Isabel Wilkerson on The Warmth of Other Suns - John Adams Institute

Almost everything you know about the black American experience relates to one thing: the so-called Great Migration, when millions of people left harsh conditions in the South for a better life in the cities of the North. Isabel Wilkerson won the Pulitzer Prize in 2011 for her groundbreaking first book. Through more than 1200 personal interviews, she provides the real, flesh-and-blood story of the movement that gave us jazz, hip-hop, soul food, and so much more.

My parents were a part of that migration from South Carolina to Harlem New York and a lot of the details about living in the South I had no idea you've done such a great service of informing our people and the world on how difficult it is to live in America being Black and it keeps getting worse..again thanks for the enormous contribution

Hearing the story of the vicious violent intentional aggression and often death inflicted upon black people by whites for such a prolonged period of time is both disturbing and never stops being painful! I am viewing the video in preparation to read The Warmth of Other Suns. I wonder if it will help me better understand this mindset. We know the trauma inflicted but what we know less about what makes those tick who inflict the trauma...I hope that this story gives some insight about how people could behavior in this manner and then live like its normal.
