This is helpful...I'm installing new tank for a 1956 Mercury this weekend. Never had to change a tank out but just getting the basics helps.

This will be very helpful for me because I have to change the tank on the same type of car. Someone put a different tank in it so the sending unit doesn't read how much gas is in it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the videos on the 1948 Chevy coupe. I'm in the process of purchasing a 1947 coupe. Your videos you have been doing great for me to learn and understand more about a car this old. The one I'm purchasing has not been driven sense 1984 so it will need everything you have showed so far and more. Thanks hope there are more to come. Thanks again.

Some ideas, generator maintenance and inspection, and starter, and did the 48 have a bypass oil filter. Those are what coming in my future. Thanks for all your help. Chris

@@chriswinters2991 The very next thing on the list is testing the gen. and starter. I'm not sure how far into them I will get if they work. They will be cleaned and painted at the least. As for the oil filter, I don't believe they were even available as an accessory until the early to mid fifties. But I wouldn't let that stop me from installing one if I really wanted to.

Cool animations! I enjoyed repairing the tank of my '47 so much, I did it several times. I may still end up with a new one.....

Yes if you can repair the oringal part I would go with that. Ordering a aftermarket part is not gerinted that it will work either. I don't know how many parts my brother had to send back working on people's car's. They pump those parts out as fast as they can without checking everyone of them for defects. If you can repair the oringal part do it. Just because it's a new part don't mean sqaut.

Just found both on ebay, trying to get this project done as cheaply as possible for the guy. The float was actually listed for a truck but seems to be a match. Here's the part number on chevsofthe40s.com 3708954. The tank was made in Taiwan, not generally something I like to choose. You can find them at chevsofthe40's , or thefillingstation.com as well.

Try and avoid china Made part's at all cost drop it in a bucket of vinager for a couple of hours then in a solution of baking soda and water and order a new float. Problem should be solved 👍

I try whenever there’s a choice to avoid anything from China. We are at war with them for the very survival of our Constitutional Republic.
