The Australian Government has put it's sooty hand up to host the 2026 UN climate conference (COP31) and those of you who remember its long history of undermining COP summits will appreciate the irony. The host of COP31 is yet to be announced; so I thought this would be a good time for Australia to make an honest COP31 ad about its bid. I've also been wanting to feature Pasifika nations in an HGA to acknowledge their staunch climate leadership. They had it right decades ago. So it galls me that Australia thinks it can stand next to our Pasifika neighbours as if it hasn't undermined and fought them every step of the way.

We've recently approved more oil and gas drilling which has very conveniently netted out prime minister some £1.5bn It's kinda worse that our PM is Indian given climate change is far far worse for India than it is for the UK. Equally, one thing I have to say that is genuinely admirable about my parent's country is that pre Russia's invasion, Pakistan was a lot further ahead on going to net zero and were approaching it fast with the deadline being 2030 Then, gas prices went up drastically, which meant that demand for solar panels rose drastically across the world. That then meant that Pakistan couldn't really afford those same solar projects because the price of solar started to shoot up, and gas equally shot up especially when Pakistan sent weapons to Ukraine. But hey, at least the "impoverished" countries are way ahead of the rest of us on this matter, or at least were until everything shot up in price My dad said that the price per kWh is about 10p/kWh or so which is a ridiculous amount to pay in a country where the average wage is just $250/month. That's like us paying £8/kWh here or say $12/kWh (US) It's an eye watering amount to pay for energy. It's no surprise then that Pakistan has temporarily fired up coal plants instead of gas and has had to reduce the amount of solar farms, purely because the price shot up

I was speaking with a scientist the other day who said that of all CO2 emissions only 1% comes from human activity, and of that Australia only contributes 1%. That says that 1/10,000th of global CO2 emissions are from Australia. Can someone explain why all the guilt and shame? CSIRO reports that there are more leaves on desert plants in Australia’s interior as a result. In the absence of humans wouldn’t there still be weather events and a changing climate?
