Been watching Maverick drivers for years. They've had this technology for quite sometime. People were worried about the number of back up systems they had. I think the number was at 11. They still had their regular mirrors to use. They were 100% better at night and during inclement weather. Especially when approaching vehicles from the rear didn't have their lights own. The drivers would show us the different aspects. Was very impressive and a giant leap in safety. The one driver I watched was very skeptical at first.

It’s called Mirror Eye Technology on the Maverick truck. The screen in the center of the windshield Kevin was talking about is a blind spot camera that points straight down beside passenger door.

I have this technology. But no regular mirrors. Yes my drivers side can scan. I also have infrared, for at night. On the windshield is a screen for future camera on trailer rear.

Texas needed those bridges!!! I remember when there wasn't much and the roads they did have weren't sufficient for how fast their population grew and there was SOOOOOOO much road rage. I think it was the first time I ever heard the term "road rage", I think Texas coined it. Glad it's so much better.

My uncle Jim who drove for years started out with a flat bed hauling steel. Then started hauling beef. He must have made pretty good money to start his own trucking firm. I know when I rode with him was a company out of Chicago and he would say they were Mafia. I remember that company but don't remember how to spell it. He owned quite a few semi's. I use to do service work on them while I was laid off from my job.

Trivia item since you noted passing a Dairy Queen in Texas. Dairy Queens in Texas are quite different from Dairy Queens elsewhere (mostly in that the Texas outlets have more cooked food options). In the chain's earliest days, the franchisees that had the Texas territory got together and talked the company into letting them have considerable flexibility in the menu, so they could provide local flavors. That early contract provision has persisted.

Talk about deja vu all over again. I ran 59 to Houston so many times. Many weeks 2 rounds from St Louis to Houston. I sincerely hope you are not going to Kroger in Houston. Very tight, at least on the cooler/freezer docks. Then, frequently takes MANY hours to unload. One good thing, though, the Houston drivers are better than Dallas drivers.

@TheJoyofTruckingАй бұрын
Werner has a lot of issues. It will be a steep learning curve. But we are glad Kevin started there. They offer a lot of education. The simulator saved our butt when we had a steer tire blowout. Kevin had practiced on the simulator and knew exactly what to do. That was priceless. As a starter company we think it’s a good place to start. Nice terminals. Variety of trucks. Our older videos will be helpful for you (though some things will have changed). After 8-12 months consider coming to Crete. 😃

I can see where camera's can help, but from what I seen with how folks become dependent on them in car's I think it is a bad idea... Heck now a days folks depend on a censor to tell them it is safe to get out of a car then using there eye balls and looking in a mirror or over there shoulder... Give me a 80's or 90's car that dose not need a computer to run... You know when you still could fix a car your self if something broke/wore out...
