I remember being introduced to the Smiths and Morrissey by a Mexican goth girl in the nineties. He used to be very big among Latinos back then. Anyway, I only heard a few of his songs and parts of songs. I thought of Morrissey as a sad weepy guy. And the lyrics about getting hit by a double decker bus were funny. But then I got a compilation disc with this song on it and I heard the depth and the amazing music and became a fan. My wife got the Your Arsenal album and I no longer thought of him as a weepy guy. He's talented and has a good sense of humor. "I have friends that laugh their heads off at danger"

I was in radio as on air talent for 5 years and music director for 2 of those. "How Soon Is Now' is The Smiths "Stairway To Heaven." It is one of those songs that we never talked over any part of the intro, never ever. You got called out if you did. The Smiths is the influencer for many bands that came after them. The stations new it. Other young musicians knew it. Johnny Marr is a legend on the guitar. He can be compared and equaled to Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, and many others. His style is hard angry yet compelling and soft. Without The Smiths there would be no Oasis, and no deep, dark, lyrics of bands to come. Morrissey's lyrics are as profound as Neal Pearts just on different topics.

Yes, I’ve been there and this song resonated a lot back then, sometimes I still feel like this and I’m now an old bird of 57. I was bullied terribly at school and it was tough and hit my self confidence socially but it made me self-reliant. You need to be you - if people don’t like it then f•ck ‘em. One of the benefits of growing older is you don’t care what other people think so much. It takes courage to be an individual but never try to follow the crowd and fit in Jayy, just carry on being your own, unique and beautiful self and let them follow you!

As a lifelong Smiths fan, you've nailed it. That song is about awkwardness, loneliness and the need to be wanted, but ending up disappointed. The Smiths were a band that spoke to a generation of disenfranchised youth - people who felt alone, awkward, like they didnt belong. Morrissey was and still is that person. His lyrics captured perfectly something most of us went through, and it helped us through difficult times in our youth.

AT LAST - THE SMITHS!!! The Smiths had already split by the time I got into them.....but I was converted FOR LIFE! The lead singer Morrissey is a lyrical genius - he tackles all those dark things a lot of singers won't, but he normally puts a humorous edge on it. He was the voice for the shy, the misfits, the awkward, the 'I don't belong' people in the world’ - he made them feel less alone in the world through his lyrics. He went solo shortly after the split and is still an icon, releasing new music & playing sold out gigs due to his legendary status. I have seen him over 20 times in concert and it's like a religious experience - his fans are intense! He is known for being unapologetic and refuses to play the fame game for record companies, which normally leads to him being dropped by the label - as if they think he cares! You should react to this video of him playing the Hollywood Bowl to see the amount of fans that NEED to touch him by invading the stage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIHMm2lporh7aZI They don't call him the 'MOZZIAH' for nothing! He's a staunch animal rights activist and The Smiths album, 'Meat Is Murder' is often cited for the biggest shift to vegetarianism. He refused to play his sold out gigs at Madison Square unless McDonalds agreed to close whilst he was there - and they DID! 😆 Another great track you should react to about police corruption is 'Ganglord': kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnjSqK1qi5aWY5I At his concerts, he plays a collage of footage showing police brutality at it's worst. one of the most unique, talented and REAL artists out there today.
