white one much, and maybe should have. I added the handle to the top because it goes into the bag first, so the handle makes getting it out much easier. But yeah, I love how it turned out with the colors. Thanks as always for being part of the channel!

Great tips on the rounded corners and space to the zipper teeth. Depending on where you shop, it pays to watch for sales or coupons. Hobby Lobby runs a 40% off coupon weekly, and Joanns is famous for their 50 or 60 off one item. So many other choices on line at great prices too, and lots of colors. You can sew binding in two steps if you don’t have the binder attachment. I have also used the double-sided tape so I could stitch in one pass. Tk as always for sharing!

Good point on the sales and coupons! I actually found a coupon on my phone while I was in line to buy the elastic I used in this project. It's still more expensive than other binding options, though, but might be worth it in certain applications. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!

Thank you for sharing. I really like your videos. They are very helpful. I am making a fishing pole holder for my son and was miffed about how to make the pouch he wants on it. The first ones I made didn't have one but he is picky and apparently needs it. This will be perfect. Thanks again. Meg

Another great video - thank you. Would be cool to see if you have any ideas on how to make some sides of a packing cube or utility pouch or pencil case more rigid. I have a bunch of cases from Eastpak and they seem to have some sort of reinforced inserts inside some of the walls - I bet answers await on the inside, but my currently non-existent sewing skill set does not allow me to perform a safe disassembly :)

Hey Jason, I just found your channel from the tig welded table video you posted and now this one. I showed my wife and she, like myself, couldn't believe what we were seeing. A white, baldy guy who welds, sews, plays drums, guitar and bass and has an almost un-healthy relationship with their pet! 😂😂😂 Of course, the differences between us lie (lay? idk) in the details but on the surface it was a bit of a shock to have seen a person who fits my description. Usually, according to the cops anyway, I'm the one fitting the description! 😂😂😂 It's funny as well, I'm just about to make some pouches like what you did here for my busking rig. I had a padded Cajon carry bag that my battery powered amp fits into very nicely and I need some storage boxes for my mic and cables, etc., and so this video was very timely for me! I've know it to be true for decades but this supports the adage, we're always where we are suppose to be! Be well and stay safe and "thanks". ✌

I have plans for the Featherweight to make it into a video in the future. Most of the materials I use are not in its wheelhouse (it can do darn near anything in a pinch, but I don't want to unnecessarily abuse it). But when it comes to lighter materials, it can't be beat. I love sewing silnylon on it!

Hi! I didn't get specific with the measurements, because these cubes were made specifically to fit my backpack. I see the value in having measurements to start with, though, so I'll try to add them to the video description. Thanks!

Great video Jason. I struggle with the real-deal 3 dimensional projects like this. Funny, I bought a Sailrite 1 inch binder like that two months ago and it's still sitting on the shelf above my Consew walking foot, I'm a bit intimidated to get started with it.

JP, I made a lot of bad stuff before I made anything good. Still do ..... :)
@Hiker_Trash2 жыл бұрын
Here’s how you mathematically measure round corners on a square: Say I want my corners to start 3 inches from the outer corner. It’s a 90 degree corner. This will give me a circle with a 3 inch diameter. (Diameter) 3 x (π) 3.1415 = 9.4245 x 2 = 18.849 (circumference) My central angle is 90 degrees since it’s a square corner. Then I need to convert this into a decimal. So 90/360 = .25 So (circumference) 18.849 x (central angle) .25 = 4.71225. Once you do this a few times it makes measuring rounded corners a lot easier.

Dude... smart. Thanks for the good idea. Also, I have the same machine and am thinking of picking up that swing out binder attachment. Do you have an affiliate link? Just thought I'd ask before buying.

I don't have an affiliate link with Sailrite, thank you for asking! They gave me an Ultrafeed LS-1 a few years ago, so I don't mind giving them some free advertising now and then. Thanks for watching and commenting!

At 10:30 in the video, there is an attachment to your machine that feeds the binding at just the right angle to wrap around the edge of the hem……what is that device called?
@thejasonofalltrades2 жыл бұрын
Hi! To the best of my knowledge, the best generic term is "binding attachment," and some people just say "binder." The specific one I am using in this video is the 1" Swing-Away Binding Attachment from Sailrite. That's an excellent choice for a first binding attachment. The important thing to know about binding is the attachment and the binding need to be the exact same size for the best results. For example, 7/8" binding will run through a 1" binder, but will sometimes become misaligned and the stitches will miss an edge (especially around curves). I'm planning a fairly deep dive video into binding soon! Binding can be some of the most frustrating sewing one can do, but sometimes it's exactly what is needed! I hope that helps, thanks for watching!
@rickhonig32855 жыл бұрын
Have you had issues with the swing away binder? I have the same one, same Consew machine too. When I set mine up it jammed the fabric and caused tons of rats nests of thread.
@thejasonofalltrades5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, I haven't had that problem. Is it possible that the presser foot is contacting the binder? That might potentially mess with the tension and case that kind of problem. I pretty much always use the foot that has the skinny "toe" on the right side, so there is more clearance. If the binding isn't feeding off the roll easily, that might also cause problems. Sometimes I pull a few yards off the roll and lay it on the floor so there is less resistance. Let me know if you're still having problems!

Would you happen to have any tips on sewing zipper pockets on 1000D cordura?I'm trying to sew a individual pocket on a project but the cordura wont lay as flat as I would like. Thus making the stitching along the zipper look crooked. I am using a zipper foot an alot of pins to hold it down but it doesnt seem to work well
@stoneblue17955 жыл бұрын
That tape from Sailrite can be your best friend. Press it down with the handle end of a screwdriver or similar tool to insure "contact" and encourage it to stick well (my experience). I NEVER use pins..... just me.
@thejasonofalltrades5 жыл бұрын
E K, JP said it for me. I use double-sided basting tape, especially on 1000D cordura. It helps the fold lay nice and flat, and makes sewing it a lot easier. To me, it's worth the cost. I have pins, and on the rare occasion I'm using a lightweight apparel cotton or something, I might use them, but it's exceedingly rare. The little clamps and binder clips seen in this video are my go-to for when the tape isn't called for. I hope that helps (and thanks JP for your reply!). Thanks for watching and commenting!
