I like doing Menards loads. O have been to Menards DC in South Dakota , Holidayburg OH, and Jeffersonville OH. They are slowly moving east with a store in Morgantown WV. One thing I do with most store deliveries is look at Google earth and look at the store layout for truck entrance. No two stores are just alike.

Hey Randy!! Yes, Kevin enjoyed his Menards deliveries, though that Live Unload was unexpected and caused us some stress with our 70-hour clock nearing its end. And you are right! Kevin always checks satellite pictures during his trip planning. But sometimes they still catch you off guard...like all those obstacles they put at the closest entrance at this Menards. Live and learn. And hopefully, people who watch the videos will be better prepared. :-)))

Doesn’t Crete have PC mode. If so, after you deliver you should be able to PC MTY MOVE to a truck stop. I work for CFI and we are allowed 1 hour or 50 miles each day to PC move. You have to be MTY Or Bobtail to use it. Sometimes after a delivery I have to drive up to 30 miles to find the nearest truck stop and PC Mode saves my drive time. Some companies don’t allow this and I will not work for them.

What’s CPM? What’s the difference between practical miles vs zip to zip?
@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking Жыл бұрын
Hey there! CPM is cents per mile. It’s how most truckers get paid. They get a certain pay rate per mile they drive. Then it’s important to drive a lot of miles to make money. Some companies advertise high cpm but drivers don’t get a lot of miles. It’s always a multiplication of cpm x miles driven. If your company pays zip to zip you only get paid between zip codes of the shipper and the receiver. That can cost the driver 3-10% of the miles he actually drove. So 3-10% of the mikes he drive he didn’t earn any money. Practical miles pay the driver the actual route mileage. If driver goes off route for some reason he won’t make more miles unless the company agrees with the necessity of that route change. Its much better pay! Odometer miles pays the actual miles driven. Few companies do that. Hope that explains it. 😃

@joshuaschreibman8961 Жыл бұрын
@@TheJoyofTrucking so you only get paid when you drive? You don’t get paid even if you’re on duty for live unload or load? What if you’re pulling an empty from one destination to get your next load at the next?
@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking Жыл бұрын
@@joshuaschreibman8961 Every company does things a little differently. At Werner at Crete Kevin was paid the same cpm whether towing an empty or full trailer. At some companies they pay less for empty. Some companies pay you to wait on loads and some don’t. There are many little ways of getting paid additional money and every company does it differently. Some have bonuses, paid vacation, layover pay, retention pay, short run (shag) pay, breakdown pay, going into NYC pay. As you see it’s very convoluted. Some even pay hourly. That’s why it’s hard to compare companies. 🤦‍♀️

So I'm in a cozy motel room til further notice. haha.. at least I'm making a little $ for breakdown. DEF system issue. Enjoy the rolling wheels. Sooooo, if u are on track for 130,000 and you done 132,000 with Werner I guess it doesn't matter if you get HUB pay or actual distance miles. You basically get the same mileage. I know you were getting less CPM with Werner vs Crete, that's a different issue.
@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! In this video Kevin is talking about the miles on the odometer. So if he were to end up with the same number of miles driven he would end up with more miles paid because of the practical miles pay rather than zip to zip code. At Werner he wasn't paid for about 10% of miles driven. That will make a big difference. Stay tuned...

Congratulations! 🎉 That’s a tough question! Most likely the first year is going to be a steep learning curve and the pay won’t be great no matter where you start. We chose Werner because they allowed passenger on board as soon as Kevin got his truck assignment. And they paid a bit better than a number of other companies that hired new drivers. But that might have changed by now, so be sure to ask around. Also depends where you live and who will hire you in that area. Despite a number of problems at Werner, we still think it’s a good company to start with because they have a lot of training and even simulator training, which came in very handy. After eight months you can come to Crete and make better money with less stress. 😄Best of luck! Let us know what you decide.

@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Talk to your asset manager. Kevin’s AM actually told his drivers to turn down loads if they’re not productive. He wants his team to do well (a reflection on him too). So if it’s not an effective load (like too much time before you can pick up or wait time before delivery) he wants his drivers to mark it ‘unproductive’ and ask for another. Kevin has done it numerous times. No problem. They usually get him something more productive very quickly. Obviously there is a line, can’t be a premadonna. But…as I said, talk to your AM for guidelines. You’re not getting brownie points for never turning down a load and might be doing yourself and the AM a favor when you identify unproductive pre-assigned loads. Hope that helps you!!

@@TheJoyofTrucking Thanks! See you guys are seeing more and more of the country. Know more than a few guys that have hung it up, many more I'm seeing on KZbin. From what I've noticed it's the hooded trucks that get bad fuel mileage. I had a pretty decent Freightliner Columbia which got a respectable 6.9-7.2 but this 2019 Kenworth I bought gets 7.2 on a bad day. It's a rocket ship! So modern. All that said freight rates are about where they should be ATM but fuel is still very high. The newer trucks offset that a little DEF is also crazy high. Another issue is foreign drivers, they have been flooding the spot market and reaking havoc. This should correct itself also. 3k a week is great! When you guys get the experience.. buy a truck. Once you do you'll have the freedom to slam 3k mi a week or take it easy and pull 1800-2k a week making more than you ever did as a comp driver. If you specialize even more so. Are there more responsibilities? You bet.. But the absolute freedom is there. With a monetized channel..Look out!

Oh man…sorry to hear that! We don’t understand why he was kept on different accounts for a week or two. Did he speak up after that initial snafu of immediately putting him on the Walmart dedicated? We met a driver at the Indianapolis terminal that had the same story and was very frustrated. Actually wondered if it was him. We tried to help him by giving him ideas on how to talk with his AM. But he was frustrated and I don’t know if he took in what we were suggesting. Please tell your friend we are very sorry it didn’t work out for him. We wish him ALL the best in his next chapter and hope he finds a satisfying and rewarding job.

@@412hwc 🤔🤔🤔Hmmmm…could have been him. I thought he was from the Middle East, maybe Egyptian. Had a pretty heavy accent. Had a lot of driving experience. Well, as I said…we are very sorry it didn’t work for him. Don’t understand how it can work out so differently for different drivers. Guess the universe has something else in mind for him. Gotta trust that everything always has a reason…moving us to something even better. Whatever that may be. 😃🙏

....Thank you for the quick reply....naturally we can stay with the you . I was very happy to get....post from America. For several years (6 years approx.) I have been captivated by a passion ...American trucks. It started with the ATS (American Truck Simulator...there I am now in 12 states on the road )...In October 2019, my girlfriend and I were allowed to experience 6 states ,for me the first time . With a large motorhome from Las Vegas...via Utha...to New Mexico...Colorado...Arizona...California and back to Las Vegas. We have met only dear, nice people (incredibly helpful) and I / we stayed overnight on truck stops 3x...and much more...I never forgetmehr...Am myself once in Germany truck driven...but Cabover in Europe I find boring I've been driving with you for some time now....just great you always explain it great the view of the hood with the typical two mirrors (you will never find here in Europe) I wish you always a good trip ...please do so...I like to ride with you...many greetings from a German fan.
