l love the control points. I photographed baseball for 11 years and many times a helmet or ballcap would shade the players face. A control point in Viveza would very quickly adjust brightness, contrast and saturation. Also, many photos got "Darken Lighten Center" in Color Efex Pro. There are multiple ways to apply a Vinette, but I really like the quality from NIK software.

Great Tip about having a Zeroed Out Preset - I always just reset each one every time. This is a lot easier. I am really loving you going through each of these filters in NIK - You do such a great job explaining everything. And I really like using these filters with masks from the TK8 Panel. Thank you

I’m really enjoying this series, and would love one on control points. I imagine that they can be a simple way to use luminance masking, possibly easier than TK8.

This part 3 is great again and its a very good idea that you will make such videos showing the most of the Nik 5 filters. I like the control points too and if you have time, maybe put them into your videos.

These are great instructional videos Dave. I wonder if you might address the color space that is used in The Nik Collection. I suspect-but I am not certain-that NIK uses ProPhoto or RGB. Consequently, the appearance of the image while editing in NIK might not be the same as one observes when editing in Photoshop. Indeed, if one intends to print a given image on a mat paper then upon exiting the plug in the image will look entirely different while "soft proofing" in Photoshop. I do not believe that one can adjust the ICC profile with which on works in NIK. Suggestions?

Hi Dave, thanks so much for the tutorials, I'm learning a lot from you. Would you use more than one filter from Color Effex on a single photo? like would you use three? cheers!
@gregoryroscoe38182 жыл бұрын
What considerations would steer you to use tonal contrast over pro contrast? This was a great overview. These aren’t mutually exclusive but sometimes I dial up one of these over the other but can’t articulate why. Seems like tonal contrast gives you more tonal control?
@stewartlogie2 жыл бұрын
I think many of us would like to see a comparison of using control points in Nik versus luminosity masks in Photoshop. Is one faster than the other or does one offer more control?

Thanks Dave - another great tutorial. I am really enjoying this series as no one else is taking the time to demonstrate the properties of each filter in such depth. Please keep them coming - they will prove to be an invaluable reference point. One quick question. How did you save the zeroed out preset to the to the Tonal Contrast menu? When I saved mine it went to the Custom menu not the drop down.
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Geoffrey. It does go to the Customer Menu. It would be nice if it went to the Filter presets.

Another great lesson, Dave. ON1 Raw is my go-to software and usually I use Color Efex only if I want an additional 'offbeat' look to the photo. Already I'm seeing that Color Efex can do some of the heavy lifting I'm now doing in ON1. These tutes are enabling me to transition from the hit and miss methods I've been using to a more informed use of the filters. So yes please, I'd appreciate you doing videos on more of the filters. Cheers from DownUnder 🦘
