Welcome to The Joy of Editing! In this video, I answer the question: where does Topaz Photo AI sharpening fit into my TK9 and Photoshop workflow? After completing the editing process with TK9 in Photoshop in a previous video, I now show how I apply Topaz Photo AI sharpening to the edited image.

Hi Dave, when you work on this high level of image processing wouldn't it be easier and probably better to batch process the raw images in DxO Pure Raw before loading them into Lightroom? With raw images I use Photo AI only for sharpening at the end of the process. The advantage of pre-processing with DxO Pure Raw is that the software also does the lens correction automatically. This software is not fast but it is definitely faster with noise reduction than Lightroom or Photoshop.

If you are working in LR only, no PS, do you still leave the sharpening to the end of editing in LR or you do it in the beginning?

Thanks Dave, a useful video. I have always been told that sharpening should be applied at the target image size. Should we not resize before going to Topaz?

If you need to upscale an image I would upscale it first and then apply sharpening after.

@davidfoster3246 "Output" sharpening should be applied at the target image size. The sharpening in the video is creative sharpening I assume.

Hi Just an observation at the end when exporting I noticed you did not alter the bit depth from 16 or the colour space my understanding is that many print services require jpeg/sRGB/8 bit images. Perhaps I am a bit behind the game. All my printing is in the form of books LR/Blurb.

Before sending your image for printing, I recommend consulting the printing service and using the bit depth and color space they prefer.

So you skip the "Capture Sharpening" which is usually recommended along with Noise reduction as the first edit to incorporate.
