Just a note, this isn’t the original song. The singing and music are okay but if you really want to be blown away look up the original single recorded by legendary producer Phil Spector. I remember that song too. Both are great singers, but the coin flip worked out though. Bill Medley is a great singer too, but this song was definitely better or suited for Bobby's voice. It was a song best for a tenor and he was amazing. But on the same token, "I've had the time of my life" song was best for baritone voice which Bill had the deep singing voice or deeper. I just couldn't see the song coming out right with the higher Bobby hatley voice singing it, that song was made or perfectly set for the baritone voice or for Bill. The two had that nice deep and high combo though and great singers individually

The song was written for a 1955 movie called Unchained, about a guy in prison who couldn’t wait to get back to his girl. The guy who wrote the lyrics refused to put any of that stuff into the song so it became a general love song, sung by many before the Righteous Brothers did it .. but nobody else did it like this, altho many other singers covered the song later (including Elvis) and based their versions of it on this version by The Righteous Brothers ... It is a solo song, but the Righteous Brothers were a duo so they flipped a coin to see who was going to do it, and Bobby Hatfield won. The other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for the studio version as well as for this performance AND he played piano while Bobby was singing .. so it was still a team effort. Bobby sang another version for the movie “Ghost “ and this revived interest in the 1965 version (this one) which was then re-released. The Righteous Brothers and this song made history by having two different versions of the same song in the Top20 of the charts at the same time, competing against each other!

Technically, not the original. The Righteous Brothers' version is a cover. It was originally in a movie called "Unchained" hence the song title that appears to have nothing to do with the content of the song. It was set in a prison, and was sung by an inmate who was questioning what was waiting for him on the outside. "Time goes by so slowly, and time can do so much, are you still mine?" The lyrics are such a sad mood when put in the context of a prisoner possibly losing the person he holds so dear, and not able to do anything to change it. They did add to the song and make it their own, which changes the feel of the song, but the original is haunting in its own right. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWKUnneflLGLm5o if you want to check it out.

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century. "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

To find out how they got their name, watch this full performance in the Andy Williams Show ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIu9oplpdrt9mKc ... enjoy! Righteous Brothers are two guys who are not actually brothers, they are a duo. But this is a solo song so they flipped a coin to see who would sing it .. this is Bobby Hatfield, and the other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for this performance .. and he did so well with that, building up the music to the passionate end, so credit to Bill Medley too .. I also read that Bill Medley played the piano in the background for this song, and that Bobby sang this song while suffering from a head cold! This performance was done live, and was better than the recorded studio version. Bobby suffered from stage fright and was particularly nervous in this performance because his parents were in the audience... you can see him bite his lip then grin at the end because he knew he nailed it! There’s a really good, in-depth analysis of the backing and the vocals in this YT video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKC7nHRvfJqDgpY .. also some history thrown in ... You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin (Bill Medley’s deep bass-baritone voice) ... ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqvMoqOdbK2YeLs ... Unfortunately, Bobby had already passed away when this duo was inducted into the RocknRoll Hall of Fame .. but his buddy Bill Medley paid tribute to Bobby by singing this song, in a slow, gentle and very touching way.

"Don't ruin it for them." LOL This is the group that preformed the version in the movie Ghost. They were not the first to sing it, but the best. They first sang it in the 60s and it was a hit again in the 1990s with the release of Ghost and a pottery lesson. They are not brothers, the other one has an exceptionally deep voice. They also sing You Lost That Loving Filling with the other man singing the lead. He was quite handsome. That tan is setting off those eyes. It is shocking how effortlessly he goes to full power on projection and then continues a series of runs without taking an additional breath. That is a gift from God. He is one of the reasons they called it "blue eyed soul". It immolates R&B because it reaches the soul. Also check out Elvis' 1970s version. He looks a wreck and can barely put a thought together and then he starts a Liberace like piano intro (I forget he could play classical piano, I am used to him with a guitar). It is not as soulful, but it is deeply moving, once he gets out of the flourishes.

Okay....here's what I wrote the first time. lol hahahaha.... De says, "Oh, so he's really old." lol Girl, I am really impressed about how much info you remember about the Righteous Bros.! Well done. It was fun as you were watching De's reaction to Bobby's voice.... it felt like when I watch you and I know what is coming up and I start smiling.... You did the same with De. lol Thanks for this reaction... it's nice to see you with such a close friend. Take care and be well. Peace.

I recall when this song was first recorded. Radio stations did not want to play it ..claiming it was too long.. Did not take long for minds to be changed.! It is indeed one of the all time great love ballads of all time.

This song is a very close, and emotional song for me. I am a man's man, but...I cry every time I hear it. My mom passed away 3 years ago. She had me record this song (her all time favorite) over and over again on a cassette so she could hear it over and over again. Everytime I hear it, I think of her. I miss, and love you so very much mom. Live to Survive!

I'm happy these young ladies are experiencing quality music. Artists both black & white produced some really beautiful music in the 50s 60s and 70s.

Live performance, no auto tune or recording tricks, just pure talent. This is a panty dropper for the ladies.

I first heard this song when I was 13 and suffering through my first love for a classmate who didn't know I was alive unless she needed help with her math homework. Now I'm 70 and suffering through a separation (because of her work) from the last love of my life. The first line and "I hunger for your touch" brings on the tears today just as it did 57 years ago for my first love. Life coming full circle.

Get her to watch/listen too “You Never Close Your Eyes Anymore” so she can see both brothers in the same song.

Bobby Hatfield is the soloist in "Unchained Melody". Bill Medley is the baritone. Bobby died back in 2005 while on tour. Bill is still working and has a show in Vegas. Bill also had a very successful solo career.

Bobby Hatfield died of an cocaine overdose back in 2003. A damn shame
@josephfant61444 жыл бұрын
Due to stage fright. This nite his parents were in the audience. He was nervous that night.

He didn't die of a Cocaine Overdose. He had cocaine in his system but he died from blocked arteries that had been not diagnosed. It would have killed him regardless.

Percy Phelps your joking right. If there wasn’t a war on drugs he probably would of got the help he needed.

Crazy.. Never would've thought that he was a cocaine user. Especially towards the end.

That crowd was still-as-death. Not a word. Not a movement. FROZEN. Who can do that today?

Today a few idiots in the audience would probably ruin this perfect performance by making some attention seeking noise.

I love the looks of the girl that introduces the song gives to the girl that hears this version of the song for the first time. So intimate and pure! Nice video! Thnx!

To get a taste of the duo I'd recommend the song You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

The version in Ghost was the studio version from The Righteous Brothers (they were not related). This tv version was done live in '65. Bobby Hatfield absolutely owned it. When Ghost came out, a new studio version was rereleased and charted big time. IMO the Live version done on the Andy Williams Show was the definitive version of this great song.
