At Post-Op Day 25, we finally get Chris to get some work on the jiu-jitsu mats. We start to integrate BJJ-Specific movements into his rehab. The goal is to simply build strength, control, stability, and muscle-memory for an eventual return to drilling and then jiu-jitsu.
The Bauerfeind Genu-Train knee braces are what Chris uses to assist with his return to the mats. Here is a link to check out the braces.

Great Video. I just had my meniscus repaired instead of shaved down. Can you recommend a good way to ensure that it doesn't tear again?!

The rehab on a meniscus repair is significantly longer than a meniscectomy. Restrictions are much more stringent due to the healing of the tissue. Make sure to follow your MD and therapists instructions. Listen to your body, take it slow, ensure you do the proper rehab, core/hip/knee strengthening, and gradually work your way back into the activity. A controlled environment is key. Drilling independently at first then with partners you actually trust and who know of your injury/rehab. Then advance gradually to specific position/situational drilling and rolling and then eventually return to activity. Best of luck and make sure you do the rehab! Good luck and let me know if I can help!

Also, the videos for my training partner Chris are just an example and a guide to give ideas. Your timetable will be different but it should at least give you an idea on what a return to grappling will somewhat be like.

When was Chris able to roll again

The Bakery I don’t remember exactly. Chris had a really fast recovery and probably went back to training earlier than he should have. It truly depends on the individual though. Low pain, full range of motion, good strength, good stability. Also, make sure that you have been released to train by your doctor or physical therapist. Good luck!
