I have owned the NIK collection since NIK owned it. I am sure I have under used it because with 54 filters it can get very confusing. I found Tonal Contrast and because I got results I liked, I have been stuck on only Tonal Contrast. Your new tutorial series on Color Effect 5 is exciting for me. With you great teaching style, I look forward to learn more about the filters I was too overwhelmed to test. I look forward to future tutorials in this series. I hope you keep TK Friday and now add a NIK Collection Monday. Thanks Dave! Everyone of your tutorials are awesome!

I agree 100% with all of your points. I, too, have used Nik for a very long time, and I am sure that I continue to underuse it. Nik Mondays sounds great to me!

Great tutorial and having used Pro Contrast in many of my images I now realise that I have been approaching it in the wrong way and not using it correctly. Just tried it out on an image and wow, what a difference using your workflow. By the way, if I am not Colour Grading with the TX8 Panel would you recommend using this instead at the beginning of the normal workflow? Seems a very powerful tool. You are the first to fully explain this filter and I sincerely look forward to future Nix Collection tutorials.

Hi Dave, I love your channel and this was a great tutorial. I was a strong supporter of Topaz but after they did away with updates for Studio 2 (no M Chip support), I'm leaving them behind and switching to other plug-ins, like NIK. I like Topaz's AI stuff but I depended on many presets in S2 as started points. Sad. I've been with them since Day 1.

Thanks Dave. Another great tutorial. In past tutorials, you have used the TK8 panel to do add contrast to your images. Pro Contrast looks easier to use. Where in a workflow would you recommend using Pro Contrast? Would you use it before or after beginning your work with the TK8 panel? Looking forward to your next video.

Thanks Dave, this is one of my favorite filters for contrast. In the beginning, I worked almost exclusively with Tonal Contrast, but for some time now, you guessed it. But I also work very often with Film Efex Modern to influence the contrast. It was an interesting video, looking forward to the next episodes. Have a good one!

Thanks, but please remember that a lot of us do not "rent" Adobe products, nor do we use Macs (I mainly use DxO and just got Topaz--too bad I didn't see your discount first), so it would be greatly appreciated if you showed all demos using apps/plug-ins in stand-alone form if applicable (the case with Nik and Topaz) rather than from within LR/PS, as the look and commands can differ (especially on a PC). BtW, when you pulled the Dynamic Contrast slider all the way to the right, it appeared to produce a bit of vignetting. Also, the addition of ClearView to every upgraded Nik plug-in is helpful, as that function can really help provide a de-hazing effect. It would be interesting to see how that worked with Pro Contrast, as would putting a control point on the model's shaded eye to show a bit more detail. I'll upgrade from Nik 4 to 5 when they cut the price in half--their software is excellent, but they should reward their loyal customers!

@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
It is inside of Color Efex Pro. It should be in the filter list. I believe the list runs in Alphabetical Order. Make sure you click on the button on the top left side that says ALL. I believe there is a total of 55 Filters and you should find Pro Contrast in the List found in Color Efex Pro.

All of Nik’s previous updates were backwards compatible, Dave. You could always go back on finished and unfinished images where Nik filters were applied via smart objects and re-edit them when desired. With this new version, that’s no longer possible. As you know, the new version of Nik automatically deletes the old, so once added there’s simply no way back. Fortunately, I learned of this major problem from a fellow photographer just before I updated, so I’m good to go. It would have made the all of the smart object Nik edits I made on hundreds and hundreds of files completely useless and destructive. The folks at DxO could have and should have forewarned upfront on this issue. Shame on them for not doing so. Buyer beware!
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info Donald. I am sure it is all about the coding and new ways of doing things. I don’t understand all that coding stuff, so I don’t know what is possible for DXO software engineers to do or not do.
@donaldlyons7143
@donaldlyons7143 2 жыл бұрын
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks Dave. I'm not a software engineer either...just another user of DxO's products. For me (and many others), DxO gets an unqualified 'F' in fulfilling their duty to disclose up-front this important limitation in the current software. Unlike mushrooms, we don't grow in the dark. Call me skeptical, but I believe this was and is a deliberate effort to hide this important detail from the public. Clearly, this would have greatly impacted sales and revenue. Thanks again.
